Bug#1036637: RFP: plio - "Pleasant Image Order", image viewer with many sort options

2023-05-23 Thread Oliver Bandel
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

Package name: plio
Upstream Author: Oliver Bandel
URL: https://codeberg.org/klartext/plio
License: GPL-3.0-or-later

Description: image viewer with many sort options and bulk renaming

  Programming Language: C
  Used libraries: SDL2, FreeImage, System-Libs

PLIO is an image viewer that allows images to be sorted by many
properties. Default sorting is name, but width, height, size, aspect ratio,
modification time, brightness, color are possible also.

After sorting, bulk renaming images is possible and easy (press 'r').
The new filenames reflect the order that was established by the
sorting (integer index value prepended to basename).
In case of sort-by-modification-time, the epoch with subseconds instead of
the index number is prepended. (Using Index number is also possible - with
  two keystrokes.)

Arbitrarily reordering of the images can also be done.
(switch x-pos, switch y-pos, move current image to index position 0.)

The images of a directory are represented as thumbnails in a 2D array
  (like sxiv does it).
Additionally, directories are also represented by a thumbnail.
The Image-View currently supports only fit-to-window, but more options might
  be added later.
Navigation in x- and y-direction is possible not only in thumbview,
but also while viewing the images. Moving in y-direction allows
skimming through a huge collection of images quickly.

So far all commands are given as keyboard-strokes.
plio works best with tiling window managers, but intended usage is
  fullscreen mode anyway.

The bulk-renaming allows the images to be renamed, so that the
  filenames reflect the order.
Using other image viewers or working on the shell with the images
can then be done, even when only listing by name.

No database is used; thumb caching might be added later,
but it is intended also in the future not to be dependent on
  databases.

Cheers,
  Oliver Bandel

Bug#1035930: ITP: justbuild -- Justbuild generic build system

2023-05-11 Thread Oliver Reiche

* Package name: justbuild

  Upstream Author : Oliver Reiche
* URL : https://github.com/just-buildsystem/justbuild
* License : Apache-2.0
  Programming Lang: C++, Python
Description : Justbuild generic build system

Justbuild is a generic build system supporting multi-repository builds.
A peculiarity of the tool is the separation between global names and
physical location on the one hand, and logical paths used for actions
and installation on the other hand (sometimes referred to as "staging").
The language-specific information to translate high-level concepts
(libraries, binaries) into individual compile action is taken from
user-defined rules described by functional expressions.

Justbuild is a build tool that shares similarities with Bazel and Buck2.
Our main focus is on reproducible builds. We deeply integrated git in
Justbuild to benefit from a-priori computed hashes of git repositories.
Furthermore, Justbuild can spawn an execution service that can also be
used as a single-node remote execution server for other build systems
supporting the same remote execution protocol, such as Bazel and Buck2.

We plan to actively maintain this package but are currently looking for
a sponsor.

I intend to adopt the storebackup package.

I still created a package at mentors.debian.net, including the newest
upstream version and closing some bugs. Maybe there's someone out there
who wants to review and sponsor it. Oh, btw... I could need a mentor in
order to become a DM (or DD) someday :)

The source package is downloadable at
https://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/s/storebackup/storebackup_3.5-2.dsc

The package description is:
Copies directory hierarchies recursively into another location,
 by date (e.g.  /home/ => /var/bkup/2002.12.13_04.27.56/).
Permissions are preserved, so users with access to the backup
directory can recover their files themselves.
 .
File comparisons are done with MD5 checksums, so no changes go
 unnoticed.
 .
Hard-links unchanged backuped files to old versions and
identical files within the backuped tree.
 .
Compresses large files (that don't match exclusion patterns).

