Hello

Actually lubos (#nel on freenode) packaged/updated these packages,
but he is not a Debian Maintainer yet is interested in updating and
maintaing these packages, including mtp-target. If there's anyone
with a bit of free capacity, please contact me or lubos to see how
to get these packages updated/into Debian.

I got a recent version of his nel/snowballs packages here:

Here's his last mail to me:

I can do that, I just didn't because there was an ITP and I didn't
want to

do doublework. But since I didn't recieve any reply to my ping, I guess
I'll just pick it to me and be glad that you offer sponsorship.

I have a use for it and hoped to find a package, or failing that I
might try to put one together myself.

Well if you want you can do the vcg stuff and I do the meshlab, or even
better we both co-maintain the both?

How far has anyone got ? Any information or pointers would be
valuable.

I think it'll build and work fine, I already maintain a few QT based
packages,

they often are very simple and flawless.

I found this:
  http://gnu.ethz.ch/debian/meshlab/
which is shall we say a surprising way of distributing source for
Debian and is clearly very much a work in progress.

That really was just a quick try, I'll continue working on that though
(they

got some update just right now already).

If someone wants to make a package suitable for me to sponsor that
would be fine by me too.

I'll continue when I have something working, tested and ready for
Debian.

Regards,
Ian.

Thank you and regards,
Guerkan

Oh that sounds good, so what about we co-maintain the package?

You're welcome to take over the packaging of Meshlab, if you wish.

MeshLab doesn't look too hard, but having its build-depends, as in the

No. I just looked it up, and it looks interesting. Unfortunately, it
seems to tend on the console-rpg style play, which I have grown to
dislike. I managed to play through Golden Sun, but Golden Sun 2 got
about 10 minutes of playtime before I threw it out in disgust. I
wrote POWDER to get away from that sort of play. No plot, all crawl!
:>

i've created a debian package (also suitable for ubuntu) of it at
 http://gnu.ethz.ch/debian/powder/

Excellent, thank you.

the license of the software doesn't allow putting it into debian and ubuntu
officially (at least not main, nor contrib. non-free might work but has several
drawbacks). do you think you might change the license to something like
gnu gpl, artistic license, bsd license or make it public domain sometimes?

That is a problem with debian. I will *not* change my license.
Artistic/BSD/PD are out as I do not want a third party putting POWDER
on a ROM and selling it. GPL is out because it effectively prohibits
even myself from putting it on a ROM. (Not to mention the GBA version
becomes illegal)

POWDER is, in the Debian sense, not free and will remain that way for
the foreseeable future. I see this as a problem with Debian, not with
POWDER :>

Would you mind putting your fonts into the Public Domain with a sentence

It would be best to put that on your homepages:

Hi Maintainer,

rejected, includes non-free components. Like RFX.spec.

Additionally your debian/copyright file is incomplete and misses
(C)holders/license data. You have to include all such differences.
Like all of libOSC/*, some of the icons.

And next, it includes a mixture of GPL/LGPL v2/v2.1 and v3.
Now you need to check if all v2/v2.1 ones are "or any later". If not it
is undistributable.

2008-04-29 Thread Gürkan Sengün

I still don't understand the necessity to upload Lives in Debian.

Without mjpegtools you can't encode in mpeg2. Same for transcode or
mencoder who doesn't exist in Debian even if you add a note saying
"Lives doesn't work, you need to add this package from this site"

Anyone can add it from wherever he wants, or take a Debian package
and rebuild it according their needs. This is a lot easier when you can
just say apt-get source PACKAGE, without having to figure where else it
is (if it's not in an official debian repository).

Besides, someone can just use lives effects, then reencode the movie
into whatever format he wants at the end of all the editing.

> the

first user will certainly don't understand why Lives doesn't work
because this use will certainly never read the README.Debian.

There's no README.Debian.

Hi,
all of the LiVES software is licensed under the GPL v3 or later. The only
exception is weed.h, weed.c, weed-utils.c which will become a library
under the LGPL v3 or later. If you find any source files which are
incorrectly licensed, please let me know and I will correct this.

RFX.spec is a documentation file which documents a standard. I am happy to
change the license for this to whatever you recommend (what does debian
recommend for standards ?).

I will take a look at the debian/copyright file and update it as necessary.

Bug#480096: New NTL package available

2008-05-25 Thread Gürkan Sengün

Hello Tim

I've put a new version of my NTL package at
<http://web.mit.edu/sage/apt4/pool/main/n/ntl/ntl_5.4.2-0sagep4.dsc>.

Very nice, thanks!

This new version contains a patch that I've also submitted upstream to
add versioning to the shared library. It now has no problematic lintian
warnings and should be fully Debian policy compliant.

Perfect.

I'd like to get NTL and the SAGE packages that depend on it into Lenny
if possible, so I'd appreciate your reviewing and uploading this package
soon. If you won't have time to do this in the next week or so, let me
know and I'll upload it myself; I'd be happy to hand off maintainance to
you later when you have time. Thanks,

I also would like to have NTL in Debian because of one or two other programs.
Please go ahead and upload it (I don't have upload permissions).

Your package looks ok, but you need to change the changelog into just:
ntl (5.4.2-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * Initial release. (Closes: #480096)

I don't mind being co-maintainer, just add (right after Maintainer:) to

You should also change Priority: extra into optional

Cosmetics:

The rest is fine, thank you!

Extensive options let you control what exactly it does. It has good
support
for transparency and colormap manipulation, simple image
transformations
(cropping, flipping), and creating, deconstructing, and editing GIF
animations,

which it can also optimize for space.

the following restrictions.

