I packaged and uploaded ezquake, a different quakeworld client. It
still has upstream activity unlike tyr-quake.

It's been waiting for ftp master review for about a month now [0].

Bug#793633: developers-reference: discuss how to handle backports

2015-07-25 Thread Michael Gilbert
x-debbugs-cc: debian-wnpp@lists.debian.org,
debian-backpo...@lists.debian.org, 793...@bugs.debian.org

Hi,

Resent to correctly include the CC's above.

I received a bug against wine today, which boils down to a request for
regular backporting of the package to stable:
http://bugs.debian.org/793551

I'm perfectly happy if there is someone else out there willing to do
that, but I'm not at all interested myself.

What is the best way to indicate that? A new type of wnpp bug might
possibly be useful, maybe RFB = Request For Backport?

Best wishes,
Mike

No. If the needrestart pacage is insufficiently clear about its
limitations, then a minor bug report about that may be helpful.

At east I'd suggest that such functionality would be rather added to
needrestart and not something new be implemented.

Whoever implements this RFP is free to do so however they choose.

Ideally, needrestart should in the long-run become default in Debian,...
it should replace the current practise of packages restarting their
services themselves in the maintainer-scripts unconditionally (i.e. even
it there wouldn't be strict need to do so from the technical side).

That has nothing to do with this RFP. A wishlist bug against
src:needrestart about that would be useful; patches even better.

I request assistance with maintaining the fglrx-driver package.

 The package description is:

  .
This package provides 2D display drivers and hardware accelerated OpenGL
for X.Org version 7.1. For 3D acceleration to work, you will need to
compile the fglrx kernel module for your kernel: see the fglrx-source
package. Note that the driver will work without the kernel module, but 3D
  acceleration will be disabled.
  .
The driver can work with plain mesa libGL, but some applications may require
the proprietary libGL. This library is shipped in the fglrx-glx package.
  .
This driver is not free. As an alternative, you may try the newest free
  driver xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd.

This driver will replace parts of your X11 and Mesa system.

My further TODO in the team:
 - Better dkms integration

are there specific issues with dkms? if so, i can take a look at them.
from my experience dkms works just fine so far.

 This preview package contains :

 repository
(you can request access on [1]).

Secondly, to explain the stalled status of this ITP :
yuicompressor used a modified and embeded version of rhino Javascript
 library.
YUI Compressor won't work with genuine rhino debian package [2].

I've seen in your debian/rules that you are trying to apt-get source rhino
during build : it seems wrong from my point of view. You cannot rely on deb-
src lines in /etc/apt/sources.list to build your package and you cannot
download source code during build (even when using apt-get).

One possible short term solution will be to create a new rhino-source package
(like we have cacao-source package) to cleanly Build-Depends from but I
haven't had time to work on it (patches welcome :).

Other mid-term solution, will be to fix yuicompressor to use clean AST
 (Abstract Syntax Tree) processor [3].

Hi,

I've merged my version with the existing work and commited it to
pkg-java's svn repo. Please take a look at it. At this point, the
package builds and it is lintian-clean. I'd be very interested in any
contructive feedback you may have.

Best wishes,
Mike

Bug#519938: RFS: System protoaculous library

2009-12-29 Thread Michael Gilbert
Hi,

I have put together a protoaculous package for the packages currently
embedding it (which of course leads to difficulty when it comes to
security updates). I am looking for a sponsor that would be willing
to upload the package. Note that I also had to package yui-compressor
(which already had an ITP #519938 that appeared to have stalled) in
order to satisfy the build dependencies for protoaculous.

The protoaculous packages are available at:
- URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/p/protoaculous
- Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable main
contrib non-free
- dget
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/p/protoaculous/protoaculous_1.dsc

The yui-compressor packages are available at:
- URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/y/yui-compressor
- Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable main
contrib non-free
- dget
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/y/yui-compressor/yui-compressor_2.4.2-1.dsc

I am new to building my own packages for inclusion in the archive, and
I may have done some non-standard things, so any and all feedback is
very welcome.

Best wishes,
Mike

In the distant future, humanity has spread throughout the universe, to
ends of the galaxy and beyond. A vast communications network bridges
from colony to colony, human to machine, and machine to human. This
seemingly benign keystone of modern inter-planetary society, however,
appears to be the carrier of a mysterious techno-biological plague. Any
persons so-connected seem to fall ill and die, only to return as
ravenous, sub-human cannibals. You, a machine intelligence, an android,
remain unafflicted by this strange phenomenon and have been tasked with
destroying the growing hordes of the infected, while, hopefully,
locating and stopping the source of the epidemic.

Description : Valve's steam game content delivery system

This package is a wrapper that makes it easy to install and run Valve's
Steam program via wine. The intent will be for this package to be a
part of the contrib archive. A preliminary version of the package has
been uploaded to debian-mentors for review and testing, [1]. There has
already been some interesting discussion on the mentors list. Please
read [2], [3], and [4] to get up to speed. I am looking forward to the
discussion and getting this package added to the archive.

Steam (www.steampowered.com) is a game content delivery system
developed by Valve software (http://www.valvesoftware.com). This is
a windows application, which is supported on your Debian system via
wine (http://www.winehq.org). Not all steam games work at this time,
but many do. Games that work very well include half-life,
counter-strike, half-life 2, and counter-strike: source. More
information about steam can be found at http://www.steampowered.com.

Bug#206691: python-matplotlib unresolved dependencies

2005-11-03 Thread Michael Gilbert
Hello all,

I already reported this directly to Alexendre, but I am duplicating it
here so that it can be tracked properly (hopefully this is the right
location since the package doesn't yet exist on the BTS). The
matplotlib package
(http://people.debian.org/~zufus/matplotlib/0.83.2/python2.4-matplotlib_0.83.2-3_i386.deb)
should have dependencies on the tetex-base and dvipng packages. The
following python code will not work properly unless both latex and
dvipng are present on the user's system.

 import pylab
 pylab.rc('text', usetex=True)
 pylab.xlabel(r'test $\alpha$')
 pylab.show()

Thank you for the hard work putting this useful package together.

Regards,
Mike Gilbert

this is a request for packaging of the Python matplotlib module. it is
