Bug#370080: O: gamix -- Graphical sound mixer for ALSA

2006-06-10 Thread Ian Zimmerman

 gnome-alsamixer etc. will work better.

Apples vs. oranges. gamix didn't depend on a bloated maze of desktop
libraries.

That said, of course the other reasons are valid.

Bug#288379: O: vcg -- A Visualization Tool for compiler graphs

2005-01-05 Thread Ian Zimmerman

Malcolm Everyone who wants a tool like vcg uses the non-free graphviz
Malcolm package instead.

Not true; I do, and some software does, for instance,

http://atseidl2.informatik.tu-muenchen.de/~berlea/Fxp/

Malcolm The GUI needs to be rewritten in GTK.

True, but not a reason to let it die, IMO. I'll put in on my list of
projects to explore.

Malcolm I'm happy for someone more interested in this tool to adopt it.

Would you consider sponsoring me? I'll be stuck in the NM queue for
some weeks (months?) to come.

Bug#182820: ITP: makepp -- yet another make replacement

2003-02-28 Thread Ian Zimmerman
Package: wnpp
Version: N/A; reported 2003-02-27
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: makepp
  Version : 1.18
Upstream Author : Gary Holt [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://makepp.sourceforge.net/
* License : Dual GPL/Artistic
Description : yet another make replacement

makepp is the rare case where a compromise worked well. Namely, a compromise
between the power of cons (already in Debian) and the need to keep close to
traditional makefile syntax. makepp has most of cons' power while it is
so compatible with existing makefiles that it can use many of them without
modification, perhaps in degraded mode. Like cons, makepp is written in
Perl and depends on it.

Bug#169557: RFA: xcolorsel -- display colors and names in X

2002-12-01 Thread Ian Zimmerman

itz Orphaning it.

Matej Ah, are you just looking for another maintainer (RFA), or
Matej really orphaning it (O)? I mean, are you willing to maintain
Matej it for the time being, or should the QA group take over?

Leave me as the maintainer for now.

Bug#164127: RFP: conglomerate -- Structured information authoring [...] and transformation system.

2002-10-10 Thread Ian Zimmerman

Roland What looks interesting to me, though, is mainly the XML
Roland editor. Screenshots are available at
Roland http://www.conglomerate.org/shots.html, and it looks like
Roland *the* lst element missing for at least some organisations to
Roland switch from Word/WYSIWYG editors to Docbook. In my
Roland experience, Docbook is attractive to people, but they don't
Roland want to type those SGML or XML tags by hand.

Roland The website seems rather old, but the -devel mailing-list
Roland still lives, it seems. I believe being packaged would bring
Roland this promising piece of software the audience, visibility and
Roland bug reports, in a word the momentum, it needs for its
Roland development to accelerate towards a complete 1.0 release.

Roland Please, someone? I'll be glad to test and sponsor this
Roland package if you're a new maintainer and feel interested *hint*
Roland *hint*.

I'll take a look. Yes, I'd need sponsorship.

Bug#160303: RFA: xcolorsel -- display colors and names in X

2002-09-10 Thread Ian Zimmerman
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

xcolorsel is an X utility that displays the contents of the X color list
file (/etc/X11/rgb.txt) together with tiles showing how the color looks on
your screen. You can cut the color names/definitions in various formats
(suitable for resource files or C source) so they can be pasted directly
 into source codes or resources.

I am no longer interested in maintaining this because I have written a
replacement based on the more modern gtk toolkit. Still, it might be
interesting for ultra-minimalists :)

The intent is still here, available time is another thing.

Bug#68199: saml - intent to adopt

2001-03-24 Thread Ian Zimmerman

Adrian You need a package ready when you want to do packaging in
Adrian Debian. But you can: - find a sponsor by asking for
Adrian sponsorship at debian-mentors or [1]. - present the package
Adrian to your AM without having a sponsor

Not what I meant - I meant the new requirement that somebody vouches
for me to even join NM. Since I hate begging, I do need to have a
sponsored package beforehand. Maybe here can be seen one of the side
effects of that decision.

Adrian You stated more than two months ago that you want to adopt
Adrian saml. When you say yourself that you aren't working on it and
Adrian that you won't work on it in the near future then please
Adrian retitle the bug back from ITA to O to give other people
Adrian that might be more interested in adopting this package the
Adrian chance to adopt it.

OK, I will decide what do to about this within a few days. I did that
ITA partly because I do use this package and it was in acute danger of
being removed (as you know, it was even made an example of on devel,
by yourself?)

Bug#68199: saml - intent to adopt

2001-03-21 Thread Ian Zimmerman

Colin Hi Ian, You filed an ITA for saml a couple of months ago - I
Colin just noticed that it has a few release-critical bugs against it
Colin which are fairly easy to fix (some more architecture detection
Colin in debian/rules is all that's required). Will you be able to
Colin upload soon, or would you mind if I made a QA upload in the
Colin meantime to clean these up? If you'll be able to get something
Colin sorted out before the next bug-squashing party, say, then I
Colin won't need to bother.

Well, I still have a load of other things to look after, and I am not
an official maintainer (still getting around to do all the things
necessary for NM). So I wouldn't mind at all if you fix a few RCs.
Of course I'd be grateful if there's a good changelog.
