Bug#818547: RFH: vpnc -- Cisco-compatible VPN client

Control: retitle 818547 RFA: vpnc -- Cisco-compatible VPN client

I request vpnc to be adopted. I no longer have access to a VPN server
where I could test the binary built by this package, and while not much
is happening upstream and it is very low maintenance, I don't feel
comfortable to rely on users to ensure even basic functionality.

Hello Authentication tools packaging team,

I found yubikey-manager-qt to be an easy-to-use alternative to
yubikey-manager and would like to (team-)maintain it in Debian. Could
you add me to the salsa group so I can upload the repo (I've just
clicked on "Request Access") and are there any particulars I should be
aware of?

with regard to Jonas' question, the POD says unter "COMMAND METHODS":

Net::SFTP supports all of the commands listed in the SFTP version 3
protocol specification. Each command is available for execution as a
separate method, with a few exceptions: SSH_FXP_INIT,
SSH_FXP_VERSION, and SSH_FXP_READDIR.

Jonathan, have you looked at Net::SFTP::Foreign, which is already
packaged in Debian, and can you comment why that's not an option for
you? It has a compatibility module for Net::SFTP and it leaves all the
cryptographic and more generally security related tasks to the system's
ssh command. There's a discussion of Net::SFTP::Foreign Vs. Net::SFTP
Vs. Net::SSH2::SFTP in the POD.

Description : VPN client for educational networks

eduVPN enables students, employees and researchers to connect securely and
encrypted to the Internet from any standard device. eduVPN integrates with
the institutional network so that internal ICT services can be made available
in a secure manner.

eduVPN specifically allows one to choose a VPN server in a different country,
in order to secure network access from public networks while travelling,
without the need to route traffic around the globe to one's home institution.

eduvpn-client is a GUI application and API client that taps into your
home institution's AAI, retrieves a list of available countries / eduVPN
servers and their profiles, and adds an openvpn-based connection to
NetworkManager that includes all the necessary certificates and tokens.

The eduVPN homepage is at https://www.eduvpn.org/ and there's an
upstream packaging repo at https://github.com/eduvpn-debian/python-eduvpn-client

While suitable openvpn configuration files for one's own institution /
NREN can be downloaded through the web, the "international server"
feature is only available through use of the API ie this client.

nature of the data you're working with, this module may be easier to work
with.

In particular, when you're doing a lot of bit twiddling, this module's
diagnostic output may make it easier to diagnose failures. A typical failure
diagnostic will look like this:

The two pieces of binary data are not the same length (got 2, expected 3).

So, why don't you have a look at the package and its bugs and suggested
patches (also in Ubuntu!), work in collab-maint git and coordinate with
Octavio where necessary?

I intend to set up a collab-maint repo and do a qa upload after looking
into the more obvious stuff in the BTS, but I wouldn't mind at all if
someone joins the effort or even beats me to it.

Bug#818547: RFH: vpnc -- Cisco-compatible VPN client

2016-03-19 Thread Florian Schlichting
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request assistance with maintaining the vpnc package. I'm no longer
actively using it, and I never got around to learn enough about ipsec
to really understand what's going on and (sometimes) going wrong. Hence
I feel I'm unable to properly debug and support some kinds of issues,
and my hope is that this RFH is read as an encouragement to pick things
up and move them forward as you see fit (sources are in collab-maint
git, no need to coordinate with me beforehand).

The package is in an ok shape generally without any pressing issues;
upstream is nice, but development has slowed to a crawl and support for
new hardware (Norton, Fortigate?) may be patchy in places. Still, it
continues to be useful for many people. Perhaps vpnc needs a
reenvigorated upstream more than a new packager?

The package description is:
vpnc is a VPN client compatible with cisco3000 VPN Concentrator (also
known as Cisco's EasyVPN equipment). vpnc runs entirely in userspace
and does not require kernel modules except for the tun driver to
 communicate with the network layer.
 .
It supports most of the features needed to establish connection to the
VPN concentrator: MD5 and SHA1 hashes, 3DES and AES ciphers, PFS and
 various IKE DH group settings.

Hashes tied to Tie::Hash::Expire behave like normal hashes in all respects
except that when a key is added or the value associated with a key is

No, the reason it was removed is that it was decided to not include QT3
in the wheezy (current stable) release, and the QT4 version of xxdiff
was not ready then. If the screenshots were part of the old package, the
copyright stanza was never noticed, I think.

But in order to become part of Debian again now, xxdiff needs to go through
the same checks as any completely new package, and as part of the
copyright vetting the above notice raised a red flag...

I'm very glad to hear that!

