Bug#712830: ITP: dump1090 -- simple Mode S decoder for RTLSDR devices
Control: retitle -1 ITP: dump1090-mutability -- simple Mode S decoder for RTLSDR devices Control: owner -1 ! thanks Hi, I've been working on the existing Debian packaging of mutability's dump1090 fork and it should be in a good shape for including it in Debian. A few changes still need to be made, but I'll get to those. In the mean time, I'm taking the RFP. If anyone sees any interest in packaging any of the other forks of dump1090 please chime-in and clone the report. Bug#741199: RFP: libmaxminddb -- library for working with MaxMind DB files
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist X-debbugs-cc: ge...@packages.qa.debian.org, debian-de...@lists.debian.org Hi, Quoting the README of the libmaxminddb[1]: The libmaxminddb library provides a C library for reading MaxMind DB files, including the GeoIP2 databases from MaxMind. This is a custom binary format designed to facilitate fast lookups of IP addresses while allowing for great flexibility in the type of data associated with an address. This is now the de facto format for the GeoIP (and GeoLite) databases. The library is licensed under the Apache License, version 2. Bug#588219: ca-certificate's maintenance
On Wednesday 07 September 2011 19:50:21 Michael Shuler wrote: I pulled the latest git repo that I could find (which was quite a few releases behind) and committed the last couple releases to have a place to start. I emailed Philipp Kern and asked if he had a repository that was more current, and again about a week ago to ask a couple other questions about his ideas on redesigning the package, which he mentioned in an email, but I haven't heard back (I know he's crazy busy :-) ). I've worked a bit on a local clone, working thru some of the existing bugs and I've been looking at how ca-certificates is used in other reverse dependencies. I've sort of been waiting to see if there is another repo to start with, before going too far and needing to rewrite lots of history. I don't think that some bits of vcs history should become a blocker. Let's better work with what we already have at hand. I think we should setup a git repo in collab-maint or something. I also just asked to be added to collab-maint for precisely the same reason - I think it would be a good place for maintenance of the package. I see that you've been added already, great. A couple of questions: Have you already subscribed to the PTS? Do you have some experience in X.509 certificates, SSL/TLS, or the like? Unless somebody has a different opinion, I think we should first: a) Clean-up the packaging, It is a bit out of date and it leads to a few warnings during the package build. b) Triage the bug reports, marking as 'confirmed' those that we consider valid and that should be fixed relatively soon. All certificate inclusion requests should be left on hold. Comments? Thijs, still haven't heard from you on this thread :) Cheers, -- Raphael Geissert - Debian Developer www.debian.org - get.debian.net -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-wnpp-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#583501: ITA: xserver-xorg-video-openchrome -- display driver for VIA Unichrome video chipsets
Hi, On 19 August 2010 13:30, Julien Viard de Galbert jul...@vdg.blogsite.org wrote: retitle 583501 ITA: xserver-xorg-video-openchrome -- display driver for VIA Unichrome video chipsets owner 583501 ! thanks Hi, I have working hardware and some time to give to debian. Excellent, thanks! Also as squeeze is frozen, an experimental package is probably preferred. The last upload I mentioned on the first message of the RFA includes upstream's r842. Since it fixes some bugs I would recommend you to get an exception from the RT. It's a shame that squeeze won't support the VX855 and VX875 chipsets, though. I've setup a git working place including debian's git and upstream svn. It looks like the experimental branches have not been updated for long. The upstream-experimental will merge nicely, but the debian-experimental branch has kind of diverged... Should I merge it (using some git revert if needed first), or can I just restart it from the debian-unstable branch ? This does not look like good git practice, except if you look at experimental like a wip branch. How are other doing ? Like Julien said, the experimental branches are obsolete. The current public git repo is actually a bit messy because my last upload did not include some changes that were pushed to it (that's what happens when you forget to git fetch...) Finally I'm not DD (nor DM) so I will need help, review and sponsoring, I hope some of you will have time for that. I guess somebody from the X team can help you with that, but I can always try to help too (the team lacks a lot of man power.) Bug#583982: RFP: swftools -- collection of utilities for working with Adobe Flash files (SWF)
