I hope all is well now :)

This all looks great, you've even improved accuracy from the previous
copyright file in a few cases. I am uploading the package now.

Thanks for your contribution!

Cheers,

Thanks for settling these.

 Fixed: error found and fixed
 OK: OK

For this case it is necessary to contact the upstream to verify the license?

I have looked at many of these and it seems the problem your are
noticing is they have a license text block as a comment at the top,
but the license specified for the %IRSSI settings is not referring
to that specific license.

Since the license setting allows plain text without a standard
format, I beleive that the authors have simply been less precise here
without realizing the potential confusion. As long as they specify the
same type of license, but the block is more precise about the specific
license versions, I think it will be fine for us to just use the
license text block which is more precise and limiting.

 Thank you very much!!

Thank you again for your work, and patience, on this! I may be able
to work on this tonight, but hope to get this uploaded by tomorrow, if
not.

Cheers,
Ryan

Bug#663577: irssi-scripts-20120326 new release

2012-04-28 Thread Ryan Niebur
Hello Daniel,

Your new changes look good.

Since I didn't trust myself to do a thorough reivew of the new
copyright file (it seems like more than a person could reasonably
handle in one sitting), I've written a script which compares it with
the old version, which seems to have noticed some possible
discrepancies. I will make the minor corrections for those tonight, if
needed, before completing my review.

Thanks for the patience, your contributions are appreciated.

Cheers,
Ryan

Additionally, I added a copyright.new in debian/, This file is copyright
copyright DEP5 Update to 1.0 format.

Could you check out the new version and the new copyright file?

I've reviewed your packaging work now and overall it looks really
good. Though I do wonder, have you used a git repository to track your
changes? If not, we currently use a repository located here:
  http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=collab-maint/irssi-scripts.git

This would be preferable because it helps to make collaborating and
reviewing changes easier (this would also replace the need to build
and upload the source package to mentors). I think it should be okay
for us to allow you to push changes to the repository there, if you
want...are you a member of collab-maint on alioth?

Anyways, the only major issue I've noticed is that this detail got
removed from debian/rules, but the executable permission is relied on
  by the script:
  # log2ansi.pl will run outside irssi, so it needs the executable bit
  chmod +x $D/usr/share/irssi/scripts/log2ansi.pl
So, we need to set the executable permission on this file during build.

Some other more minor things I noticed are:

The debian/copyright.new file looks very good, however I think the
GPL-2.0 license definition should replace the text about receiving a
copy of the license with a reference to /usr/share/common-licenses, as
you have done with the GPL-2.0+ block. Also, the License:GPL-2.0+ is
missing a space after the colon. I think it should be fine to replace
debian/copyright with your debian/copyright.new once these small
  improvements are made.

With regards to dependencies on perl and perl-modules, this is really
not necessary since the base perl, which is all that is required for
most scripts, is always installed. In debian/README.Debian there is an
explanation of how the dependencies are chosen (at least 3 scripts =
Suggests, at least 20 scripts = Recommends), and it looks like there
are actually more scripts which depend on libwww-perl than perl or
perl-modules, from the list in debian/README.Debian. I'm not opposed
to changing how this is done if there is value added in doing so, but
if we make that choice we will need to update debian/README.Debian as
well (and should possibly treat the other dependencies consistently).
It might be better to just explain the way we do this to the requestor
  of this change instead.

There were a couple patches (go.pl-multiple-networks.diff and
away.pl.diff) which used to have links to bug reports instead of
proper headers, and you've replaced those with DEP5 patch headers
(which is great, thanks!), but I think it could be useful to still
have the old bug references included within the new DEP5 information.

Running the ./update-scripts script will be a good starting point to
get the scripts updated before working on fixing bugs. It will
automate downloading many of the scripts, you will just need to
refresh the patches and look over the differences to update
debian/README.debian and debian/copyright with any changed
information. Please let me know if you have any questions and feel
free to link me to the git repository you use when you are ready for
somebody to sponsor it.