Apart from those copyright changes, I think fixing compilation with
bison3 would be the most useful to have in a release. See
http://sourceforge.net/p/xxdiff/bugs/229/ for the issue and my
bison3.patch in the last comment.

If you have time to spare, you could have a look through all the patches
the Debian package accumulated over time; but some of those may be
Debian-specific and forwarding them properly is on my TODO list, so no
obligation to do anything now:

Bug#685572: xxdiff doc screenshots licensing

2014-07-18 Thread Florian Schlichting
Hi Martin Blais,

I'm trying to make a new Debian package for xxdiff, after the old one
was removed a few years ago along with the obsolete QT libraries.
Unfortunately, my package was not acceptable because it contained the
HTML documentation in doc/, including the screenshots, with the same
text as on your website:

All images and material are Copyright © 2001 Martin Blais, Montreal,
Canada. All Rights Reserved. Images may not be used without written
permission. If you would like to license or use an image, please
contact bl...@furius.ca

Could you please clarify if that statement stands, even though the
images are distributed as part of the xxdiff tarball, which is licensed
under the GPL? If so, the screenshot docs are undistributeable and will
have to be removed from the Debian package. Otherwise, it would be good
if the copyright statement can be removed from the HTML distributed in
the tarball (and perhaps include the bison3 fix while at it?)

Thank you for your work on xxdiff, my favorite graphical diff tool!
Florian

libspreadsheet-parseexcel-perl has been waiting for something like this
to happen for a little over three years now, so I think it's safe to say
it's not going to happen, and it's a lot easier to have an alternative
implementation of the MD5 algorithm packaged, which is clearly marked as
inferior and not used unless specifically requested, but available for
use by libspreadsheet-parseexcel-perl.

If you want to look at the details of this use of "internal state", it
can be found here:
http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=pkg-perl/packages/libspreadsheet-parseexcel-perl.git;a=blob;f=lib/Spreadsheet/ParseExcel.pm;h=7285783835427b592bb899578d93469f5afd8f65;hb=a828ce1458524757e2bbf74a18647d382cd8ea5a#l247

If that link doesn't work, look at lib/Spreadsheet/ParseExcel.pm and
search for "Digest::Perl::MD5"; there's a sub "md5state" in a section
marked "Decryption routines, based on sources of gnumeric (ms-biff.c
ms-excel-read.c)", which is used from both MakeKey() and
VerifyPassword(). I have to admit I don't understand what exactly it's
doing there and whether or how Digest::MD5 in core could be used or
patched to be useable instead; but given how easy and fast it is to just
package Digest::Perl::MD5, and that I cannot see how this is going to
cause any harm (apart from burdening the Debian archive with yet another
package - but maybe I'm overlooking something?), I thought it safe to
resolve the Spreadsheet::Parseexcel stalemate by uploading
libdigest-perl-md5-perl.

Thanks a lot for your detailed email. I think the short-license page

module includes in its CPAN distribution a 2010 copy of the file
quickbrown.txt, very similar to the one you make available at
http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~mgk25/ucs/examples/quickbrown.txt. This file
contains your name at the top and a mention that the copyright for the
Thai example is owned by the Computer Association of Thailand, but I was
unable to find any license information either in that file or its
vicinity.

Copyright/license information is needed in order for Debian (and others)
to be able to legally distribute your text, which is used as input for a
Unit test and will thus become part of a source code package. As-is, I
cannot be sure that you agree to this kind of use, and which conditions
(e.g. attribution) might apply. A website recently set up to make
choosing a license easier is http://choosealicense.com/

Could you please give us (e.g. by simply replying to this email, but
adding a note to your website would surely be useful to others) the
license information under which you're making quickbrown.txt available?

Hoping to hear from you,
Florian

PerlIO::utf8_strict provides a fast and correct UTF-8 PerlIO layer.
Unlike perl's default :utf8 layer it checks the input for correctness
and will croak if it finds an ill-formed UTF-8 octet sequence or
noncharacter code points not meant for interchange.

do you still have results from that work and could put them somewhere I
can have a look, or can you sum up the insights you have gained from
your work? I haven't actually read any upstream code yet, but I saw a
few patches floating around on github and then there's arpwatch-ng...

