Bug#925056: adopting this poor lil' orphan

2020-04-26 Thread Ivan Kohler
retitle 925056 ITA: ssmtp -- extremely simple MTA to get mail off the system to
a mail hub
thanks

I have this in production on a number of machines, so at the very least
worth conservatively applying things that would seem to do more good
than harm, while considering future options (migrate to something else,
or get ssmtp into shape?).

Co-maintainers welcome. Looks like there is no particular active
current "upstream" either AFAICT.

Bug#153587: Licensing

2014-05-06 Thread Ivan Kohler
I don't personally have a need for String::LRC anymore and this
WNPP should perhaps be closed entirely (String::LRC it is of niche usefulness,
typically integrating with legacy systems).

Nevertheless, for the record in case someone does wind up needing and
packaging this, I did wind up contacting the author back then about
licensing and he did provide a statement that BSD was his intention and
it was fine to redistribute under that license. (That was more than good
enough for 2002. Not sure it holds up to today's standards?)

From: WhoElse?
Subject: Re: String::LRC licensing

That sounds fine to me, my intent was along the
lines of the BSD license; thus, the generic BSD
license is fine. Would you require anything
more of me at this time?

Ralph Padron

Bug#679050: ITP: libcam-pdf-perl -- PDF manipulation library

2012-06-25 Thread Ivan Kohler
Package: wnpp

* Package name: libcam-pdf-perl
  Version : 1.58
  Upstream Author : Chris Dolan
* URL : http://http://search.cpan.org/dist/CAM-PDF/
* License : Perl
  Programming Lang: Perl
  Description : PDF manipulation library

 This package reads and writes any document that conforms to the PDF
 specification generously provided by Adobe at
 http://partners.adobe.com/public/developer/pdf/index_reference.html (link last
 checked Oct 2005).

 The file format through PDF 1.5 is well-supported, with the exception of the
 "linearized" or "optimized" output format, which this module can read but not
 write. Many specific aspects of the document model are not manipulable with
 this package (like fonts), but if the input document is correctly written, then
 this module will preserve the model integrity.

 The PDF writing feature saves as PDF 1.4-compatible. That means that we cannot
 write compressed object streams. The consequence is that reading and then
 writing a PDF 1.5+ document may enlarge the resulting file by a fair margin.

Bug#668696: RFA: libdns-zoneparse-perl -- Perl extension for parsing and manipulating DNS Zone Files.

2012-04-13 Thread Ivan Kohler
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request an adopter for the libdns-zoneparse-perl package.

The package description is:
 This module will parse a Zone File and put all the Resource Records (RRs)
 into an anonymous hash structure. At the moment, the following types of
 RRs are supported: SOA, NS, MX, A, CNAME, TXT, PTR. It could be useful for
 maintaining DNS zones, or for transferring DNS zones to other servers. If
 you want to generate an XML-friendly version of your zone files, it is
 easy to use XML::Simple with this module once you have parsed the zonefile.
 .
 DNS::ZoneParse scans the DNS zonefile - removes comments and seperates
 the file into its constituent records. It then parses each record and
 stores the records internally.

Bug#617324: ITP: libtrue-perl -- Perl module to automatically return a true value when a file is required

  Description : Perl module to automatically return a true value when a
file is required

Perl's require builtin (and its use wrapper) requires the files it loads
to return a true value. This is usually accomplished by placing a single

1;

statement at the end of included scripts or modules. It's not onerous to
add but it's a speed bump on the Perl novice's road to enlightenment. In
addition, it appears to be a non-sequitur to the uninitiated, leading
some to attempt to mitigate its appearance with a comment:

1; # keep require happy

or:

1; # Do not remove this line

or even:

1; # Must end with this, because Perl is bogus.

This module packages this "return true" behaviour so that it need not
be written explicitly. It can be used directly, but it is intended to be
invoked from the import method of a Modern::Perl-style module that enables
modern Perl features and conveniences and cleans up legacy Perl warts.

