I really think something like ncurses should be team maintained. I'd
also be glad to join any such team, however, I probably won't find any
time to work on that before the end of September.

Hrm … too bad :-/ Do you know of any mirrors that might still exist?

Cool! Looks like you've put quite some work into that. Thanks!

I don't have a strong opinion on that. We use quilt for rrdtool as well,
so go ahead with that if that's your preference.

That sounds like a very good idea but I expect that to be quite some
work. I don't think this has to be finished before doing the next upload
but should rather be improved as time permits. Unfortunately, the
changelog does not mention any of the patches by name but it mentions
that some patch has been introduced for some purpose. Using that
information, it should be possible to get the patch descriptions right.

Hrm … I fully agree that *-config belong into the respective -dev
packages but I also agree that removing some binary from an essential
package might be dangerous. Maybe we should put that on debian-devel?

Sounds good. Should not be that hard.

Agreed.

I'll look into that and see what else I can do.

I'm not in favor of removing upstream changelogs either. We could use a
symlink for that, though, since it's rather big.

That was my idea as well. I hope, I'll find some time to work on the
package next week, once my diploma thesis is done.

Again, thanks for all the work so far!

I suppose, this is not the final version of the description. Anyway, I
think it does not make much sense to base most of the description on a
reference to gitosis but, rather, it should specify what *gitolite*
actually is. In other words: This description would be suitable for
people switching from gitosis to gitolite but it does not include much
useful information for new users.

Sorry, but I've currently lost interest in maintaining "schafkopf" as I
currently have few spare time and quite a few more interesting things
going on. Are you willing to maintain it on your own for now? I might
come back at some time in the future but I cannot promise that - after

collectd is a small daemon written in C for performance. It reads various
system statistics and updates RRD files, creating them if necessary. Since
the daemon doesn't need to startup every time it wants to update the files
it's very fast and easy on the system. Also, the statistics are very fine
grained since the files are updated every 10 seconds.

Looks like you've mixed up ITP (intent to package) and ITA (intent to
adopt). You should instead change the title and owner of bug #535246.
See [1] for documentation how to do that. You can also use a front-end
like bts(1) (command line interface) or (iirc) reportbug-ng (graphical
interface).

So, what you should end up sending to the BTS control interface
(cont...@bugs.debian.org), would be something like this:

retitle 535246 ITA: roxterm -- ...
owner 535246 !
thanks

(Instead of using '!' you can also specify an E-mail address - see [1]
for details.)

Sebastian

I'm interested in helping out with this package and possibly taken over
maintenance if you eventually decide to give it up entirely. However,
I'm pretty short of time currently, so I do not expect to find some /
much time for this until the end of September. So, if anybody else is
interested as well, by all means, don't hesitate to beat me to it. Of
course, I'm also open for team-maintaining the package.

I assume, you've already talked to upstream about that, right? What's
their reason to do so?

Upstreams seems to use two different SONAME versions only - one for all
libraries and one for the plugins. That does not sound right to me on a
first glance. Did you talk to upstream about that? Do you have any
further information?

If that changes at some time in the future, I'm not sure if it'll still
make sense to ship a single libgraphviz4 package only but until then
that sounds perfectly reasonable to me ;-)

Did you talk to any Ubuntu guys about that? Not that I really care much
as long as they do not approach me but I would not want to "destroy"
anything either.

Can this be used as a complete drop-in replacement for ncmpc? In that
case and since ncmpc upstream basically is dead, ncmpcpp could
completely replace ncmpc in Squeeze by providing appropriate transition
packages and symlinks.

What do you think?

The long description should not repeat the short description. Also, it
would be nice if the long description would be a lot more verbose. E.g.
the homepage lists the supported features. Picking out the most
important ones and including them in the description helps a lot to
understand what this library is doing.

Well, why don't you just use an Ubuntu mirror inside the pbuilder chroot? If
you're building Ubuntu package, I'd say that's the way to go...

You might as well add an Ubuntu deb line to your sources.list and pin it to
-1. You can still manually install any package from that source while no
package will be pulled in automatically.

I really don't see any reason to include such packages in Debian.

Imho something like "python-buildutils" would be a more appropriate package
name. Generic names should imho be reserved for (core) system tools and
possibly tools for development in C, as this is the "native" UNIX programming
language.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for your interest and offering your help! To be honest, I'm not
sure about what needs to be done at the moment. The Debian packaging is
currently available in collab-maint, though, so please feel free to do
work in there (and / or send it to me as patches -- whatever your

Co-maintainers would be very welcome, of course.

Great! I'm not convinced about 3.0 (quilt) yet, so I'd prefer not to use

  Programming Lang: C, JavaScript
  Description : web-based front-end for collectd

collection4 (C4 for short) is a web-based graphing front-end for
collectd, the statistics collection and monitoring daemon. It allows to
graph and display the performance data collected by the daemon.

It is designed to efficiently handle large setups (more than 5 data
sets) as well. Also, it strives to allow a flexible customization of the
generated graphs through configuration of the front-end.

For now, the package will be targeted at experimental, since, despite
the version number, this is an initial release that is to be considered
alpha and still in heavy development.