So far, I reconstructed the Debian arpwatch packaging history from
snapshots.debian.org, in the hope that that will make it easier to go
back to unapplied, single-issue patches and convert the packaging to 3.0

This module, as of 1.0.0, also supports Oasis XML catalogs.

libxml-catalog-perl used to be part of Debian until 2009, when it was
removed because it hadn't seen upstream releases in almost a decade, and
the draft spec it implemented had long been superseded (#519943). As of
version 1.0.0, it now supports the adopted "Oasis XML catalogs" spec,
and since it is a new dependency of libxml-treebuilder-perl, I have
decided to reintroduce it to Debian, this time under the umbrella of the
Debian Perl Team instead of the Debian XML/SGML Group, where it used to
be maintained by Ardo van Rangelrooij.

thanks a lot for digging that up! I think that the email documented at

Please note that as part of the refactoring, the dispatch priority of
Regex vs Regexp vs LocalRegex vs LocalRegexp may have changed. Priority
is now influenced by when the dispatch type is first seen in your

Bug#692410: license information for Math::Libm

2012-11-05 Thread Florian Schlichting
Hi,

While packaging your module Math::Libm for Debian, I noticed that it
doesn't seem to mention any licensing information, not even "same as
Perl" or anything like that. License information is needed in order for
us (and others) to be able to legally distribute the software. Could you
please give us (replying to this email is fine) the license that
Math::Libm is distributed under?

This is more than just a Debian issue. I'm not a lawyer, but it's my
understanding that both copyright and licensing information is vital for
the continued success of open source software. Copyright is what allows
you to assert a license, and a license is what gives others the rights
to use and re-distribute your software. A great article discussing some
of this is "What is Copyleft?" by Richard Stallman:
http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/

Thanks for releasing your work to the CPAN. I apologize in advance for
the noise, as I understand that the last thing most authors want to deal
with is legal administrivia like this. I do hope, however, that you
could (in your continued generosity) help us with this request. Please
also consider adding these statements to your code/package README, since
we must distribute some evidence of copyright information if it is not
in the source package itself.

Cheers,
Florian
On behalf of the Debian Perl Team

Perl Team would like to package a Perl module, Math::Geometry::Voronoi
(http://search.cpan.org/~samtregar/Math-Geometry-Voronoi-1.3/lib/Math/Geometry/Voronoi.pm),
for Debian. The module is basically a wrapper around Derek Bradley's
improved version of your C implementation.

It seems your Voronoi code does not come with any kind of license
statement, a fact that's also noted at the above mentioned URL.
Copyright/license information is needed in order for Debian (and others)
to be able to legally distribute the software.

Could you please give us details on the following points (replying to
this email including the bug addess I've cc'd is fine):

  * years of copyright of your Voronoi code
  * copyright holders' names and email addesses (if you're not the
copyright holder yourself)
  * the license under which Voronoi can be redistributed and modified

I apologize in advance for this request, as I understand that the last

Bug#668105: ITP: libmultidimensional-perl -- Perl pragma to disable multidmensional array emulation

* URL : http://search.cpan.org/perldoc?multidimensional

  Programming Lang: Perl
Description : Perl pragma to disable multidmensional array emulation

Perl's multidimensional array emulation stems from the days before the
language had references, but these days it mostly serves to bite you
when you typo a hash slice by using the $ sigil instead of @.

This module lexically makes using multidmensional array emulation a
fatal error at compile time. To enable it, simply say

no multidimensional;

at the beginning of your script.

Bug#667987: ITA: irssi-plugin-xmpp -- XMPP plugin for irssi

2012-04-07 Thread Florian Schlichting
retitle 667987 ITA: irssi-plugin-xmpp -- XMPP plugin for irssi
owner 667987 !
thanks

I would like to maintain irssi-plugin-xmpp, but as I'm not a DD, I
welcome anyone to sponser or co-maintain the package.

I have packaged the new upstream version and will work on modernizing
the packaging tomorrow, so there should be something to upload fairly
soon.

Florian

invoked. If read_response_headers() did not see enough data to complete
the headers an empty list is returned. If read_entity_body() did not see
new entity data in its read the value -1 is returned.

Bug#660923: ITP: libnet-openssh-perl -- Perl SSH client package implemented on top of OpenSSH

  Version : 0.57
  Upstream Author : Salvador Fandiño
* URL : http://search.cpan.org/perldoc?Net::OpenSSH
* License : GPL-1+, Artistic
  Programming Lang: Perl
Description : Perl SSH client package implemented on top of OpenSSH

Net::OpenSSH is a secure shell client package implemented on top of the
OpenSSH binary client (ssh), leveraging the multiplexing feature found
in current versions of OpenSSH. That is, when a new Net::OpenSSH object
is created, ssh is run in master mode establishing a permanent
connection. Then, every time a new operation is requested, a new ssh
process is started in slave mode, reusing the master SSH
connection to send the request to the remote side. This makes
Net::OpenSSH very fast, as most of the latency of ssh is intrinsic to
the protocol.
..
If you like the API of other Perl SSH distributions like Net::SSH,
Net::SSH2 or Net::SSH::Perl, and would like to use them with
Net::OpenSSH, have a look at the libnet-openssh-compat-perl package.
