These files are not very compressible, when using normal compressors like gzip or bzip2. The package contains two programs, which converts the pfb files into an t1c file, which can be shrinked to half of its original size. The other program does the reconvert. This might be very useful, when packaging the software and will be used by cm-super. I'll contact the author about clarifying the license issue.
