Bug#292754: O: libcpanplus-perl -- Download and install perl modules from CPAN - in a modern way

2005-01-29 Thread Marc Brockschmidt
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I intend to orphan the libcpanplus-perl package. I've packaged it back
when i thought i would regularly work with it, but this didn't happen.
As it will probably be a part of perl 5.10, someone should try to work
with our users to find out what the best way to package it is.
I've implemented some ideas, but didn't have the time to really check
if it works in every situation like I think it should.

The package description is:
The CPANPLUS module is designed to automate the download, make and
install of perl modules and extensions.
 .
It uses the CPAN network to fetch all needed data and is also
able to search for modules and/or keywords.
 .
CPANPLUS will replace CPAN in the 5.10 series of perl.

The last line is obsolete anyway, CPAN will still be part of perl 5.10.

There is a new upstream release available (0.51), but the diff to the
Debian package (0.49) is *really* big.

Bug#291109: RFA: dh-make-perl -- Create debian packages from perl modules

2005-01-18 Thread Marc Brockschmidt
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

Heya,

I'm searching a maintainer for the dh-make-perl package. I don't have
that much free time and my interest in maintaing the really *bad* code
for dh-make-perl faded in the last few months.

The package description is:
dh-make-perl will create the files required to build a debian source
package out of a perl package. This works for most simple packages
and is also useful for getting started with packaging perl modules.
Given a perl package name, it can also automatically download it from
 CPAN.

An Alioth project with an existing CVS is available and I'll add the
next maintainer to the admin list.

There are some bug reports, some easily solvable, others needing a
rework of the whole code. I was planning to do a rewrite to get rid of
the old, not very structured code, but never did so.

Anyway, i'd be happy to give the package away to someone doing more for
its users. Please contact me before actually adopting the package,
thanks.

Marc

Bug#257561: O: lavaps -- a lava lamp of currently running processes

I got this from the Maintainer:

| If you don't fix this bug until 2004-07-15, I'll NMU this package.
| Please adopt lavaps properly, or atleast mark it as orphaned.
| I've been meaning to do that for a while.

Description: a lava lamp of currently running processes
Lavaps is an interactive process-tracking program like ``top'', but
with a much different attitude. Rather than presenting lots of
specific info in digital form, it tries to present certain important
information in a graphical analog form. The idea is that you can run
it in the background and get a rough idea of what's happening to your
system without devoting much concentration to the task.

I'll do a QA upload closing the one remaining rc bug in a few minutes.

Bug#233205: ITP: perlpanel -- A lean Gtk2 panel written in Perl

2004-02-17 Thread Marc Brockschmidt
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: perlpanel
  Version : 0.3.1
Upstream Author : Gavin Brown [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://jodrell.net/projects/perlpanel/
* License : GPL-2
Description : A lean Gtk2 panel written in Perl

PerlPanel draws a small taskbar on your screen to display some useful widgets
like a programs menu, some shortcut icons, a clock and so on. It's similar to
the Windows Taskbar, the Gnome Panel, and KDE's Kicker.
 .
However, those programs are designed to be tightly integrated into the
environment they are part of. For example, Kicker's not much use without
 KDE.
 .
This kind of flies in the face of the Unix tradition of having lots of
small, simple programs that don't depend on each other. Such is the
price of user-friendliness. So users of minimalist window managers miss
out on the useful bits of panel programs because they won't, or can't,
run a heavy desktop environment on their systems.
 .
This is where PerlPanel comes in. It is a panel program much in the vein
of the Gnome Panel and Kicker, but is completely independent of any
particular environment. So you can use it with Blackbox, for example, or
 WindowMaker.

Bug#225427: ITP: libgnome2-vfs-perl -- Perl bindings to the 2.x series of the GNOME VFS library

2003-12-29 Thread Marc Brockschmidt

* Package name: libgnome2-vfs-perl
  Version : 0.10
Upstream Author : Torsten Schoenfeld [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Description : Perl interface to the 2.x series of the GNOME VFS library

libgnome2-vfs-perl provides Perl bindings for the 2.x series of the GNOME
 VFS library.
 .
GNOME VFS is the GNOME virtual file system. It provides a modular architecture
and ships with several modules that implement support for file systems, http,
ftp and others. It provides a URI-based API, a backend supporting asynchronous
file operations, a MIME type manipulation library and other features.
 .
The perl bindings follow the C API very closely, and the C reference
documentation should be considered the canonical source.