Bug#800153: ITP: octave-interval -- real-valued interval arithmetic for Octave

2015-09-27 Thread Oliver Heimlich
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Oliver Heimlich

* Package name: octave-interval
  Version : 1.1.0
  Upstream Author : Oliver Heimlich
* URL : http://octave.sourceforge.net/interval/
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: Octave, C++
Description : real-valued interval arithmetic for Octave

The interval package for real-valued interval arithmetic allows to evaluate
functions over subsets of their domain. All results are verified, because
interval computations automatically keep track of any errors. These concepts
can be used to handle uncertainties, estimate arithmetic errors and produce
reliable results. Also it can be applied to computer-assisted proofs,
constraint programming, and verified computing. The implementation is based on
interval boundaries represented by binary64 numbers and is conforming to IEEE
Std 1788-2015, IEEE standard for interval arithmetic.

The package will be maintained by the DebianOctaveGroup and, upstream, by the
Octave Forge Community. The package is a reference implementation of the
recently published IEEE standard for interval arithmetic. It may be used as a
free replacement for the proprietary INTLAB toolbox. The latter has been widely
used in education for computer arithmetic, for example in the book
“Introduction to Interval Analysis” (2009) by Ramon E. Moore, R. Baker
Kearfott, and Michael J. Cloud.

In contrast to libmpfi and python-mpmath this package provides more
functionality, but is limited to the binary64 data type.

Some efforts to package have already been made, see
http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/pkg-octave/octave-interval.git/

I know for sure that this was in fact done. When Ullrich started with cc65
he used CVS and he was the only one to commit. Only after the switch to SVN
there was a group of contributors allowed to commit themselves.

At least sometimes Ullich mentioned the name of the author of the patch in
the commit log. I'd say only he knows if he did it always.

This seems to be yet another misunderstanding :-(

I don't see myself in the driver seat of this overall effort. If I would

Iff everything else is settled regarding packaging (incl. licensing) I'll
reach out to the list members and ask for last-minute contribtions. If that
phase is over I'll add a tag to the Git repo.

If possible update the file LICENSE as well to be zlib

There must be a misunderstanding!

I made a statement about _my_ contributions to cc65. I don't know who else
has contributed to cc65 before I started to maintain the upstream repo. In
fact I personally don't see how an exhaustive list of contributors can be
archived. And without acknowledgement from _all_ contributors I don't see
me changing _anything_ regarding the file LICENSE.

Oliver

Bug#691199: RFA: ksh -- Real, AT&T version of the Korn shell

2012-10-22 Thread Oliver Kiddle
Package: wnpp

I'd be grateful if someone could take over. I'd be happy to help by
answering questions etc.

Despite my sponsor having been really helpful with this package it doesn't
seem fair to continue to go through him or the most efficient for that
matter. I think the package would benefit from someone more involved
with Debian. Certain annoyances with the Debian project coupled with
the fact that I now only use Debian stable (on ARM) are also behind my
decision to put the package up for adoption.

It'd be especially good to have someone interested in using this as the
basis for packaging the full ast-open set of software.

Thanks

Oliver Kiddle

Bug#569040: build of webkitimageqt on amd64

2010-05-20 Thread Oliver Kiddle
I tried rebuilding from source because I have an amd64 system.

You're missing a build dependency on libqt4-dev which it needs for moc-qt4.

With that installed, it build and installed on amd64.

Still can't get the WMS plugin to work though - just red boxes
containing "Exception occurred". What do you put in WMS Plugin
Preferences, I only have landsat at
http://onearth.jpl.nasa.gov/wms.cgi?request=GetMap&layers=global_mosaic&styles=&format=image/jpeg&;
and that doesn't work. What's the URL for yahoo?

Thanks

Bug#515431: ITA: povray -- Persistence of vision raytracer (3D renderer)

2010-03-22 Thread Oliver Korff
Hi,

My intention was to keep povray in the distribution, because I liked the
software itself. But I
now have make the conclusion, that packaging it is not the thing I would like
to do anymore.

* First: I didn't read the license as careful as Raphael. I really hate not to
be able to package
the beta for experimental. (I had already started...)

* Second I have had a glance into the projects Mailings and Mailinglist and I
dislike the spirit,
that is spread by the main developer(s). I do not see that any debian related
task would get a help
of upstream.