   1. Unisys Corp. holds a patent on the Lempel-Ziv-Welch compression
algorithm used by GIF images. When this first became an issue several
years

ago, Unisys stated that programs available at no cost to the user, like
Gifsicle, could use LZW compression in the context of GIF images
without

obtaining a license. If you plan to distribute GIF writing code in a
shareware or commercial product, you will need to worry about
obtaining a

the

Unisys patent, so GIF reading code is probably all right.)

part, in a product whose source code will not be made available to the

Hello Javier

This game so rocks, i played it long before it was ITP'd, and still
it's not in Debian. Unbelievable? Disappointing? I don't know what it
is...

Are you still working on it? Would you mind me finishing the package
and maintaining it in Debian? I don't mind co-maintainers...

Man, I have an ITP I haven't touched in months, but I am coming back to
health, so yes, I would like to finish the package myself, but yes, I would
also love to have you as a co-maintainer.

Is that good? I am sorry I haven't been able to get it in post-Etch, but
working with you would definitely be good. So let's make it work.

Good to hear, get well soon. What's your hiscore?

I have the latest upload at
http://sid.ethz.ch/debian/spout/

The reject reasons are in the bug number and should be easy to fix.

Bug#424702: Fwd: Re: Beteckna Font

2007-11-07 Thread Gürkan Sengün

 Original Message
Subject: Re: Beteckna Font
Date: Wed, 07 Nov 2007 14:51:02 +0100
From: Johan Mattsson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
To: Gürkan Sengün <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
References: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Hi Gürkan

I am happy to see that you found the font and might be able to do
something good of it. Feel free to do necessary changes and do not
be hesitate to change glyphs that can be improved, many could be
drawn better then I did. Fontforge can be quite annoying to draw
with, you will save yourself some trouble by importing and exporting
glyphs to svg files and edit them with inkscape instead, Non the
less as you mentioned kearning has to be done with fontforge.

Since you already have the skill and knowledge to maintain packages,
can you put the next version on your page? I can put up a link to
your directory listing where the files can be downloaded.

Some things with this package is quite awkward (I accept all the
blame). It would be nice if you cold add a license file and drop the
html document before releasing it and probably several other
technical changes that you know of, I am completely unaware of them.

The condensed version might need more work, I think the stem width
is a little to thin and the innerspace of all glypths should be a
little less on a condensed version. I have no opinions on the exact
proportions, some experimenting might be necessary, not to mention
the huge work to actually edit each glyph. The angle of the oblique
variant as well as the with of the condensed one looks very good to me.

As time permits I would be glad to help and assist you with any
issues that come up. We can collaborate on a cvs/svn repository if
you like to. It is not trivial thou because when changing the shape
of a glyph all other steps such as kearning and hinting and might be
affected, this means that a strict work procedure must be followed
when creating a new version. I think you can overcome this obstacle.

Good work!

Johan Mattsson

* Package name: unmo3

  Upstream Authors: Laurent Clévy
* URL : http://lclevy.free.fr/mo3
* License : GNU GPL v2
  Description : Uncompress MO3 modules
The MO3 format means "MOdule with MP3", because the main initial idea was to
reduce the size of a module (in .mod, IT, XM) by compressing the samples using
MPEG audio layer 3. The samples can be compressed using OGG, MP3, and 2 kind of
specific lossless algorithms.

Bug#451128: License for unmo3

2007-11-13 Thread Gürkan Sengün

Bonjour Laurent

I wanted to package unmo3 for Linux (Debian and Ubuntu), but then I
have

read this README.txt:

This code is under GPLv2 license. Not for any commercial usage.

But if it's GNU GPL it allows commercial usage (if that ever is
possible, I have

no idea how, but selling it sure is permitted by GNU GPL):

http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#GPLCommercially

Do you think we can remove it and allow for distribution, even
commercial

(if someone ever manages to make money with it) or do you not want to
release it with the real, normal GNU GPL?

Regards,
Guerkan

PS: Actually it's already packaged, but needs to wait for your ok:

Bug#436492: fixes needed after the rejection

2007-11-21 Thread Gürkan Sengün

rejected, you missed to mention files with different licenses. Like
doc/KernelCompile. Or osprey/be/cg/orc_[ict|intel]/*. There are more,
its your job to list them all.

Also - the upstream tarball includes *a ton* of libraries. You want to
look at each if it is not already in Debian. If it is - use the
packaged

version, not the one included in the source. We (including security
team) can't support it if a random lib is included in tons of packages,
so this is usually strongly discouraged.

Bug#299324: emacs.app_9.0~pre3b-1_i386.changes REJECTED

2007-11-25 Thread Gürkan Sengün

Date: Thu, 23 Nov 2006 18:36:06 +

Hi Maintainer,

this is still a massive code duplication with emacs, which is not good.
As we talked about this on IRC and you mentioned it will be better with
next emacs version, and this most likely wont get into etch anyway, it
is rejected for now.

Hi Maintainer,

rejected, the tarball seems to miss the source for manual/manual.dvi.

rejected, the tarball seems to miss the source for
manual/manual.dvi.

The upstream tarball does not have it either. They have it stored in a
CWEB file but extracting it from there is nontrivial and, frankly,
isn't worth the effort since the source is not going to change anymore
(it hasn't changed for more than 7 years now). Please take it as it
is.

2007-11-25 Thread Gürkan Sengün
Only in non-free. If you want it in main or contrib then the source
has to be

included. DFSG #2

Someone else will have to do that then, I don't have time to dig
through CWEB sources. I think you're being too picky about
this.

The DFSG defines what is acceptable for main, and that simply says
"Source". There is no way to not follow this.

Incidentally, I suppose that the source itself will then also have to
be replaced with the CWEB sources, right?

Ay