Hi, swftools was already in Debian but was later removed. Before anyone considers re-uploading it, please be aware that it must be ported to use poppler (or disable pdf support) or any other pdf library in the archive. That completely rules out the embedded copy of xpdf distributed by upstream. Bug#580680: O: enchant -- a wrapper library for various spell checkers
Hi Timo, Thanks for the upload! We could indeed continue working via collab-maint as mere QA uploads for now. Maybe after a couple of upload we will realise who is willing to work on it and create a small group or at least some sort of mailing list or mail exploder. With your upload now done the next step is to find out how to solve the issue with the different backends. I haven't even checked if enchant is capable of dlopen(3)ing the backends, but that sounds like the right solution. Creating very small packages for each and every backend would be silly. P.S. please keep me CC'ed as I'm not subscribed to the bug. I'm therefore looking for somebody who wants to adopt it. Anyone willing to maintain it please contact the Debian X Strike Force (debia...@lists.d.o). Some info about the package: Description: X.Org X server -- VIA display driver OpenChrome is a project for the development of free and open-source drivers for the VIA UniChrome video chipsets. . Originally called the 'snapshot' release, since it was a snapshot of an experimental branch of the unichrome cvs code, this is a continued development of the open source unichrome driver (from http://unichrome.sf.net) which also incorporates support for the unichrome-pro chipsets. . Support for hardware acceleration (XvMC) for all chipsets has subsequently been ripped out of the unichrome.sf.net driver. Bug#547117: [php-maint] Status of php-idn (removal suggestion)
Hi, 2009/11/7 Micha Lenk mi...@debian.org: Apparently upstream of php-idn (http://php-idn.bayour.com/) is dead: Last release was in November 2006. I don't know what the status of Turbo is, but he is upstream and/or was the Debian maintainer. An alternative provider of the functions idn_to_ascii() and idn_to_utf8() appears to be supplied by the PHP extension intl in the (official?) PECL repository: http://php.net/manual/en/ref.intl.idn.php But it is still missing some of the functions provided by php-idn $ grep PHP_FUNCTION idn.c PHP_FUNCTION(idn_prep_name) PHP_FUNCTION(idn_prep_kerberos5) PHP_FUNCTION(idn_prep_node) PHP_FUNCTION(idn_prep_resource) PHP_FUNCTION(idn_prep_plain) PHP_FUNCTION(idn_prep_trace) PHP_FUNCTION(idn_prep_sasl) PHP_FUNCTION(idn_prep_iscsi) PHP_FUNCTION(idn_punycode_encode) PHP_FUNCTION(idn_punycode_decode) PHP_FUNCTION(idn_to_ascii) PHP_FUNCTION(idn_to_utf8) PHP_FUNCTION(idn_to_unicode) PHP_FUNCTION(tld_check) PHP_FUNCTION(tld_get) PHP_FUNCTION(tld_get_table) Not sure if any function other than _to_ascii and _to_utf8 are used, though. I suggest the removal of the package php-idn once PHP 5.3 and a package for the intl extension is available. For convenience, a transitional package php5-idn depending on the suggested intl extension package might be needed. If somebody is willing to step up to package and maintain the intl extension, php-idn could be removed and the transition between the two started. No matter whether php 5.2.x or 5.3.x is shipped in squeeze, the intl extension is very likely to get its own package (php5-intl) so there's only one transition to be planned. On Sunday 04 October 2009 21:19:58 Erik de Castro Lopo wrote: Getting Qemu set up and running the MIPS image was a major pain in the neck despite having using qemu to run x86 and x86_64 images in the past. The speed of resulting system is also far from acceptable. On a 4 year old dual core amd64 machine, the configure and build of libsndfile takes under two minutes. On the MIPS qemu guest running on the same system, configure was well over 5 minutes (I didn't time it) and the compile has now been running for over 30 minutes and is about half way through. There's apparently an emulator called ovp: http://www.ovpworld2.org/ It requires a forum login to, at least, be able to download it. Bug#519621: RFP: libfile-libmagic-perl -- Perl wrapper for libmagic
