You may wish to contact the previous mailscanner maintainer [0][1] and
dig through all the existing/archived bugs [2] to find out why it was
removed from the archive post-squeeze, and if it may be suitable for
debian in the future.

Bug#622946: Where should the EC2 AMI certificate live?

2011-10-28 Thread Michael Shuler
tag 573857 + help
tag 597537 + help
thanks

As Charles mentioned in #597537 [0], the EC2 AMI certificate is
distributed in the euca2ools package in Ubuntu - should it live in
euca2ools in Debian? Or, perhaps in the future cloud-utils package [1],
as Charles mentions later in the same bug report?

I am working on cleaning up the ca-certificates bug list and since AWS
EC2 is not a signing Certificate Authority, I don't think it is
appropriate for ca-certificates. I would like to reassign the merged
bugs #573857 and #597537 to a proper package that would like to include
the EC2 certificate. Thoughts?

I pulled all the missing releases from snapshot.d.o and imported them to
the collab-maint/ca-certificates repository:

git+ssh://git.debian.org/git/collab-maint/ca-certificates.git

Clone away!

I stashed my previous updates and I will see if I can find some
additional time this weekend to push them to my ca-certificates
repository and get someone to take a look at them.

I haven't looked at many other collab-maint repos to get an idea of what
branches might be needed - there is currently only master.

This sounds acceptable, but I thought of using snapshot.d.o to see if I
could fill in some history, and I have some time Saturday to work on this.

I init'ed collab-maint/ca-certificates, but I would like to see if I can
at least fill in the release history, as mentioned above.

I am, now - thank you for the reminder.

As a customer support and systems engineer at Rackspace (I no longer
work there), I dealt with various Certificate Authorities regularly, on
behalf of customers, set up various software to use SSL/TLS,
troubleshoot problems, etc. While I would not consider myself a
cryptography expert, I am familiar with the workings and the field
interests me.

This is what I had started working on - I started picking off some
low-hanging fruit: packaging clean up start, po updates, etc. I'd like
to find and fill in the few missing releases in git first, that would
make me happy, then merge some of the changes I made.

I have not received a reply from Stefan, either.

I would like to help :-)

I pulled the latest git repo that I could find (which was quite a few
releases behind) and committed the last couple releases to have a place
to start. I emailed Philipp Kern and asked if he had a repository that
was more current, and again about a week ago to ask a couple other
questions about his ideas on redesigning the package, which he mentioned
in an email, but I haven't heard back (I know he's crazy busy :-) ).

I've worked a bit on a local clone, working thru some of the existing
bugs and I've been looking at how ca-certificates is used in other
reverse dependencies. I've sort of been waiting to see if there is
another repo to start with, before going too far and needing to rewrite
lots of history.

> I think we should setup a git repo in collab-maint or something.

I also just asked to be added to collab-maint for precisely the same
reason - I think it would be a good place for maintenance of the package.

My repo is a clone of pkern's with the last couple versions commited on top:

There are a couple of interested parties currently working on pgpool2
packaging - myself and Rodolphe Quiédeville are in touch on the
pkg-postgresql-public mailing list, and we'll work together to get a

I also CC'ed Andreas Putzo, the current owner of ITA #471826, on a list

ascending or descending characters, or characters close to each other in
the keyboard. It will also attempt to search the ispell word file for

Ah, I see - excellent.

> What would be the point of *-installer packages for djb software if the
> code becomes DFSG compatible?

None - you are absolutely correct. I would then like to formally
request that the following current patches in BTS for djbdns-installer
be included (or at least seriously considered) in the djbdns package, if
the binary redistribution stars align:

#107578: djbdns-installer: IPv6 record types not supported (Merged with
#107579)
#243323: extra file in package (djbdns-conf-fhs)
#274000: djbdns-installer: typo in description of tinydns
#432900: Please add one-second.patch for performance
#432903: Please add native SRV type to tinydns-data / axfr-get
#432471: Truncation of alias chains by tinydns and axfrdns
#447950: Advisory - L.ROOT-SERVERS.NET changing to 199.7.83.42 on
2007-11-01 (includes #432459: B.ROOT-SERVERS.NET IP address changed)

A couple of these are minor/cosmetic (typo and djbdns-conf-fhs), the
root servers are necessary, but IPv6, one-second, SRV, and the alias
chain patch are highly important in our environment.

My real desire is to have all the proper bits in place in the Debian
package (binary or -installer) for our production authoritative server
infrastructure, without the need to roll our own custom .deb's anymore.
If Lenny releases to stable with all the right stuff, then I will be a
happy user.

Thanks for the vid link, Robert - I just saw your post to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] and your link was not posted in BTS as of my reading.

Do let me know if you need any help as you go along - we run a very
large tinydns system at work.

Please provide the source documenting this copyrite/license change. I
took a look at DJB's site and found no indication of this change, nor
has there been any discussion/announcement on the [EMAIL PROTECTED]
mailing list. DJB has been very clear for years about the software
being public domain, but that redistribution of binaries is a completely
different matter [0]

In the last 6-9 months of multiple direct emails, bug reports, etc., I
have received a single reply from Adam without any follow-up to
subsequent messages. I had intended to work on an eventual sponsored
NMU, and would be quite happy to help a fix up djbdns-installer. I
asked around on #d-mentors, sent a detailed email to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
on 08/20/2007, and basically got a casual OK to hijack the package. If
you want to hijack djbdns-installer, I would be grateful to have a full
DD as maintainer, so I can help out without asking for random
sponsorship. ;)

Bug#443263: ITP: libauthen-tacacsplus-perl -- Extension for authentication using tacacs+ server

2007-09-24 Thread Michael Shuler
My sincere thanks to Mike Shoyher and Mike McCauley for the quick and
responsive communication and source update.

Mike McCauley has taken over upstream maintainership of this perl
module, and has released 0.17 to CPAN:

==
0.17 Sat Sep 22 2007, Mike McCauley
 - Mike McCauley ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) is now co-maintainer.
 - DISTNAME changed to Authen-TacacsPlus to be consistent with file
naming of other Authen modules.
 - readme changed to README.
 - Added licensing statement to README, with the approval and consent of
Mike Shoyher.
 - Fixed a typedef in md5.h that breaks md5 on 64 bit machines. Patch
provided by Ernst Oudhof.
 - Removed bogus broken constant TACACS_CLIENT.
 - Fixed a number of compiler warnings, but still does not compile on
Windows.
==

As indicated in the changelog entry, the base URL has changed to:

http://search.cpan.org/dist/Authen-TacacsPlus/

I will roll up a .deb when time permits.

It pays to ask the upstream author(s) for help with licensing
clarification ;)