Thanks,

I am going to be very attentive for your opinion.

I am mostly interested in the upgrade of the package because it also
impacts DBIx::Class (maintained under the Debian Perl Group as
libdbix-class-perl). It brings with it many bug fixes, and some
feature additions which have a ripple effect in DBIx::Class, Catalyst
and other packages that depend on them, like the upcoming MojoMojo

Sorry for the delay. My day job has been punishing for the last few
weeks. I've just uploaded the new version to unstable.

I understand that you are a maintainer of iceweasel (wow! thanks!), so
you've probably got bigger fish to fry. It is in that vein that I

An updated package is available in Debian Perl Group's SVN repository.

Today I've hacked around the package a bit, fixing the lintian warnings

lives in /usr/share, meaning that an arch-independent binary package is

why not just upload it as a QA upload?

Let's wait for the releases. Parrot and Rakudo are carefully sync'd at
release points, but there's no guarantee of compatibility at random
 SVN/git revisions.

adding experimental to the sources.list and running apt-get install
-t experimental rakudo is easier than downloading .debs from alioth,
and it means that it's more official (because it's actually in Debian
repos). other than that, I don't see the difference.

I talked some with Patrick about plans for Rakudo releases. It sounds
like it'll be useful to have the 1.6 (maybe 1.8) and 2.3 releases of
Parrot in experimental. Rakudo packages could be in experimental around
Parrot 1.6, (maybe 1.8,) 2.0 (January), and 2.3 (April), then aim for
Rakudo in Debian unstable around Parrot 2.6 (July).

as I'm sure you already know, parrot 1.6 is now released, so how about
an upload to experimental? :)

Rakudo Perl is an implementation of the Perl 6 specification that
runs on the Parrot virtual machine.

I won't be able to upload this for a while, because previous to the
current git version the build system didn't work with system installed

debian maintainer of parrot only uploads the stable releases. So I
have to wait for the next stable version of parrot to be released and

wait until the septemeber releases of both of them. either of which I'd
be happy to do, and I have rakudo + parrot packages building from git/svn.

Now that I have real internet access again... the automated notice was
that 1.4 packages were migrated to testing. So, yes, not relevant to
 what you're looking for.

We only package the stable releases because the intermediate monthly
releases are for development testing, not for broader use. I'm willing
to package some monthly releases between now and Parrot's next stable
release (2.0 in January), just to be absolutely sure that Rakudo
packages can enter unstable at the same time as Parrot 2.0. As long as
it's understood that the experimental packages don't supersede the 1.4
packages in unstable/testing, and won't ever migrate to unstable or
testing. They're just throwaway packages for Rakudo testing.

ya. preparing an experimental upload would be great. Do you want to
wait for the September release or package the SVN version?

But, it really boils down to a question of whether you have Rakudo users
testing Debian experimental. If not, then it makes more sense to put the
 intermediate packages up on alioth.

seen him doing anything on the package (and the last mention in changelog

I am the third maitainer listed in Uploaders but I joined only to
work on the integration with new source package formats (and with build
system in general) and would like to see the package in a better shape but
I don't have the time/will to do all the usual work.

I'm willing to help.

There is lots of work to do:
 - update all the patches for the new upstream version (and we have 22
   patches)
Martin Quinson started this work but he has not yet pushed his work
in a public branch, hopefully that mail will remind him to do it
 - document all the patches and submit them upstream even if they have been
not very receptive to some of them a few years ago (in particular the
rewrite of backup-files in shell apparently)

I'm guessing these two should wait for Martin.

 - go through open bug reports and forward them upstream as well

okay, will look at them.

I ended up packaging this aswell, but you bet me to a submission by a clear

I wonder if you'd be interested in reviewing/accepting the patches.

next time, please file an ITP *before* you start packaging, this is
the purpose of them -- to prevent duplicate work.

I'll look at the rest of your email later.