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist CPAN Package: File::LibMagic Licence: as Perl itself URL: http://search.cpan.org/~fitzner/File-LibMagic-0.91/LibMagic.pm Description: File::LibMagic is an XS interface to the libmagic library. The main difference between this module and similar modules (like libfile-mmagic-perl) is best described by the module's author: RELATED MODULES I created File::LibMagic because I wanted to use libmagic (from file-4.x) and the otherwise great Module File::MMagic only works with file-3.x. In file-3.x exists no libmagic but an ascii file (/etc/magic) in which all data (magic numbers, etc.) is included. File::MMagic parsed this ascii file at each request and is thus releativly slow. Also it can not use the new data from file-4.x or file-5.x. File::MimeInfo::Magic uses the magic file from freedesktop which is encoded completely in XML, and thus not the fastest approach ( http://mail.gnome.org/archives/nautilus-list/2003-December/msg00260.html ). File::Type uses a relativly small magic file, which is directly hacked into the module code. Thus it is quite fast. It is also mod_perl save. It may be the right choice for you, but the databasis is quite small relative to the file-package. This package might later be used by lintian (if Russ or some other lintian maintainer accepts the change). The test suite fails when testing the local copy of magic{,.mime} it ships. This bug is known by upstream as http://rt.cpan.org/Ticket/Display.html?id=39383 But this is mostly due to libmagic itself, AFAICS; and the other tests succeed. If it is not supported then it should be documented and the dependency on php-db dropped or downgraded to suggests if you insist/think there are chances for it to be used. I have not fully reviewed/audited the code, but the code has several vulnerabilities (symlink attacks, directory traversal, and XSS are those I have identified). The symlinks attack can be launched because of predictable file names used and the default storage directory. To make things worst, the user's input is not sanitized, so it is possible to predict the file name where data is going to be written to by passing an arbitrary pgtIou GET argument. The same lack of sanitization allows an attacker to either perform XSS or directory traversal attacks by abusing the callback function in CAS/client.php). Additionally the functions calling getCallbackURL when proxy mode is enabled can lead to XSS attacks if the validation request fails. A similar situation also applies to functions calling getURL. Tomorrow I'll send this information to bugtraq and will file the corresponding bug reports against packages shipping phpCAS. I strongly recommend you and upstream to audit the code. Bug#495542: RFS: libcas-php
Hi, [No need to CC me as long as -mentors is] Olivier Berger wrote: Hi. Thanks for your review. I'll respond bellow. Le lundi 17 novembre 2008 à 15:20 -0600, Raphael Geissert a écrit : Olivier Berger wrote: [...] The corresponding ITP is found at http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=495542 Note that this package would allow the dependency of a number of packages such as moodle and glpi on that package instead of shipping a copy of phpCAS (http://packages.debian.org/sid/all/moodle/filelist and http://packages.debian.org/sid/all/glpi/filelist). While you are at it, as your package also uses domxml-php4-php5.php why don't you also package it? (it would be better if the code was finally ported instead of using a wrapper, though). I can see a couple of reasons why packaging domxml-php4-php5.php may not be needed : * it's a one file library, so I'm not sure it's really a habit of packaging individual files ? * it may be included in Debian packages only by those which include a copy of phpCAS (but confirmation would be welcome) * It will probably be no longer needed in phpCAS when future releases will be rewritten (as you suggest) to only support php5, thus using the php5 DOM API instead of the old PHP4 one. But that's not something that would be done only for Debian, and I'll wait until a decision is taken upstream (although I may also again contribute to upstream development for that). More details here : http://www.ja-sig.org/issues/browse/PHPCAS-25 about a rewrite to get rid of that wrapper. So until usptream phpCAS releases a new version which allows to get rid of domxml-php4-php5.php, I'll stick with it in. Yeah, I forgot that all the matches I found of the dom lib were because of the embedded copy of phpCAS debian/control: Depends: ${misc:Depends}, php5, php5-curl, php-db Does it really need a web SAPI? Uh, SAPI ? SAPI: Server Application Programming Interface E.g. apache, apache2, cgi, cli, embedded, roxen, etc. or can it be used with php5-cli? in the latter case add an ORed dependency on php5-cli in addition to php5. I have no clue. Typical use of CAS is traditionally on