That is my personal opinion and migt be wrong. But because of this I will give
up in taking over
the packaging.

Sorry,

Oliver

2010-03-06 Thread Oliver Korff
Hi Torsten,

I do not have any problems regarding the licence. But as you have had
a deeper look into the package, do you see any other things, that might be
difficult.

I plan to solve the bashism problems soon and remove the lintian warnings.
The next thing is to make povray available to the kfreebsd arch. Another
step might be to package povray 3.7.betaXX for experimental.

Oliver

Bug#544911: gnome-chess -- chess client for the GNOME desktop environment

2010-01-24 Thread Oliver Korff
I will soon retitle this bug to "o: gnome-chess...", this is what the games
group intended. Reasons:

- There are 9 bugs against that package, 1 important. The others are more or
less also urgent.
- There are similar packages in the distribution, that do the same work eg:
scid, eboard, pychess
- The person that did the ITA did not do so in 3 Months. Carlos Eduardo Sotelo
Pinto
- Latest upstream release was 05-Nov-2006
http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sources/gnome-chess/0.4/

QA can then decide, what to do about this bug.

Am Saturday 30 May 2009 11:22:06 schrieb Sandro Tosi:
> Please both of you find an agreement who'll be the new maintainer;

Dear Willem,

I hope this will be no problem. I know that you work at a debian package from
the scid users list. I would be happy to co-maintain this package. And I
think, even if not so many people will use it, it can be of some work. Just
think of writing manpages for all the scripts... ;o)

I have looked at the pages of alioth.debian.org and came to know that there is
already a project at: https://alioth.debian.org/projects/pkg-scid/

I would prefer to do it this way:
We hijack that project, and it will become the new maintainer for scid. And we
both become "uploaders". If you have any other idea, let me know.

You can find my packages at:
http://oko00.hostsharing.net/debian/unofficial/scid
Please take a look at them. I would also like to have a look at your package,
Maybe you have a download link for me.

Also I would like to release scid in CVS Versions to keep up with development.
As far as I know Pascal Georges and Alexander Wagner, the main Upstream
manager, will help us to keep it bug-free and if it comes to debian releases
we will see. In other packaging matters I am totally open to any
suggestions / Your ideas.

Best regards,

Oliver

Bug#514327: RFP: openfoam -- OpenFOAM-1.5 debian package

2009-02-10 Thread Oliver Borm
Thank's for this information. On which upstream release relies FreeFoam?
Do you also apply all patches from the 1.5.X git from OpenCFD?

In general, I would say, that the build system from FreeFoam with cmake
should be better than wmake. It sounds really impressive what you are
doing or have done in the past. But to really get benefit from your
work, you had to persuade OpenCFD Ltd. and Wikki Ltd. that FreeFoam with
cmake is the better build environment than wmake. I think Michael has
done such attempt already in the past
(http://openfoam.cfd-online.com/forum/messages/1/10610.html?1232610557).
Otherwise all your work is valueless or has to be done twice, if a new
upstream release is published. Or is the conversion from standard
OpenFOAM to FreeFoam 100% automatic?

My personal minimal setup on OpenFOAM environment variables are:

export
PATH=/usr/lib/OpenFOAM-1.5/bin:/usr/lib/OpenFOAM-1.5/applications/bin:${PATH}
export
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/OpenFOAM-1.5/lib/openmpi:/usr/lib/OpenFOAM-1.5/lib:${LD_LIBRARY_PATH}
export WM_PROJECT_INST_DIR=
export WM_PROJECT_DIR=/usr/lib/OpenFOAM-1.5

The first two are ok, but I don't know why OpenFOAM needs the last two.
If they are not set, I got an segmentation fault. Furthermore you should
install all header files into /usr/include/FreeFoam. So that the user
can link against the {Free,Open}Foam libraries and build his own
Top-Level solver, utility or additional library.

