Bug#818547: RFH: vpnc -- Cisco-compatible VPN client
Control: retitle 818547 RFA: vpnc -- Cisco-compatible VPN client I request vpnc to be adopted. I no longer have access to a VPN server where I could test the binary built by this package, and while not much is happening upstream and it is very low maintenance, I don't feel comfortable to rely on users to ensure even basic functionality.
Bug#974423: packaging yubikey-manager-qt within the Authentication tools packaging team
Control: retitle 974423 'ITP: yubikey-manager-qt -- GUI for YubiKey Manager' Control: owner 974423 ! Hello Authentication tools packaging team, I found yubikey-manager-qt to be an easy-to-use alternative to yubikey-manager and would like to (team-)maintain it in Debian. Could you add me to the salsa group so I can upload the repo (I've just clicked on "Request Access") and are there any particulars I should be aware of? Florian

It provides a subset > of the commands listed in the SSH File Transfer Protocol IETF draft, > which can be found at > http://www.openssh.com/txt/draft-ietf-secsh-filexfer-00.txt. with regard to Jonas' question, the POD says unter "COMMAND METHODS": Net::SFTP supports all of the commands listed in the SFTP version 3 protocol specification. Each command is available for execution as a separate method, with a few exceptions: SSH_FXP_INIT, SSH_FXP_VERSION, and SSH_FXP_READDIR. Jonathan, have you looked at Net::SFTP::Foreign, which is already packaged in Debian, and can you comment why that's not an option for you? It has a compatibility module for Net::SFTP and it leaves all the cryptographic and more generally security related tasks to the system's ssh command. There's a discussion of Net::SFTP::Foreign Vs. Net::SFTP Vs. Net::SSH2::SFTP in the POD. Florian

Bug#818547: RFH: vpnc -- Cisco-compatible VPN client
Package: wnpp Severity: normal I request assistance with maintaining the vpnc package. I'm no longer actively using it, and I never got around to learn enough about ipsec to really understand what's going on and (sometimes) going wrong. Hence I feel I'm unable to properly debug and support some kinds of issues, and my hope is that this RFH is read as an encouragement to pick things up and move them forward as you see fit (sources are in collab-maint git, no need to coordinate with me beforehand). The package is in an ok shape generally without any pressing issues; upstream is nice, but development has slowed to a crawl and support for new hardware (Norton, Fortigate?) may be patchy in places. Still, it continues to be useful for many people. Perhaps vpnc needs a reenvigorated upstream more than a new packager? The package description is: vpnc is a VPN client compatible with cisco3000 VPN Concentrator (also known as Cisco's EasyVPN equipment). vpnc runs entirely in userspace and does not require kernel modules except for the tun driver to communicate with the network layer. . It supports most of the features needed to establish connection to the VPN concentrator: MD5 and SHA1 hashes, 3DES and AES ciphers, PFS and various IKE DH group settings.