web apps, and the protocol involves redirections between the CAS server and clients, so I'm not so sure a non web use is something interesting. I saw that, but CAS.php looked like a more general pourpose script, although I didn't examine it very well. I suppose most of the use cases would be satisfied as is... unless in CGI mode, where php5-cgi would be ORed too ? No, php5-cgi is already covered by php5. debian/README.Debian: This packaging needs testing as I'm not fully sure there ain't regressions introduced by this upgrade of the DOM parsing library. Have you at lest tested the basic functionality of the library with the newer version of domxml-php4-php5.php or are you blindly packaging stuff? No I have tested it, but you never exactly know for corner cases like error messages hard to test. Btw, my main motivation for packaging it is to use it on a production server, so I'd better have it tested of course. In any case I preferred some explicit mention that it's not exactly upstream's version, to let people know who's to blame in case of problem. Will rephrase as : Differences from upstream version : --- This package includes a Debian specific patch, to replace domxml-php4-php5.php version 1.5.5 (shipped with version 1.0.1 of phpCAS) by version 1.20a of domxml-php4-to-php5.php, which is now under LGPL, making it DFSG-free. Bug#441351: KCometen4 1.0 released
retitle 441351 ITP: kcometen4 -- fireworks animated OpenGL screensaver for KDE owner 441351 John Stamp [EMAIL PROTECTED] thanks 2008/8/20 John Stamp [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Hi Raphael-- I released KCometen4 version 1.0 for KDE4. ...[hiding some info]... Right now I'm trying to hand over some stuff to get some more free time for real life so at the moment I won't package it myself. If at some later point I feel like I have time for extra stuff and you feel like you need another hand I may co-maintain it. Please tell me if my packaging[1] available at pkg-kde's svn repository is of any use for you, otherwise I'll svn rm it (I guess you would use alioth's git facilities if you were to use pkg-kde to maintain the Debian packaging). I am actually interested, but ftp-masters rejected my package about 1.5 years ago because they consider it to tiny (it is just a init script). However that package is as tiny as important, it is a must-have in Linux audio systems using realtime kernels (it sets the correct priority to the IRQ-thread of the soundcard). Do you think I should try to re-upload it motivating the need of the package? Or try to find another package able to host the script? (I would personally prefer the latter, I don't see problems in tiny packages, there are a lot of dummy ones around after all) Why don't you first try the former and then the latter? I see no reason to deny it. I mean, it will actually use less bandwidth and resources than most packages :) Ciao, Free Cheers, -- Atomo64 - Raphael Please avoid sending me Word, PowerPoint or Excel attachments. Bug#464848: Any news?
Dear Paul, 2008/5/24 Paul Menzel [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Dear Raphael, sorry to bother you. Yesterday, I installed a new board with 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. K8M890 [Chrome9] Integrated Video (rev 11) Unfortunately the vesa driver did not support the correct setting, so that using X was not a great experience. I solved it by installing the Ubuntu packages and it works as expected. For more information take a look at [1]. You would be my hero ;) if you could get the package excepted. I have already done the packaging stuff and, IMHO, got it ready to be uploaded. But some folks of the X strike team last time I contacted them were busy, so I'll have to prod some people again (I've been very busy with other stuff for the last two/three weeks, so I couldn't really do much else). If you know how to build the package, it is available at git.debian.org. Bug#164800: I don't know what to do with the rest of the build errors
Hello Kari, On Monday 22 August 2005, Kari Pahula wrote: I wished that having a new version of ace would cull some of the build errors, but they still remain in there. I'm not sure what to do about them, having errors in files like /usr/include/c++/4.0.2/bits/locale_facets.tcc and /usr/include/sys/ucontext.h is quite disconcerting. Some of this may be caused by upstream's fondness of #define. Some errors are plain misuse of templates. I'll give this a rest and move on to some more pressing and fruitful things for now. If anybody else has any idea on how to fix these, I'll welcome their input. What I've got done so far has been put to mentors.debian.net.