Bug#434532: ITP: netdisco -- Web-based network management tool

Owner: Oliver Gorwits <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

* Package name: netdisco
  Version : 0.95
Upstream Author : Eric Miller, Bill Fenner and Max Baker <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://www.netdisco.org/
* License : Perl/Artistic
  Programming Lang: Perl
Description : Web-based network management tool

NetDisco is designed for moderate to large networks, configuration information
and connection data for network devices are retrieved and set by SNMP. With
Netdisco you can locate the switch port of an end-user system by IP or MAC
address. Data is stored using a SQL database for scalability and speed.

Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP), Foundry Discovery Protocol (FDP), Link Layer
Discovery Protocol (LLDP), and SynOptics Network Management Protocol (SONMP)
optionally provide automatic discovery of the network topology.

The network is inventoried by both device model and operating system (such as
IOS). Netdisco uses router ARP tables and L2 switch MAC forwarding tables to
locate nodes on physical ports and track them by their IP addresses.

For each node, a time stamped history of the ports it has visited and the IP
addresses it has used is maintained. Netdisco gets all its data, including
topology information, with SNMP polls and DNS queries. It does not use CLI
access and has no need for privilege passwords. Security features include a
wire-side Wireless Access Point (AP) locator.

Netdisco was created at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC),
Networking and Technology Services (NTS) department. UCSC continues to support
the development of Netdisco by providing development servers and financial
support. The Netdisco project is hosted by Source Forge.

Bug#434518: ITP: libsnmp-info-perl -- OO interface to network devices and MIBs through SNMP

Description : OO interface to network devices and MIBs through SNMP

SNMP::Info gives an object oriented interface to information obtained through
SNMP. This module is geared towards network devices; subclasses exist for a
number of network devices and common MIBs.

The idea is to give a common interface to data from network devices, leaving
the device-specific hacks behind the scenes in subclasses. The information may
be coming from any number of MIB files and is often vendor specific. SNMP::Info
provides a common API for all supported devices. Adding support for your own
device is easy, and takes little SNMP knowledge. The module is not limited to
network devices. Any MIB or device can be given an objected oriented front-end
by making a module that consists of a couple hashes.

This module was originally written in support of the NetDisco project.

This is a very strong chess engine, finished 4th place at internatonal

you will have to use an UCI capable interface, like knights. Or an

Given that you (Wolfgang) don't seem interested in packaging it at the
moment, I'll take another look at it once 0.5 is released. 0.5 is a
significant reorganisation so will affect the Debian packaging so
packaging 0.4 probably doesn't make sense.

What you say about xmlroff's current state is true. At the moment,
packaging it is likely to help xmlroff more than Debian but xmlroff
could do with some help.

I was working on it. I had a package before the structure got
rearranged with pangoxsl becoming part of the same package. The manpage
I wrote has been accepted upstream. I was just about to look at the new
release and was going to decline your request but my PC died last
night. It's probably just the power supply but I don't know yet.
Anyway, if you'd like to package xmlroff, go ahead. Please let me know
how you progress and I'll be happy to have a look at any initial
package you produce. And if you change your mind, let me know and I'll
get a package ready just as soon as my PC is working again.

like writing a manpage to be done first.

If there is any interest in sfio, let me know. It would be best handled
as part of the same package as ksh. Ksh (also from AT&T) uses sfio and
the source is largely distributed as a single tarball. Being a new
maintainer, I wanted to keep things simple by just packaging ksh but all
the AT&T utilities (such as nmake etc) could be built from one source
package.

2005-08-23 Thread Oliver Korff
Thanks for all the good advice, I will be more descriptive with the "short"
and "long" description, as I see that this is really necessary.

And I will be more careful while using reportbug, because I don't want to
bother people with ""Fruit is ..., Fruit is ..., Fruit is..." -- sorry

Where I don't agree is changing the package name. fruit is the name of the
original package and I don't see the point in changing that. We have
"orange, plum and apple2" in debian and nobody complains, because fruits ;)
are not to be mixed up with real fruits in computer language.

