They are written in php with the goal to solve common web development problems. They form the base of the Symfony full-stack web framework. Currently only a few components of the currently 28 available ones are packaged for Debian. This is a new approach to have all the components in Debian and maintain them as a whole (under the umbrella of PHP PEAR Maintainers).