* License : GPL-3+
  Programming Lang: Perl
Description : tool for checking binary compatibility of shared libraries
ABI-compliance-checker is a lightweight tool for checking backward
binary compatibility of shared C/C++ libraries in OS Linux. It checks
interface signatures and data type definitions in two library
versions (headers and shared objects) and searches ABI changes that
may lead to incompatibility. Breakage of the compatibility may result
in crashing or incorrect behavior of applications built with an old
version of a library when it is running with a new
one. ABI-compliance-checker was intended for library developers that
are interested in ensuring backward binary compatibility. Also
ABI-compliance-checker may be used for checking forward binary
compatibility and compliance checking of the same library versions on
 different Linux distributions.

hm. I can't find bzr-fast-export. which package does it come from?
based on the path to it in the original version containing fastimport,

Was this a bad exception? What do I need to do to make this work?
I can't remove my patch, because of course most users won't have

Following this Ryan Niebur set the owner to no-owner but Nikolas
has not set the owner to himself!

Hence, at this point no one owns this RFA/ITA and I'm setting it back
to RFA since it seems to be bad if the report is itself orphaned! :-)

I left it as ITA because I was assuming Nikolas would take it

want it to show up to people as request for adoption, because it's
not, there are already 2 potential maintainers :).

Bug#463807: RFH: wxwidgets2.8 -- help for wxwidgets2.8 is appreciated

2009-06-30 Thread Ryan Niebur
I will help with this, in hopes that a new version will be more stable
and fix the libwx-perl FTBFS bugs. Padre upstream strongly recommends
(by not allowing installation with older versions, unless we patch the
build system, which is what we did) the next version of wxwidgets
after what we have, because the version we have is buggy.

Despite my only exposure to wxwidgets being through the Perl bindings,
and only using them since last week, I will be willing to work on this
package in the long term to keep it in shape for Padre.

I can probably help with RC bug fixing, upgrading to new upstream
versions, reviewing and applying patches, fixing trivial bugs,
forwarding/triaging bugs, and keeping the packaging in good shape, but
probably won't be very helpful for anything that requires a lot of
knowledge of wxwidgets, C++, or Python, since I don't know these.

Adeodato, may I start working and commit to the Git repository?

 Subject: Request for adding libio-all-lwp-perl
 To: pkg-perl-maintain...@lists.alioth.debian.org

 Hi all,

I hope this list is the correct list for the request. Ive just started
to play around with IO::All and really like it, however the easy way to
get a filehandle to a webpage is not really doable since IO::All::LWP is
not part of IO::All or available as an extra package.

 http://search.cpan.org/~itub/IO-All-LWP/lib/IO/All/LWP.pm

Would it be possible to add it, please?

Imagine how much work it would be to do this the old-fasioned way:

 use YAML;

Bug#531523: ITP: libjio -- library for journaled I/O

2009-06-01 Thread Ryan Niebur
Package: wnpp

Severity: wishlist
X-Debbugs-CC: debian-de...@lists.debian.org

* Package name: libjio
  Version : 0.50
Upstream Author : Alberto Bertogli (albert...@blitiri.com.ar)
* URL : http://blitiri.com.ar/p/libjio/
* License : Buena Onda License Agreement (v1.0)
  Programming Lang: C
Description : library for journaled I/O

To ensure reliability, some file systems and databases provide support for
something known as journalling. The idea is to ensure data consistency by
creating a log of actions to be taken (called a Write Ahead Log) before
committing them to disk. That way, if a transaction were to fail due to a
system crash or other unexpected event, the write ahead log could be used to
finish writing the data.

While this functionality is often available with networked databases, it can
be a rather memory- and processor-intensive solution, even where reliable
writes are important. In other cases, the filesystem does not provide native
journalling support, so other tricks may be used to ensure data integrity,
such as writing to a separate temporary file and then overwriting the file
instead of modifying it in-place. Unfortunately, this method cannot handle
threaded operations appropriately.

Thankfully, Alberto Bertogli published a userspace C library called libjio
that can provide these features in a small (less than 1500 lines of code)
library with no external dependencies.