No, the reason it was removed is that it was decided to not include QT3 in the wheezy (current stable) release, and the QT4 version of xxdiff was not ready then. If the screenshots were part of the old package, the copyright stanza was never noticed, I think. But in order to become part of Debian again now, xxdiff needs to go through the same checks as any completely new package, and as part of the copyright vetting the above notice raised a red flag... > Where do you find this Copyright notice? > I should change it, never realized it was a problem. basically all HTML files related to the screenshots: [fschlich@Indo] 6503 (src/xxdiff): grep -r 'All images and' doc/screenshots/allindex.html:All images and material are doc/screenshots/dirindex.html:All images and material are doc/screenshots/sortindex.html:All images and material are doc/screenshots/xxdiff-snap-about.html:All images and material are doc/screenshots/xxdiff-snap-dirs2.html:All images and material are doc/screenshots/xxdiff-snap-doc.html:All images and material are doc/screenshots/xxdiff-snap-files2.html:All images and material are doc/screenshots/xxdiff-snap-files3.html:All images and material are doc/screenshots/xxdiff-snap-merged.html:All images and material are doc/screenshots/xxdiff-snap-opt1.html:All images and material are doc/screenshots/xxdiff-snap-opt2.html:All images and material are doc/screenshots/xxdiff-snap-opt3.html:All images and material are doc/screenshots/xxdiff-snap-opt4.html:All images and material are doc/screenshots/xxdiff-snap-opt5.html:All images and material are > Could you please clarify if that statement stands, even though the > > images are distributed as part of the xxdiff tarball, which is licensed > > under the GPL? I'm very glad to hear that! Apart from those copyright changes, I think fixing compilation with bison3 would be the most useful to have in a release. See http://sourceforge.net/p/xxdiff/bugs/229/ for the issue and my bison3.patch in the last comment. If you have time to spare, you could have a look through all the patches the Debian package accumulated over time; but some of those may be Debian-specific and forwarding them properly is on my TODO list, so no obligation to do anything now: http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=collab-maint/xxdiff.git;a=tree;f=debian/patches Thanks, Florian -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-wnpp-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Hi Martin Blais, I'm trying to make a new Debian package for xxdiff, after the old one was removed a few years ago along with the obsolete QT libraries. Unfortunately, my package was not acceptable because it contained the HTML documentation in doc/, including the screenshots, with the same text as on your website: All images and material are Copyright © 2001 Martin Blais, Montreal, Canada. All Rights Reserved. Images may not be used without written permission. If you would like to license or use an image, please contact bl...@furius.ca Could you please clarify if that statement stands, even though the images are distributed as part of the xxdiff tarball, which is licensed under the GPL? If so, the screenshot docs are undistributeable and will have to be removed from the Debian package. Otherwise, it would be good if the copyright statement can be removed from the HTML distributed in the tarball (and perhaps include the bison3 fix while at it?) I know TMTOWTDI, but introducing this implementation to debian > seems like a regression, when we know that all debian systems actually > have Digest::MD5 already. libspreadsheet-parseexcel-perl has been waiting for something like this to happen for a little over three years now, so I think it's safe to say it's not going to happen, and it's a lot easier to have an alternative implementation of the MD5 algorithm packaged, which is clearly marked as inferior and not used unless specifically requested, but available for use by libspreadsheet-parseexcel-perl. If you want to look at the details of this use of "internal state", it can be found here: http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=pkg-perl/packages/libspreadsheet-parseexcel-perl.git;a=blob;f=lib/Spreadsheet/ParseExcel.pm;h=7285783835427b592bb899578d93469f5afd8f65;hb=a828ce1458524757e2bbf74a18647d382cd8ea5a#l247 If that link doesn't work, look at lib/Spreadsheet/ParseExcel.pm and search for "Digest::Perl::MD5"; there's a sub "md5state" in a section marked "Decryption routines, based on sources of gnumeric (ms-biff.c ms-excel-read.c)", which is used from both MakeKey() and VerifyPassword(). I have to admit I don't understand what exactly it's doing there and whether or how Digest::MD5 in core could be used or patched to be useable instead; but given how easy and fast it is to just package Digest::Perl::MD5, and that I cannot see how this is going to cause any harm (apart from burdening the Debian archive with yet another package - but maybe I'm overlooking something?), I thought it safe to resolve the Spreadsheet::Parseexcel stalemate by uploading libdigest-perl-md5-perl. Bug#740281: quickbrown.txt License question
Dear Markus Kuhn, I'm in the process of packaging PerlIO::utf8_strict for Debian. The module includes in its CPAN distribution a 2010 copy of the file quickbrown.txt, very similar to the one you make available at http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~mgk25/ucs/examples/quickbrown.txt. This file contains your name at the top and a mention that the copyright for the Thai example is owned by the Computer Association of Thailand, but I was unable to find any license information either in that file or its vicinity. Copyright/license information is needed in order for Debian (and others) to be able to legally distribute your text, which is used as input for a Unit test and will thus become part of a source code package. As-is, I cannot be sure that you agree to this kind of use, and which conditions (e.g. attribution) might apply. A website recently set up to make choosing a license easier is http://choosealicense.com/ Could you please give us (e.g. by simply replying to this email, but adding a note to your website would surely be useful to others) the license information under which you're making quickbrown.txt available?
