Bug#323689: Font not included on ming source

2006-01-30 Thread P.
Hi.

I'm making an official Debian package for the panel [1], and I was be
able to compile the ming source using the 'hopefully' future official
Debian package for ming [2] with only one problem: the operator_panel.pl
file uses a 'fonts/Arial.fdb' file that is not present on the current
panel tarball, so I had to download it from [3].

¿Is it possible to add the missing font file on the panel client source
so it can be totally usable after unpacking? this could make a lot
easier to pack the panel for Debian (and maybe for other distros too).

Thanks.

Bug#266305: About removing gtktalog

2006-04-25 Thread P.
Hello.

I wanted to adopt gtktalog because I though it was the best choice for
media cataloging software, and since there didn't seemed other programs
like it on the archive.

After taking a second look to the choices, I found Gwhere[1], that has
almost the same basic features, but can be used with gtk2, so I'm now
willing to package it, as I stand on [2].

I need it soon too, my package is stucked because of a strong dependency
on the perl extension. I wonder if Mattias or you could accelerate the
uploading to debian of at least the C base and the extensions that do
not have licensing problems, like perl_ext and ruby_ext.

I can help with the debian package too if you want.

I think a large user base is the key on every open source project. If
you want minisip to grow and be usefull to many people (an not only
yourselves), you should try to publish it more, even on Debian.

Well, If you we're thinking of making the package, why didn't you sent
the ITP before?. I don't want to argue, I just want Debian to grow. If
you send the packages soon (15 to 30 days), you may close the ITP, or
else, I'll keep working on it.

Bug#323689: Patch from debian package

2006-06-20 Thread P.
Hello.

This is a patch to op_server applied on the op-panel debian package,
submitted for your consideration. It has three modifications:

1. Adds an initial testing for op_server.cfg so the daemon wont fork a
pid and then fail at startup.

2. Adds a simple checking for pid file at opening.

3. Adds a couple of notes to the pod2man information.

The debian package is now waiting for the ming package to enter debian,
and is now being maintained at the pkg-voip-team.

Regards,

Bug#844078: Updating upstream debian packages

2020-12-16 Thread Érico P
Hello,

AGS has an experimental branch to switch from Allegro4 backend to SDL2
backend.

It's in the process of updating the AGS Debian packaging scripts of this
branch. If someone is interested in helping out, please give a hi here :
https://github.com/adventuregamestudio/ags/issues/1148

Is it alright to statically link SDL_Sound since the version in the Debian
repository targets SDL 1.2 instead of 2?

And should SDL2 be dynamically or statically linked, since depending on the
Debian version, SDL 2 will be pre SDL 2.0.9, which breaks SDL_Sound and
thus breaks ags.

Note that in hdf5tools (from the same source, HDF Group) the advertising clause
is not mandatory. It could be something that would require an update on their
side.
Did you try to contact HDF group?

Bug#481610: RFP: bindfs -- Mirror or overlay a local directory with altered permissions

2008-05-17 Thread Martin P?el
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: bindfs
  Version : 1.6.1
  Upstream Author : Martin Pärtel <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://code.google.com/p/bindfs/
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: C
Description : Mirror or overlay a local directory with altered permissions

bindfs is a FUSE filesystem for mirroring a directory to another
directory, similarly to mount --bind. The permissions of the mirrored
directory can be altered in various ways.

Some things bindfs can be used for:
- Making a directory read-only.
- Making all executables non-executable.
- Sharing a directory with a list of users (or groups).
- Modifying permission bits using rules with chmod-like syntax.
- Changing the permissions with which files are created.

Non-root users can use almost all features, but most interesting
use-cases need user_allow_other to be defined in /etc/fuse.conf

Yeah, I was just looking for a general solution which does not need PAM enabled
daemons.
For instance I did not find a decent way to use exim and pam_mkhomedir...
I think the same is true for all smtp servers, anyway.

Epsilon is C library for wavelet based lossy image compression.
Wavelet-driven compressors are know to be much more effective than
 traditional DCT-based ones (like JPEG).

Currently, the program supports about 30 different wavelet filters,
runs in parallel in multi-threaded and MPI environments, can process
 huge images and much more.