Thanks again for taking care,

oliver

P.S.: knights is in sid, and I have a package ready for polyglot, which you
can use to connect xboard and scid

wow, thats nice !!

why is there no info on the ITP bug about them ? i woldnt even have
started to package them if i knew about that ;) indeed its my biggest
interest (as the one of every ubuntu maintainer) not to move to far away
from debian and do the work twice ;)

we're also moving towards php5 for breezy so i can probably provide some
patches aginst them if debian does this move too in the future.

thanks again...

Hello,

I have written a fine tool and think it is good enough
and useful enough for many people so that it makes sense
to have it in the debian-distribution.

I never before had maintained a debian-package.

Who decides which tool will be integrated into the ditribution?
And what work must be done for the tool to be integrated into

Description : The real AT&T Korn shell

The latest version of AT&T Software Technology's (David Korn's) ksh
has changed licence and now goes under the CPL (previous licence had a
few issues).

The KornShell is a UNIX command interpreter (shell). This version is a
much newer version of the ksh distributed with common commericial Unix
variants (ksh88) and also newer than the original 1993 version. It
primarily adds powerful features for scripting such as compound
variables, static scoping, associative arrays and namespaces.

The licence change also applies to the other software in the ast-base
distribution if there is interest in them.

TuxRacer upstream is dead, dead, dead. I'm really happy that somebody
has picked up development. Somebody has filed a wishlist bug against
tuxracer to replace it with pp-racer (s. #281596). I'm glad that you've
ITPed. Once your package has entered the archive and the initial bugs
have been shaken off, we should think of some migration strategy for
current tuxracer users, like removing tuxracer from the archive and
creating a dummy package that depends on pp-racer.

Possibly - but there is perhaps a difference between files needed so
that a program can link in libpq3.so or libecpg.so and those needed
because the program expects to build in the postgresql source tree and
needs to be tightly linked in with a particular PostgreSQL version. I
think I will wait to see just which files are needed before I decide.

Yes. However, I am waiting for some information from upstream. As it
stands,Slony-I needs the postgresql source tree to build with, so it
cannot be packaged except by incorporating it into postgresql. I don't
want to do that, since we spent some effort in getting rid of extraneous
packages.

What I intend is to make a postgresql binary package of files needed for
products like Slony-I to build. I hope to receive the list of necessary

Ironically, its licence is currently not DFSG compatible, since he wants
to keep control of large print runs; for now it would have to go in
non-free. He says he may release it to public domain after a year or
so; once he does that it would be free, but since it is just text, why
would it need to be packaged, rather than read from where it is?

In the debian bug tracking system there is a bug open, because linuxlogo was
orphaned. I retitled the bug that I wanted to package linuxlogo. This is the
usual way to claim the "right" to package it. The maintainer who filed this
bug also mentioned that he knows that you wanted to package it. After a few
days there was still no "ITA" (intend to adopt) the package from you. So I
did it.

Now we have the situation, that I claimed rights for it, but you have already
a package.

So I suggest, that you retitle the bug again! And go on packaging it. But I
will be watching and take over, if there is no package in the near future.

Is this OK? Please tell me your plans!

Hm...

nimrod:~# ls -l /usr/bin/picocom
-rwxr-xr-x1 root root22712 Jan 20 03:10 /usr/bin/picocom
nimrod:~# ls -l /usr/bin/minicom
-rwxr-xr-x1 root root 166328 Nov 12 10:22 /usr/bin/minicom
nimrod:~#

If that is not enough: I have much less problems with picocom than I
have with minicom. I can give the port to use on the cmd line:
picocom /dev/ttyS0
which is much more intuitive for me than modifying the minicom
configuration (maybe you can do that with minicom, but I haven't yet
figured out how - so far I always relinked /dev/modem).

Also, I am using Debian on a small PowerPC device with 64MB flash, so
every byte is a crucial ressource there. And I do not need any nifty
curses interface.

picocom does exactly what I want: connect to a serial port. And nothing
more.

