Package name: htbgen

Upstream Author: Luciano Ruete
URL: http://www.praga.org.ar/wacko/DevPraga/htbgen
License: GPL2+
Description: Simple and effective home/small/medium ISP bandwidth solution
.
htb-gen is meant to be an easy, scalable and yet powerfull bandwidth
management tool.
.
You can set limits on up/down rates from the bandwidth budget for each
host or network that goes trough your router/firewall.
.
Priorized traffic (web, mail, gaming, ftp, voip, streaming) is
preferred over Junk traffic (kazaa, emule, etc). Dynamic
bandwith borrow and re-assignation is done between host thanks to
HTB boundaries.
.
Due to htb-gen being based into bash-like scriping, and then nature of
HTB to classify and inject traffic into the network, the capability of
getting it embedding into router/firewalls is an awesome feature, even into
boxes with extremely low resources, in contrast to other class-based
queueing algorithms, like Qdisc and others.
.
Side note, the packet clasification is done by iptables

Hi there!

As Vern requested about 6 months ago, and given the fact that nobody
opposed, this ITP will be taken and uploaded a possible package in a
month time.

Vern and I have been working on this software for some time,
particularly him, and he've done a great job with it. As for me, I had
to face a non-DFSG compatible icon set.
Fortunately, and besides the negative of Tango-Project (icon-set
designers) to relicense them (which was the center of my efforts at
first), I found a _great_ predisposition at a Vidalia developer,
MatthewEdman, who not only accepted my suggestion, he "promised" me
he'll replace from upstream-side those icons to a set of GPL'ed ones.
Many thanks edmanm!

Greetings,

Hi,

I'm afraid this package, by today, as is too heavily under
development, and although it releases alphas very frequently, it's
much more unstable than what SID could stand for.
I saw from a very quick look above the application, that the
gnome-configuration stuff needs to be highly debian-repoliced.
In any case, it does more or less what 'galternatives' and
'configure-debian' does, not big deal.

I recommend this package to wait until a more stable release to be

Thanks for answering so soon, Hendrik!

I agree 100% with you, there's no sense in risking everyone with a no
longer maintained soft, I didn't even known this fork existed.

Fortunately it's in heavy development, and, as you mentioned, It's
indeed released on 1.0 RC2.

I'm giving it a try, and I'm proposing it being packaged. Volunteers? :-)

Therefore, I think there's not sense in keeping this two bugs open. I'm
 closing this.

Hi Robert!

Unfortunatelly, the actual state of this packaging is useless (it's
not packaged up to the last release) and broken (the main package
depends on one it's not provided).

I would really like to have this useful software in Debian official
repositories, even If I have to do it, which would be difficult,
'cause I don't know a bit of perl :-).

Greetings,

Dererk