Bug#608171: ITP: kmozillahelper -- Iceweasel-KDE integration

2010-12-28 Thread P. J. McDermott
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: "P. J. McDermott"

* Package name: kmozillahelper
  Version : 0.6.2
  Upstream Author : Lubos Lunak
* URL :
https://build.opensuse.org/package/show?package=mozilla-kde4-integration&project=mozilla%3AFactory
* License : Expat
  Programming Lang: C++
  Description : Iceweasel-KDE integration

This is an integration helper, designed to make Iceweasel work better in KDE
SC 4.

This application handles integration in the following areas:
* Getting proxy configuration
* Getting default applications by file extension, type, and protocol
* The "Open with:" dialog
* The file open dialog
* The file save dialog, with KIO network transparency
* The directory selection dialog
* Opening files with default applications
* Running applications
* Opening the default feed reader
* Opening the default mail client
* Opening the default news client
* Checking and setting the default web browser
* Showing KDE notifications on download completions

This helper application is developed for and shipped with the openSUSE
distribution. It is packaged for and included in Ubuntu. There is also a
package for it in the Arch User Repository and a Git repository to port it to
Fedora. This application appears to be the most complete, "correct", and
widely-supported solution to improving Mozilla Firefox's behavior in KDE.

Upstream development is visible at the following Git repository:
http://gitorious.org/firefox-kde-opensuse

Status of this package:
I actually have the packaging work mostly done and lintian clean; it just needs
mentor review (as I'm not a DD or DM). However, a patch to Iceweasel (mostly
XUL and XPCOM shell service files to work with KDE "the right way") is necessary
for this package to work.

Hi Mike,

I'm admittedly not too familiar with the Mozilla codebase, so I don't
know if packaging this as an extension is possible. If so, then I would
agree that that would be better than patching mainline Iceweasel. I was
in fact planning to defer to your knowledge and judgment on this once I
got the package up on mentors.debian.net. Below is the Mozilla Firefox
patch in question, as applied by two distributions; if you have a
chance, can you let me know what the best way to include this would be
(extension or Iceweasel patch)?

openSUSE (upstream) patch, applied to Firefox 3.6.6:
http://gitorious.org/firefox-kde-opensuse/firefox-kde-opensuse/blobs/master/mozilla.patch

Ubuntu patch, applied to Firefox 3.6.13:
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~mozillateam/firefox/firefox-3.6.head/annotate/head%3A/debian/patches/firefox-kde.patch

Also, it seems this helper application currently does not work with
other Mozilla applications. Because of this, the Ubuntu maintainer
renamed the binary package to firefox-kde-support in Ubuntu 10.10.

Any help you can provide with this would be appreciated. If you'd like
to see what I have so far (the package is built and lintian-clean, I
mainly just have to test it more), I can push the package to
mentors.d.n. Otherwise, I'll hold off for now.

Thanks,
P. J.

True. The most trivial Firefox-specific code I found in the package was
the use of the "firefox" application icon in the about data (and I can't
see how that would be visible to the user anyway) and the application
name in the download complete notification. Other than that, I just see
isDefaultBrowser() and setDefaultBrowser() shell service methods that,
worst case, might have to be replaced in other Mozilla applications. If
you know the equivalents for the other applications, then I can
re-implement those methods when/if the time comes.

Sounds good, thanks.

To be honest, I'd love to see this make it into Debian because the
current state of Mozilla Firefox and KDE integration makes some things a
bit of a UI nightmare. There is no integration with a default
applications registry in KDE, so when trying to open a file a user is
dropped to a file picker. The average user wouldn't know to go to
/usr/bin and find, for example, okular to open a PDF file.

Anyway, thanks again for your insight in this matter,
P. J.

IMHO this kind of programs should be avoided in any sane distribution.
We have already periodic problems with a program like sudo which has potentially
many levels of control over its use/abuse. No sysadmin with a grain of salt
in his mind could install this kind of monsters...
Please, find any other sane orphaned pkg and you will have your sponsor in me.

Debian Bug report logs - #75430

2001-12-14 Thread Nicholas P Bamber
Dear Mr. WNPP,

I have been thinking about Mr. Zhaoway's request for a Perl based
filesystem. I think the idea is intriguing
and would have some applications. Context dependent filesystems would be
one. The only issue is how to make it safe.
Clearly it would be quite impossible to embed the perl interpreter inside
the kernel. Well at least I would not think of
attempting that.

I suspect that the correct approach would be based on the notion of a
"user space NFS daemon", one of which I believe is currently in the debian
'netstd' package. That is we would have a perlfsd emulating the nfsd
protocol. Inside it would be calling perl callback functions. These callback
functions should be handling very intuitive objects -- not data blocks.

