I suggest everyone who is interested to subscribe to the fetchmail mailing lists at Berlios [1] and at CCIL [2]. Don't know however if it makes it totally undistributable. Author chose GPL and it's his decision. Well, the header files are essentially compiled files (not directy executable in their current form, though), and it would seem to me that the GPL required that their source be available. Does it correctly handle Unicode encoded ID3v2 tags? Checking... No, it apparently doesn't. The TODO file says the following, which I haven't followed up on: Make ID3v2 text encoding a preference as soon as id3lib releases an unbroken version (hopefully 2.4.0) So I question the value of introducing yet another broken tool to the archive. tagtool does work in some cases, even if not in all of them. The program is valuable to me (hence my ITP), and I'm sure it will be valuable to at least a few others. I don't think a package has to be valuable to everyone before it is allowed in the archive. It seems not to handle correctly even Vorbis comments, which are UTF8 by definition. Seemed to work fine for me. How are you testing this? Definitely not mature enough, unless I've made some serious mistakes. It seems to work fine for my music collection, and I'm sure it works fine for others as well, so I see no reason not to upload it to the archive. -- gram

Bug#194705: ITP: yavipin -- daemon for creating secure tunnels
Package: wnpp Version: unavailable; reported 2003-05-24 Severity: wishlist * Package name: yavipin Version : 0.9.6 Upstream Author : Jerome Etienne jme at off.net * URL : http://yavipin.sf.net/ * License : GPL [1] Description : daemon for creating secure tunnels Yavipin is a daemon for creating a secure tunnel between two peers, which allows either to securely send packets to the other. Yavipin's main features are its network efficiency, security, and ease of use. Its packet overhead is less than IPsec default, it supports packet compression, and can establish a tunnel over a NAT. Yavipin exists completly in userspace, so there is no need to recompile your kernel. Also, since Yavipin operates at the link layer, it is able to tunnel any kind of packet. Security features include protection against replay attacks, efficient session key renewal, and encryption of data sent between the peers. [1] the author of the program has said that he would add an openssl exception to the license, since the package uses openssl, and is licensed under the gpl. -- gram pgp24AWSaw1Ij.pgp Description: PGP signature