Fork is too low level, and difficult to manage. Often people forget to

Child is an Object Oriented interface to fork. It provides a clean way

  Description : Conversion between flavours of Julian Date

For date and time calculations it is convenient to represent dates by a
simple linear count of days, rather than in a particular calendar. This is
such a good idea that it has been invented several times. If there were
a single such linear count then it would be the obvious data interchange
format between calendar modules. With several versions, calendar modules
can use such sensible data formats and still have interoperability
problems. This module tackles that problem, by performing conversions
between different flavours of day count. These day count systems are
generically known as "Julian Dates", after the most venerable of them.

Among Julian Date systems there are also some non-trivial differences
of concept. There are systems that count only complete days, and
those that count fractional days also. There are some that are fixed
to Universal Time (time on the prime meridian), and others that are
interpreted according to a timezone. Some consider the day to start at
noon and others at midnight, which is semantically significant for the
complete-day counts. The functions of this module appropriately handle
the semantics of all the non-trivial conversions.

The day count systems supported by this module are Julian Date, Reduced
Julian Date, Modified Julian Date, Dublin Julian Date, Truncated Julian
Date, Chronological Julian Date, Rata Die, and Lilian Date, each in both
integral and fractional forms.

Bug#575988: ITP: libdate-iso8601-perl -- Perl handling of the three ISO 8601 numerical calendars

  Version : 0.003
  Upstream Author : Andrew Main (Zefram)
* URL : http://search.cpan.org/dist/Date-ISO8601/
* License : Perl
  Programming Lang: Perl
  Description : Perl handling of the three ISO 8601 numerical calendars

The international standard ISO 8601 "Data elements and interchange
formats - Information interchange - Representation of dates and times"
defines three distinct calendars by which days can be labelled. It
also defines textual formats for the representation of dates in these
calendars. This module provides functions to convert dates between
these three calendars and Chronological Julian Day Numbers, which is
a suitable format to do arithmetic with. It also supplies functions
that describe the shape of these calendars, to assist in calendrical
calculations. It also supplies functions to represent dates textually in
the ISO 8601 formats. ISO 8601 also covers time of day and time periods,
but this module does nothing relating to those parts of the standard;
this is only about labelling days.

  Description : Lexically warn about using the indirect object syntax.

When enabled (or disabled as some may prefer to say, since you actually turn it
on by calling no indirect), this pragma warns about indirect object syntax
constructs that may have slipped into your code. This syntax is now considered
harmful, since its parsing has many quirks and its use is error prone (when
swoosh isn't defined, swoosh $x actually compiles to $x->swoosh).

It currently does not warn for core functions (print, say, exec or system).
This may change in the future, or may be added as optional features that would
be enabled by passing options to unimport.

This module is not a source filter.

  Description : Lexically disable autovivification.

When an undefined variable is dereferenced, it gets silently
upgraded to an array or hash reference (depending of the type of the
dereferencing). This behaviour is called autovivification and usually
does what you mean (e.g. when you store a value) but it's sometimes
unnatural or surprising because your variables gets populated behind
your back. This is especially true when several levels of dereferencing
are involved, in which case all levels are vivified up to the last,
or when it happens in intuitively read-only constructs like exists.

This pragma lets you disable autovivification for some constructs and
optionally throws a warning or an error when it would have happened.

2010-03-30 Thread Ivan Kohler
Hello,

Are you still interested in packaging libautobox-core-perl? I'm working
on packaging libperl5i-perl which depends on it and it would be great to
get it in the archive.

Let me know if there's anything I can do to help. If you're amenable
I'd be happy to prepare a package for your review, or take the ITP and
upload.

Same for libautobox-list-util and libclass-perl

defaults to 'null' logging activity, so a module can safely log without
worrying about whether the application has chosen (or will ever choose)

A Hash::AsObject is a blessed hash that provides read-write access to its

  Description : Perl library for JSON serialising/deserialising

This module converts Perl data structures to JSON and vice versa. Its
primary goal is to be correct and its secondary goal is to be fast. To
reach the latter goal it was written in C.

Beginning with version 2.0 of the JSON module, when both JSON and
JSON::XS are installed, then JSON will fall back on JSON::XS (this can
be overriden) with no overhead due to emulation (by inheritign
constructor and methods). If JSON::XS is not available, it will fall
back to the compatible JSON::PP module as backend, so using JSON instead
of JSON::XS gives you a portable JSON API that can be fast when you need
and doesn't require a C compiler when that is a problem.