Bug#294389: enblend package

2006-10-04 Thread Sebastian Harl
Hi,

I contacted Andrew Mihal (the upstream author of enblend) and he told me that
he is going to release an updated version of enblend soon. The new version
will use vigra 1.4 which is subject to a license identical to the MIT X11
license (which is GPL and DFSG compatible). Thus any license issues should be
resolved with this release.

I already packaged the current version of enblend (which I will not make
publicly available due to the license issues). I guess an update to the new
version will be fairly easy. Is anyone of you still interested in (team)
maintaining enblend? If I do not get any responses during the next week, I
will assume that nobody else is interested any more and upload the package
as soon as the updated package is done.

Cheers,
Sebastian

PS: Sorry for filing another ITP. For whatever reason I did find Baruch's ITP

No, unfortunately not yet. enblend requires some modifications that did not
make it into the official vigra release yet.

Well, I did not ask for help. I just did not want to take this package away
from anybody else interested in maintaining it :-)

If you want this software to be packaged, you should include a short
description as well as a link to some more information and a download place.

Cheers,
Sebastian

PS: I'm not interested in packaging this...

There have been license problems prior to version 3.0. I will check the new
version tomorrow.

Thanks for the hint - I haven't looked for updates for a couple of days.

Bug#410669: ITP: pfstools -- set of command line programs for editing HDR images

2007-02-12 Thread Sebastian Harl
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Sebastian Harl <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

* Package name: pfstools
  Upstream Author : Grzegorz Krawczyk <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Rafal Mantiuk <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://www.mpi-inf.mpg.de/resources/pfstools/
* License : LGPL
  Description : set of command line programs for editing HDR images

 pfstools package is a set of command line (and one GUI) programs for reading,
 writing, manipulating and viewing high-dynamic range (HDR) images and video
 frames. All programs in the package exchange data using a simple generic file
 format (pfs) for HDR data. The concept of the pfstools is similar to netpbm
 package for low-dynamic range images.

 pfstools come with a library for reading and writing pfs files. The library
 can be used for writing custom applications that can integrate with the
 existing pfstools programs.

 pfstools offers also a good integration with a high-level mathematical
 programming language GNU Octave. pfstools can be used as the extension of
 Octave for reading and writing HDR images or simply to store effectively large
 matrices.

 Note that pfs in not just another format for storing HDR images (and there are
 already quite a few of them). It is more an attempt to integrate the existing
 file formats by providing a simple data format that can be used to exchange
 data between applications.

The long description has been extracted from the homepage. I guess it will
improve before uploading the package.

Cheers,
Sebastian

Bug#411454: ITP: pfstmo -- set of tone mapping operators

* Package name: pfstmo
  Upstream Author : Grzegorz Krawczyk <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://www.mpi-inf.mpg.de/resources/tmo/
* License : GPL
  Description : set of tone mapping operators

 pfstmo package contains the implementation of state-of-the-art tone mapping
 operators. The motivation here is to provide an implementation of tone mapping
 operators suitable for convenient processing of both static images and
 animations.

 The operators are embedded in a flexible framework [pfstools] which provides a
 unified input/output mechanism and a modular architecture for the filtering of
 the image data. Various file formats for static images and video are
 transparently supported and the High Dynamic Range data are processed
 modularly through a Unix piping mechanism.

The long description has been copied from the homepage and will probably be
improved before upload.

Please note that version 3.x is basically a complete rewrite and
incompatible to version 2. The latter is still widely in use by projects
like PNP4Nagios and Ninja (a Nagios frontend). This is not going to
change any time soon because of the large amount of work required for
porting to 3.x.

We are going to package Kohana 2 as "libkohana2-php" (see #611240). In
case you are going to package Kohana 3 you might stick to that naming
scheme as well and call your package "libkohana3-php".

Bug#616294: ITP: nagixsc -- flexible transport agent for Nagios/Icinga check results

2011-03-03 Thread Sebastian Harl
Package: wnpp

Owner: Sebastian Harl

* Package name: nagixsc
  Version : Git snapshot
  Upstream Author : Sven Velt
* URL : http://oss.teamix.org/projects/nagixsc
* License : GPLv2+
  Programming Lang: Python
  Description : flexible transport agent for Nagios/Icinga check results

 Nag(ix)SC is a replacement for NRPE (Nagios Remote Plugin Executor) and NSCA
 (Nagios Service Check Acceptor) supporting multiple transport mechanisms like
 HTTP(S), SSH, rsync, or whatever you like. It may be used to execute Nagios/
 Icinga plugins on a remote host or to send service check results to a central
 monitoring server.
 .
 Nag(ix)SC includes simple HTTP server implementations to send and receive
 check results and execute plugins. HTTP is the preferred way to transfer the
 generated data because of the following benefits:
  * simple protocol with many existing support tools (e.g. curl) and
  * libraries
for basically any programming and scripting language
  * support for relaying/forwarding through (reverse-)proxies
  * support for authorization and authentication
  * support for encryption (HTTPS)
  * filtering possibilities
 .
 Nagios/Icinga are monitoring and management systems for hosts, services and
 networks.

This software will be packaged in the pkg-nagios team.
