I would be happy to do so. The package has already been accepted into
the Debian archive. If you think it is important, I can ask the

I understand your issue. And though the ANSI standard does differ from
CLTL2, I personally find CLTL2 a useful guide for understanding some
aspects of the Common Lisp language.

My understanding of the viewpoints in the Common Lisp community is, of
course, that the HyperSpec is the more definitive reference. But I
also believe that many people consider CLTL2 to be an important and
helpful book. Do you think this my belief reflects reality?

Thanks for packaging the HyperSpec, I do refer to it often.

2002-07-15 Thread Kevin Rosenberg
An adoption update: I upgraded to upstream 1.0b and have added 4 new
binary packages for it (scribe-el, libapache-mod-scribe, scribe-doc,
and scribe-examples). These all test fine on my system.

However, bigloo's executable program afile (Bug 151978) is not working.
scribe's building depends on this executable. So, as soon as this
bug in bigloo gets fixed, I'll be ready to release scribe_1.0b.

I haven't used PSGML much, but the main differences I see is that
PSGML requires finding an external DTD, and lacks the features below:

* 'docbook-complete' function for inserting element and attribute names
* Automatic insertion of element content (e.g. firstname and surname in author)
* Automatic completion of end-tags
* Comprehensive abbreviations table to further ease typing

No, docbookide has more than an embedded DTD. Just to be clear, a
"DTD" does not come with docbookide. Rather, it has within it's code
the logic of the DTD. Given that Norm Walsh wrote docbookide, I trust
him as an expert of docbook.

I need to learn more about psgml, then, since I didn't see those on my
brief, initial testing. OTOH, the only SGML documents that I create
are docbook documents.

> > * Comprehensive abbreviations table to further ease typing
> Does that just mean keybindings?

No, the logic processes abbreviations and transformed the input into
full names.

Also, docbookide includes automatic insertion of subfields, such as
firstname, lastname fields when starting an author field, or title
fields when starting a section field.

Thanks for your thoughts. I don't tend to view a Debian package as
derivative work of the original source since the distributed source
code is unmodified. Further, the distributed binary is exactly the
same binary as would be produced on a compilation from the original
source in a non-Debian sytem.

I agree that Debian packages adds information around the source and
binary as well as applies compressions. This may, I agree with you,
cause it to be considered a derivation.

As I put in the ITP, iozone3 should be in non-free. I agree with you
it is good to be safe. Thus, I will write to the authors and request
written permission to distribute in the non-free section of Debian.

BTW, I have the Debian package created and ready to upload. I like
this ITP aspect of Debian where issues like this can be discussed
before an potentially damaging upload occurs.

The last time I spoke with Norcott I asked him about the intent
of the license. He indicated that anyone could use it and distribute
it for free. The idea of the later sentence was to protect Iozone
so that if someone modified it, the original author would still
have the right to publish future works that included any additions

that may or may not be freeware. Iozone's code is intended to

for someone to take the code out of Iozone, repackage it

The main reason for ctn to be Debian, IMO, is that my computed
