  Version : 0.1.6
  Upstream Author : Avtech Scientific http:avtechscientific.com
* URL : http://asl.org.il/
* License : AGPL-3
  Programming Lang: C++
  Description : multiphysics simulation software

Long-Description:
 The Advanced Simulation Library (ASL) is a free and open source multiphysics
 simulation software package.
 .
 Its computational engine is based, among others, on the Lattice Boltzmann
 Methods and is written in OpenCL which enable extraordinarily efficient
 deployment on a variety of massively parallel architectures, ranging from
 inexpensive FPGAs, DSPs and GPUs up to heterogeneous clusters and
 supercomputers. The engine is hidden entirely behind C++ classes, so that no
 OpenCL knowledge is required from application programmers.
 .
 ASL can be utilized to model various coupled physical and chemical phenomena
 and employed in a multitude of fields: computational fluid dynamics, virtual
 sensing, industrial process data validation and reconciliation, image-guided
 surgery, computer-aided engineering, high-performance scientific computing,
 etc...

This package will be co-maintained by the Debian Science Team.

Bug#769767: ITP: imageio -- Library for reading and writing a wide range of image formats

2014-11-16 Thread Ghislain Antony Vaillant
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Ghislain Antony Vaillant ghisv...@gmail.com

* Package name: imageio
  Version : 1.0.0
  Upstream Author : Almar Klein
* URL : http://imageio.github.io/
* License : BSD
  Programming Lang: Python
  Description : Library for reading and writing a wide range of image
formats

Long description taken from the upstream website:
Imageio is a Python library that provides an easy interface to read and write a
wide range of image data, including animated images, volumetric data, and
scientific formats. It is cross-platform, runs on Python 2.x and 3.x, and is
easy to install.

The rationales behind the development of this library are explained in [1]. The
upstream author considers the code base mature after 2 years of development and
recently released it as a 1.0.

I believe this package to be a good fit for the numerical-computation blend
from the Debian-science project, and should be maintained by the Debian science
team.

Bug#768936: ITP: nufft -- Library implementing the Non-Uniform Fast Fourier Transform

Owner: Ghislain Antony Vaillant ghisv...@gmail.com

* Package name: nufft
  Version : 1.3.3
  Upstream Author : Leslie Greengard greeng...@cims.nyu.edu
* URL : http://www.cims.nyu.edu/cmcl/nufft/nufft.html
* License : BSD
  Programming Lang: FORTRAN
  Description : Library implementing the Non-Uniform Fast Fourier Transform

Implementation of the Non-Uniform Fast Fourier Transform (NUFFT) coded in
FORTRAN using a fast, procedural, algorithm.

Compared to existingly packaged solutions, like the NFFT library, the NUFFT
provides Octave (and MATLAB) compatible bindings. Because of the procedural
implementation, usage of the NUFFT is more straightforward. However, it lacks
support for high dimensionality than 3 and support for precomputation in case
a transform needs to be repeated. As a result both the NFFT and NUFFT package
may coexist as they fit different needs.

I believe this package would be a good fit for the mathematics-dev blend of
the Debian-science project, and should be maintained by the Debian science
team.

Bug#762752: ITP: pyoperators -- Operators and solvers for high-performance computing.

2014-09-24 Thread Ghislain Antony Vaillant
Package: wnpp

Owner: Ghislain Antony Vaillant ghisv...@gmail.com

* Package name: pyoperators
  Version : 0.12.13
  Upstream Author : Pierre Chanial
* URL : http://pchanial.github.io/pyoperators/
* License : CeCILL-B
  Programming Lang: Python
  Description : Operators and solvers for high-performance computing.

The PyOperators package defines operators and solvers for high-performance
computing. These operators are multi-dimensional functions with optimised
and controlled memory management. If linear, they behave like matrices with
a sparse storage footprint.

Compared to the existing linop package already available in Debian, this
package provides more flexibility and tools for finer control of the
behaviour of abstract mathematical operators. Both the linop and pyoperators
packages should happily co-exist, the former providing a straightforward
abstraction for quick prototyping, whilst the latter offers more advanced
features such as memory management, operator properties, clever composition,
etc...

I believe this package would be a good fit for the mathematics-dev blend of
the Debian-science project, and should be maintained by the Debian science
team.

  Description : Parallel FFT software library based on MPI

PFFT is a parallel FFT software library based on MPI and distributed under
GPL license. Compared to the existing MPI implementation of FFTW, PFFT
supports higher scalability, by allowing a multi-dimensional distribution of
the workload associated with large multi-dimensional FFTs.

This package will be maintained by the Debian science team, alongside
existing FFT libraries such as FFTW and NFFT. This software is also a
dependency of the MPI-enabled parallel NFFT (PNFFT) library, which I
intend to package as well.

  Description : Parallel NFFT software library based on MPI

PNFFT is a parallel NFFT software library based on MPI and distributed under

PNFFT library allows for acceleration of computation time using