Hi Maintainer,

rejected, the files in fcrypt/* seem to have a different license.
There is a notice to look in README, which (of fcrypt) isnt included.
Googling for it shows its something different to the rest of the package.

So: Upstream should fix it and include the (C) notices of stuff he copies
in, and then you need to fix your debian/copyright file.

  Description : Crypt::Eksblowfish from CPAN

An object of this type encapsulates a keyed instance of the Eksblowfish block
cipher, ready to encrypt and decrypt.

Eksblowfish is a variant of the Blowfish cipher, modified to make the key setup
very expensive. ("Eks" stands for "expensive key schedule".) This doesn't make
it significantly cryptographically stronger, but is intended to hinder
brute-force attacks. It also makes it unsuitable for any application requiring
key agility. It was designed by Niels Provos and David Mazieres for password
hashing in OpenBSD. See Crypt::Eksblowfish::Bcrypt for the hash algorithm.

Eksblowfish is a parameterised (family-keyed) cipher. It takes a cost parameter
that controls how expensive the key scheduling is. It also takes a family key,
known as the "salt". Cost and salt parameters together define a cipher family.
Within each family, a key determines an encryption function in the usual way.
See Crypt::Eksblowfish::Family for a way to encapsulate an Eksblowfish cipher
family.

This module maintains a concept of a current selection of entropy source.
Algorithms that require entropy can use the source nominated by this module,
avoiding the need for entropy source objects to be explicitly passed around.
This is convenient because usually one entropy source will be used for an
entire program run and so an explicit entropy source parameter would rarely
vary. There is also a default entropy source, avoiding the need to explicitly
configure a source at all.

Bug#411704: ITP: libxsloader-perl -- XSLoader from CPAN - Dynamically load C libraries into Perl code

2007-02-20 Thread Ivan Kohler
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Ivan Kohler <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

* Package name: libxsloader-perl
  Version : 0.07
  Upstream Author : Sébastien Aperghis-Tramoni <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://search.cpan.org/dist/XSLoader/
* License : same as Perl itself
  Programming Lang: Perl, C (CPAN module)
  Description : XSLoader from CPAN - Dynamically load C libraries into Perl
code

This module defines a standard simplified interface to the dynamic linking
mechanisms available on many platforms. Its primary purpose is to implement
cheap automatic dynamic loading of Perl modules.

For a more complicated interface, see DynaLoader. Many (most) features of
DynaLoader are not implemented in XSLoader, like for example the dl_load_flags,
not honored by XSLoader.

Bug#411626: ITP: libauthen-passphrase-perl -- Authen::Passphrase from CPAN - module encapsulating hashed passwords/passphrases as objects

2007-02-20 Thread Ivan Kohler
Package: wnpp

Owner: Ivan Kohler <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

  Version : 0.005
  Upstream Author : Andrew Main (Zefram) <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://search.cpan.org/dist/Authen-Passphrase/
* License : same as Perl itself
  Programming Lang: Perl (CPAN module)
  Description : Authen::Passphrase from CPAN - module encapsulating hashed
passwords/passphrases as objects

This is the base class for a system of objects that encapsulate passphrases.
An object of this type is a passphrase recogniser: its job is to recognise
whether an offered passphrase is the right one. For security, such passphrase
recognisers usually do not themselves know the passphrase they are looking for;
they can merely recognise it when they see it. There are many schemes in use to
achieve this effect, and the intent of this class is to provide a consistent
interface to them all, hiding the details.

The CPAN package Authen::Passphrase contains implementations of several
specific passphrase schemes in addition to the base class.

Bug#329990: Subject: RFA: libtest-inline-perl -- Embed tests and code examples in POD

2005-09-24 Thread Ivan Kohler
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request an adopter for the libtest-inline-perl package.

The package description is:
 Test::Inline is a way to embed tests in the same file as your source code
 rather than in a seperate file. The idea is, the closer your tests are to
 your code and docs, the more likely you'll keep them up to date.
