I'm also interested in getting this into Debian. I'm also the maintainer of
all the WorldForge libs in Debian.

Do you have already some partly Debian source package?
Would you provide this for further work on Ember?

Bug#485037: ITP: tomcat-native -- Tomcat native library using apache portable runtime

2008-06-07 Thread Michael Koch

* Package name: tomcat-native
  Version : 1.1.13
  Upstream Author : Apache Software Foundation
* URL : http://tomcat.apache.org/
* License : Apache License 2.0
  Programming Lang: C
  Description : Tomcat native library using apache portable runtime

 Tomcat can use the Apache Portable Runtime to provide superior scalability,
 performance, and better integration with native server technologies.
 The Apache Portable Runtime is a highly portable library that is at the
 heart of Apache HTTP Server 2.x. APR has many uses, including access to
 advanced IO functionality (such as sendfile, epoll and OpenSSL), OS level
 functionality (random number generation, system status, etc), and native
 process handling (shared memory, NT pipes and Unix sockets).
 .
 These features allows making Tomcat a general purpose webserver, will
 enable much better integration with other native web technologies, and
 overall make Java much more viable as a full fledged webserver platform
 rather than simply a backend focused technology.

Sorry for the long delay.

I have two nitpicks on the package currently before uploading.

The first ist the lintian warning about this being an NMU. The problem
is that your name in the Maintainer field is slightly different to the
name in the changelog.

The second is your debian/copyright. You tell that the programm is
licensed and GPL v2 or later but link to the file
/usr/share/common-licenses/GPL-2. Furthermore you changed the text in
the last paragrah of the GPL disclaimer. While we are at it please
indent the disclaimer with 4 spaces to make directly visible what the
actual license is.

It doesnt make sense to put this stuff into two different source

  Description : swing-layout - Extensions to Swing layout

Swing Layout Extensions goal is to make it easy to create professional
cross platform layouts with Swing. This project has an eye towards the
needs of GUI builders, such as NetBeans. This project consists of the
following pieces:

 * Ability to get the baseline for components.

 * Ability to get the preferred gap between components.

 * A new LayoutManager that utilizes both of these concepts and is tuned
   toward a free-form drag and drop layout model as can be provided by GUI
builders.

What is the status of this? I would be very interested in it too. I'm
member of the Debian Java team. I dont care which team does the
maintenance. It should just be made sure the package works as expected
in all Java envirtonments. I can act as a co-maintainer for the package
too, if you like.

Horrible.

Are all source packages normally release in sync? If yes I would prefer
one big source package which includes the tarballs of all releases and
builds either seven binary packages or one binary package with 7 jars.
I think I would prefer the later one.

Why do you use the suffix '-sharp'? All other .Net related packages

According to their website the license is called "X.Net". I wonder if

The plans are to wait for libtomcat5-java and liblucene-java to be in
unstable/main. libtomcat5-java should be there tomorrow. liblucene-java
can take a while as we need to fix some rmic issues first to be able to
build it with a completely free toolchain.

When this is sorted out and no bigger problems are known with the debs
we will upload it directly into the archive.

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: jamvm

  Upstream Author : Robert Lougher <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

  Description : Java Virtual Machine which conforms to the JVM

JamVM is a new Java Virtual Machine which conforms to the JVM
specification version 2 (blue book). In comparison to most other
VM's (free and commercial) it is extremely small, with a stripped
executable on PowerPC of only ~110K, and Intel 80K. However, unlike
other small VMs (e.g. KVM) it is designed to support the full
specification, and includes support for object finalisation, the
Java Native Interface (JNI) and the Reflection API.

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: mercator
  Version : 0.2.0
  Upstream Author : Alistair Riddoch <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://www.worldforge.org/
* License : GPL
  Description : terrain library for online multiplayer games

 Mercator is primarily aimed at terrain for multiplayer online games and
 forms one of the WorldForge (http://www.worldforge.org) core libraries.
 It is intended to be used as a terrain library on the client, while a
 subset of features are useful on the server.
 .
 Mercator is designed in such a way that individual tiles can be
 generated on-the-fly from a very small source data set. Each tile uses
 a fast deterministic random number generation to ensure that identical
 results are produced "anytime, anywhere". This enables transmission of
 terrain across low bandwidth links as part of the standard data stream,
 or server side collision detection with the same terrain that the
 player sees.
 .
 The use of tiles means that there is inherently a large degree of gross
 control of the shape of the terrain. Finer control is implemented by
 allowing geometric modifications - for example, a polygonal area might
 be flattened, or a crater could be applied.

Perhaps you should contact the upstream author of SAGE (Simon Goodall)
about this. I just package this helper library for SEAR (from Simon
Goodall too)

  Description : wftk is a Graphical User Interface library for C++

wftk is a Graphical User Interface library for C++ that uses SDL
(Simple Directmedia Layer) as its output layer. It allows application
and game programmers to put together portable graphical applications
easily. wftk has a range of already implemented widgets and uses
libsigc++ as a signal dispatching system. It also performs resource
management and has a sound system.

Font rendering is supported using FreeType2, with prerendered
characters, hence text can be blitted as fast as a bitmap font with all
the benefits of scalable TrueType fonts.

The widgets include labels, single/multi line edit boxes, push/toggle
buttons, list boxes, animation playback widgets (using SMPEG),
progress dialogs and standard dialogs. Animated mouse cursors that can
change their appearance depending on the position of the mouse are
easily supported, and creating one's own widgets from scratch or by
combining others is quickly done through use of inheritance.

You're right. And "Ron Steinke" is a better upstream author name then
