Thanks for taking care of this package. See below for a correction of the

As we didn't use the term/abbreviation "K Desktop Environment" upstream in KDE
for years and "KDE" (no abbreviation anymore) stands for the community (but
not the software) we should fix this. My proposal:

Kronometer is a stopwatch (timer/chronometer) application

(I omitted "built for ..." on purpose, because the 1.6.0 version is based on
kdelibs4/KDE Platform 4 but there is afaik already a port to KDE Frameworks 5
and this should be a detail, we don't mention the Qt dependencies as well in
the short description.

... Ah, just saw that this text is from the upstream author, will CC: him...
Elvis, could you fix this on the webpage as well. Don't hesitate to ask for
clarification or help!

Thanks guys!
Mario

I think this should be "Qt" (for the Qt Framework from Nokia) and not "QT" for
Quicktime? And yes I saw that's wrong upstream (see URL above) as well.

thx

Bug#378750: RFP: nmm - Network-Integrated Multimedia Middleware

2006-07-18 Thread Mario Fux
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name:nmm
  Version: 0.9.1
  Upstream Author: several
* URL: http://www.networkmultimedia.org
* License: GPL and LGPL
  Description: Network-Integrated Multimedia Middleware

Multimedia is still not well supported in most Unix environments in contrast
to other OS-platforms where several multimedia infrastructures are
established. However these models adopt a PC-centric approach, where all
multimedia processing takes place within a single computer. The network is,
at best, used for streaming data transmission.

Since there is a strong trend towards networked multimedia devices (like
networked cameras, audio devices, PDAs, celluar phones, settop-boxes, and
PCs) these centralized approaches are becoming obsolete. The goal of our work
is to design and develop a multimedia middleware, which considers the network
as an integral part and enables the intelligent use of devices distributed
across a network.

We are currently designing and implementing a network-integrated multimedia
infrastructure for Linux (as well as other operating systems). Our unified
architecture offers a simple and easy to use interface for applications to
integrate multimedia functionality. Therefore, it can be used as enabling
technology for traditional multimedia applications, but also for ubiquitous
computing and mobile computing.

The NMM project is a joint R&D effort of the Computer Graphics Lab at Saarland
University and Motama, a spin-off company of Saarland University, Germany.
The result of our work is available as Open Source (LGPL and GPL). Commercial
services and support for developing specific solutions based on NMM
technology are provided by Motama.
