Bug#696582: ITP: meritous -- action-adventure dungeon crawl game

Description : action-adventure dungeon crawl game

Long description:
Far below the surface of the planet is a secret. A place of limitless
power. Those that seek to control such a utopia will soon bring an end
to themselves. Seeking an end to the troubles that plague him, PSI
user MERIT journeys into the hallowed Orcus Dome in search of answers.
 .
Mertious is a action-adventure game with simple controls but a
challenge to find a balance of power verses recovery time during
real-time battles. Set in a fractually-generated world, the player
can explore thousands of rooms in search of powerful artifacts, tools
to help them, and to eventually free the Orcus Dome from evil.

This is actually a re-upload.
I'm part of the Debian Games team and noticed #672759:
RM: meritous -- RoQA; FTBFS; unmaintained; low popcon
  RoQA; FTBFS; unmaintained; low popcon

I'm adressing these points below:

- RoQA/unmaintained: I'll assume that the original packager (sponsored
by tolimar back in 2008) was contacted and is now unresponsive, so
  I'm taking over.
In addition, the game wasn't part of the games team AFAICT and fell
  off our radar.

- FTBFS: just a missing build-dep on zlib

- low popcon: consider this is a game and that people tend to
uninstall them after beating it; other games such as flare or abuse
  are in this range (100-200).
Not that popularity means quality ;)

The game is otherwise finished and, despite the removal of
unfree/unclear music, quite enoyable.

Bug#619602: RFP: theunarchiver -- archive extractor with built-in support for multiple formats

2011-03-25 Thread Sylvain Beucler
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: theunarchiver
  Version : 2.6
Upstream Author : Dag Ågren paracel...@gmail.com
* URL : http://wakaba.c3.cx/s/apps/unarchiver.html
* License : LGPL
  Programming Lang: Objective C
Description : archive extractor with built-in support for multiple formats

The Unarchiver extracts archives in Zip, Tar-GZip, Tar-BZip2, RAR,
7-zip, LhA, StuffIt and many other old and obscure formats.

In particular it supports extracting RAR v3 archive using a completely
free, LGPL'd implementation (while other archive managers usually rely
on the non-free library from the RAR authors).

It provides two commands:
* lsar to list an archive content
* unar to extract the archive

The webpage provide this set of instructions to build the package,
which works for me under Debian Squeeze:

  sudo apt-get install build-essential libgnustep-base-dev libz-dev libbz2-dev
libssl-dev libicu-dev
  cd XADMaster
  make -f Makefile.linux

I didn't try to build the GUI portion, which is aimed at OS X.

The package contains an unused copy of the proprietary unrar library
(in the BadLicense/ directory), which should be removed before
packaging. The free code is in XADMaster/XADRAR* .

REminiscence is a rewrite of the engine used in the game Flashback
from Delphine Software. This program is designed as a cross-platform
replacement for the original executable and uses the SDL library.

  sources url: http://cyxdown.free.fr/reminiscence/

... It needs the data files from the original Flashback game.

I have done some work on the package in the pkg-games Subversion
 repository:
 http://svn.debian.org/viewsvn/pkg-games/packages/trunk/reminiscence/

I don't mind taking it further, finishing the package and uploading.
Any objections if I move the packaging to Git (still under pkg-games
 umbrella)?

Hi,

I wonder if Debian needs an unmaintained (last version 3y) engine
that requires non-free data?

Description : old-school first person shooter

Cytadela is a conversion of an old Amiga first person shooter. The
original was created in mid 1990's by Virtual Design, and released
firstly in Poland and then in other countries.

This is a single player game in which the player fights against AI
enemies. The goal of the game is to find six bomb parts with which
the Citadel has to be blown up. To achieve it, the player not only
has to defend himsefl against the enemies, but (s)he also has to
solve many riddles, such as switching apropriate buttons in order to
open some door, move some walls, etc.

As a conversion, this project tries to be as similar to the original
as possible and therefore there won't be any significant changes,
only some gameplay improvements are possible.

This version is fully playable and beatable, but the introduction and
ending sequences are not developed yet (they are planned for v1.0).

  Description : interactive fiction player

Gargoyle is an Interactive Fiction (text adventure) player that
supports all the major interactive fiction formats.

Most interactive fiction is distributed as portable game files. These
portable game files come in many formats. In the past, you used to
have to download a separate player (interpreter) for each format of IF
you wanted to play. Gargoyle is based on the standard interpreters for
the formats it supports.

This version of gargoyle does not include the non-free Alan and Hugo
interpreter, and use a different, free monospace font.

Bug#492760: ITP: freedink -- A portable version of the Dink Smallwood game engine.

2008-08-10 Thread Sylvain Beucler
owner 492760 !

As there's no reply I reassign the bug to myself :)
(Feel free to contact if you want to help.)

The current version of the Debian package can be found here:
http://www.freedink.org/snapshots/debian/
(based on snapshots)

There's progress with releasing other game data under a free
license. I'm in contact with Seth A. Robinson from RTsoft atm.

I think we could plan a first upload to experimental if this works
out.

There isn't a release yet, hence why I didn't mention it.

or I shall create some simple data files myself under a free

Currently we know for sure that the sound and MIDIs aren't free (and
not owned by RTsoft). Help with replacing them would be greatly
appreciated (such as sound of fire burning in a chimney, sound of
 gold coins, etc.).
