Bug#235632: O: libffm -- Fast math library routines for DEC Alpha

2004-03-01 Thread Martin Michlmayr
* tbm [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2004-03-01 16:20]:
The current maintainer of libffm, Christopher C. Chimelis
[EMAIL PROTECTED], is apparently not active anymore. Therefore, I
orphan this package now. If you want to be the new maintainer, please

Description: Fast math library routines for DEC Alpha
Libffm is an optimized not-quite-replacement for libm on Alphas to replace
  some rather slow libm routines.

Falk, does this package still have performance advantages on Alpha?
Are you interested in maintaining it or do you know another Alpha
person interested in it?

By the way, do you know why? He used to be a very active developer,
and then disappeared...

I suppose so. However, it is optimized for the ev5, I don't know how
well it does on ev6.

Hm, I've never really used it, I'll think about it. Right now I don't
really have time for a few weeks, anyway... (finishing diploma)

On a related note, when I asked, somebody at DEC^WCompaq^WHP (George
France) said it wouldn't be totally impossible to make some of the
Tru64 system libraries (libots) free software, and he would ask
about it. That would be cool, since it contains highly optimized
assembly routines and might make libffm redundant. Last time I asked
him about progress I didn't get a reply, though. Just thought I'd
mention it in case you meet somebody from HP... ;-)

I'll see if Bdale has any good contacts.