Ideally we would like some sort of hieararchy along the following lines:
1.) C/C++ hooks and callbacks.Code could be based on this to produce all
sorts of user-mode filesystems.
2.) Building on 1.) the C/C++ hooks would be translated into embedded perl
hooks. The semantics of the filesystem are
still completely open. However it fulfills Mr. Zhaoway's requirement in that
one can now write a perl-based filesystem.
3.) The basic data model for the default implementation would base the
filesystem upon some tree-like structure of Perl objects. These objects
would probably be along the following lines:

a) PerlFileBase class (abstract)
b) PerlDirectoryBase class (derived from a but still abstract)
c) PerlScalarFile (fully implemented class derived from a; The contents of
the file would be those of a scalar value.)
d) PerlHashDirectory (another fully implemented class based on a mapping
from filenames to diretory members)

These Perl classes would provide for a full filesystem but still leave room
for files with dynamic and possibly bizarre semantics.

The only other question I have is would there be any problem with an nfsd
and a perlfsd coexisting on the same machine.

Nicholas Bamber

Upstream is up and running, he pointed me that a better description
is 'QT tool' because it does not use KDE libraries at all.
A QT4 version is ongoing...

Bug#170518: ITP: libnet-easytcp-perl -- Easily create secure, bandwidth-friendly TCP/IP clients and servers

* URL : http://search.cpan.org/author/MNAGUIB/EasyTCP-0.16/
* License : Perl license
Description : Easily create secure, bandwidth-friendly TCP/IP clients and
servers

- One easy module to create both clients and servers
- Object Oriented interface
- Event-based callbacks in server mode
- Internal protocol to take care of all the common transport problems
- Transparent encryption
- Transparent compression

This class allows you to easily create TCP/IP clients and servers and
provides an OO interface to manage the connection(s). This allows you to
concentrate on the application rather than on the transport.

You still have to engineer your high-level protocol. For example, if you're
writing an SMTP client-server pair, you will have to teach your client to
send "HELO" when it connects, and you will have to teach your server what to
do once it receives the "HELO" command, and so forth.

What you won't have to do is worry about how the command will get there,
about line termination, about binary data, complex-structure serialization,
encryption, compression, or about fragmented packets on the received end. All
of these will be taken care of by this class.

A lots of laptops has broken DSDTs. So many of us need to hack
the code to load a local table instead of the bios one.
Currently on my Compaq Presario current patch would be unuseful...

http://www.dcc.ufmg.br/~ghuiban/compaq_presario_2805/linux.html

Maybe you need some deep hack in acpi code to apply.
The best thing to do is a config option to enable/disable a local table
during make *config.

Bug#162607: ITA status report

2004-01-08 Thread Craig P. Steffen
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

I retitled this bug to ITA in August 2003, with the intention that it be
one of the packages that I maintain to start being a DD. I received a
friendly message in December asking, very politely, for a status report
[as a part of the process of clearing out old, dead, IPAs; very sensible].

Due to professional obligations in the fall, I have not gotten to the
state of gearing up to apply for DDevelopership. I did do some looking
into the source code for xwave, however, and discovered that it was
_really_ old. I haven't looked at it in a few months, but as I recall
right now, the last serious coding was 1996, and somebody had hacked on it
and fixed some stuff in 1999, but those were the last significant changes.

I'll look through it again in the next few weeks and verify this. If my
recollection is true, then since I'm sure there are other sound editors
that work perfectly well that are maintained, and I'll probably propose
its removal from Debian as a maintained package. If I don't get to it,
then I'll release the ITA and set it back to orphaned. In either case, I
will update the status by the Superbowl.

Thanks for the ping, Frank.

I'm collecting a few hints and patches in BTS, as well as contacting
reports for clarifications and information. I could upload
a new version with some fixes in the meantime.
If you agree, I could upload a NMU quite soon to fix a few urgencies.

I'm quite confident to squash the remaining serious bugs in a few days,
but at least one point requires a precise choice from the proper
maintainer, i.e. adding or not debconf support to manage ldap/nis maps
or not. A partial solution is a better documentation for some
obscure aspects of remote maps.

If you are seriously interested in maintainership I could
set the new Maintainer field, else I would use the QA contact.

Eventually we could consider co-maint. I use autofs in NIS environment,
so I could work better on some aspects.
