If I had to compare it I'd say it's more like Atom, yes. I have never
heard of XCode, so I can't really say anything about it, but GNOME
Builder is pretty much targeted at people developing for GNOME. Not that
it's not useful elsewhere, but it really focuses on it, having
"official" support only for the languages they use the most with GNOME
(like C/C++, Python or Rust). And it behaves a lot more like an IDE with
a lot of extra features.

That's a good point. In fact, in their original description for it,
they mention that it _can_ become a full featured IDE if the user wants
it to. But it's designed with minimalism in mind, and has basic
features. It doesn't have all the features GNOME Builder has but, in
their words, one can "install extensions to turn Code into a full-blown
IDE".

I don't know about the authors; as far as I'm concerned, I've coded
with emacs for 20+ years so I'm still trying to decide which way to go.
I guess it depends on project/language. But I do like Code's
minimalistic approach.

Elementary Code earlier called Scratch, is an IDE
designed with simplicity in mind. It offers essential functionalities
such as git support, multi-panel and miniview support and extensions
for integration with the Terminal and web visualization.

It is written from scratch, with support for plugins. Its purpose is
to be lightweight and extensible, with plenty of customization
options. It support syntax highlighting for a wide range of
programming languages.

It is a minimalist, extensible GTK-based IDE that is not dependent
on GNOME. It follows the Elementary Human Interface Guidelines.

As with other elementary OS-related packages, I'll need a sponsor
(at least for the time being).

Bug#989489: ITP: elementary-terminal -- Modern terminal emulator from elementary project

Description : Modern terminal emulator from elementary project

Originally named Pantheon Terminal, this is the default terminal emulator
in elementary OS. It is designed to be set up with sane defaults and
requires minimal configuration, following elementary's Human Interface
Guidelines.

This is yet another terminal emulator, which provides good funcionality
with good integration into the current GTK theme and minimal
requirement for configuration. It offers tab support and integration
with the desktop.

This package is part of an effort (on my part) to package some
applications from elementary OS for Debian.

Bug#963930: Abandoned ITA?

2020-10-27 Thread Francisco M Neto
Greetings,

I've been following this ITA for sometime, mostly because earlier this
year I was using starfighter as a case study for debian packaging.

I noticed that it has not seen activity in a while, and the Freeze is
getting closer. So I'd like to check if this package is still being
worked on.

I'd like to take over adoption for package starfighter. I'm going to
wait another 3 days for a reply, and after that I'll take ownership if
no reply is given.

Cheers

Bug#970059: RFP: librust-gstreamer-player -- gstreamer's Rust bindings for the Player crate

  Version : 0.16.3
  Upstream Author : Sebastian Dröge

  Programming Lang: Rust
Description : gstreamer's Rust bindings for the Player crate

GStreamer (Player library) bindings for Rust. Documentation can be found here.

These bindings are providing a safe API that can be used to interface with
GStreamer, e.g. for writing GStreamer-based applications and GStreamer plugins.

The bindings are mostly autogenerated with gir based on the GObject-
Introspection API metadata provided by the GStreamer project.

It is part of the gstreamer "suite", and provides a programming interface
for applications using gstreamer to play media. In particular, it is a
dependency for applications like gnome-podcasts, which I intend to package once
this is made available.

Ideally, it should be maintained by the Debian Rust team (had a brief
conversation about it in IRC).

Investigating the build dependencies for this package, it seems to require rust-
gstreamer-player, which is not yet packaged.

Bug#969189: ITP: hydrapaper -- Utility that sets background independently for each monitor

2020-08-28 Thread Francisco M Neto
Package: wnpp

* Package name: hydrapaper
  Version : 1.4.2
  Upstream Author : Gabriele Musco
* URL : https://gitlab.com/gabmus/HydraPaper
* License : GPLv3
  Programming Lang: Python
Description : Utility that sets background independently for each monitor

HydraPaper is a GTK-based utility that sets background images for multiple
monitor desktops independently. It works by merging multiple wallpaper images
into one and setting the result as wallpaper with the "Spanned" option. It is
based on the GNOME 3 Desktop but officially supports MATE and Budgie as well,
and should work on any GNOME-based desktop like Pantheon.

This package offers the functionality of setting different wallpapers on
different monitors, something that GNOME doesn't offer, and similar tools (e.g.
variety) don't support either. It is not a dependency on any other packages.

I plan to maintain it on my own. It is a reasonably small package, it is
fairly simple and its build system is straightforward.