Oliver

Bug#229346: RFA: smarteiffel -- The GNU Eiffel compiler

2004-01-24 Thread Oliver Elphick
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I have not got time to deal with it, so...
I request an adopter for the smarteiffel package (formerly called smalleiffel).
The package description is:
GNU compiler and associated tools for the Eiffel object-oriented language.
 .
SmartEiffel is an Eiffel compiler for the Eiffel language defined
by Bertrand Meyer. SmartEiffel is the GNU Eiffel Compiler. SmartEiffel also
features many Eiffel tools and a very large library of classes: collections,
dictionaries, linked lists, sets and many other data structures, portable
input output facilities, iterators, number computation, sorting, etc.
 .
Eiffel provides a strongly typed, compiled language, supporting multiple
inheritance and design by contract. For further information, see
 http://smarteiffel.loria.fr/ and http://www.eiffel.com

There are RC bugs relating to building the package on some architectures;
these really need to be sorted out and I've got too much to do with the
PostgreSQL package and the rest of life.

Description needs some work. First, you need a one line description
like:

Description: GUI glossary and dictionary consultation

Followed by a space-indented long description:

 This is my description.
 .
This is more of my description following a blank line.

* URL : http://www.stud.uni-hamburg.de/~lennart/projects/libdaemon/

Description : leightweight C library for daemons

libdaemon is a leightweight C library which eases the writing of UNIX
daemons. It consists of the following parts:
 * A wrapper around fork() which does the correct daemonization
   procedure of a process
 * A wrapper around syslog() for simpler and compatible log output to
   Syslog or STDERR
 * An API for writing PID files
 * An API for serializing UNIX signals into a pipe for usage with
   select() or poll()

Routines like these are included in most of the daemon software
available. It is not that simple to get it done right and code
   duplication cannot be a goal.

The new version of ifplugd depends on this library, that's why it is
needed.

  Description : remote modem utilities

The package consists of three programs, which I will package

Package: ttyd
Description: Remote Modem Utility for Unix
The ttyd daemon is fully telnet compatible allowing
programs to connect to any remote device such as
networked modems and terminal servers as if they were
local devices as long as the device utilizes the telnet
protocol, eg. another host running termnetd or a
 console access server.

Package: termnetd
Description: Terminal Server daemon
This daemon allows telnet sessions to be established
with a unit's serial ports. This is particularly useful
if you want to give access to a local serial port to
 another host which runs ttyd.

Package: termnet

This package is a simple telnet replacement. It does

Description : C++ library for connecting to a PostgreSQL database

"There are many similar libraries for PostgreSQL and for other databases, some
of them database-independent. Most of these, however, are fairly C-like in
their programming style, and fail to take advantage of the full power of the
C++language as it has matured since the acceptance of the Standard in 1996.
What
libpqxx brings you is effective use of templates to reduce the inconvenience of
dealing with type conversions; of standard C++ strings to keep you from having
to worry about buffer allocation and overflow attacks; of exceptions to take
the tedious and error-prone plumbing around error handling out of your hands;
of constructors and destructors to bring resource management under control; and
even basic object-orientation to give you some extra reliability features that
would be hard to get with most other database interfaces.

This package requires PostgreSQL to be installed--including the C headers for
client development. The library builds on top of PostgreSQL's standard C API,
libpq."

The existing C++ interface for PostgreSQL is poorly supported and will be
superseded by this package. I will retain the existing library for the
benefit of anyone who is already using it, but new C++ development with
PostgreSQL should use this library.

Description : simple XML to man converter

xml2man and xmlman2html are two small scripts to convert xml to man
pages in groff format or html. It features the usual man page items such a
"synopsis", "description", "options", "see also" etc.

The html version also features hyperlinks to other man pages, if present.

I use these scripts internally for my packages, and found them very useful.
You can see examples when you use the URL.

I originally called the package xml2man, but then found that there already
exists such a binary in kdelibs3.

Greetings,
Oliver

Description : configuration daemon for ethernet devices

ifplugd is a daemon which will automatically configure your
ethernet device when a cable is plugged in and automatically
unconfigure it if the cable is pulled. This is useful on laptops with
onboard network adapters, since it will only configure the interface
when a cable is really connected.
