Alternatives should only be used if they provide the same interface (like command line parameters) for the same job. This does not seem to be the case. sinfo in SLURM gives information about the host states, such as allocation. This is only information about the host state inside of the SLURM resource manager, not a performance monitor of host resources like CPU or memory. (Which is what the ANT sinfo shows, AFAIU. I have not looked deeply into it yet, but it's a very interesting package. :)) > In the mean time until this is sorted out, I'll rename the binaries to > sinfo-ant. That would be good. I personally do not have a better solution at hand, maybe Gennaro know one. I do not know if you're interested to join the Debian Scientific Computing Team (pkg-scicomp on Alioth) but I think sinfo-ant would fit into that scope. I'll write to the upstream author about the nameing conflict. The best way to go would be to rename the upstream package. What's the purpose of the sinfo binary in the slurm-llnl package? If it has the same or a very similar purpose and interface, an alternative would be another possibility. In the mean time until this is sorted out, I'll rename the binaries to sinfo-ant. Hi, I do agree with Manuel objections. Maybe you can call it ant-sinfo, from the name of the laboratory where the tool is developed. Bug#547350: ITP: sinfo -- Monitoring tool for computer clusters using broadcasts
Hi Gaudenz! As it seems, the executable is named "sinfo", which is already supplied in the SLURM batch system package (slurm-llnl). Because both packages are useful on clusters, a Conflicts does not make sense, so renaming seems to be the best option. I CC'ed Gennaro (slurm-llnl maintainer) so he can comment. It broadcasts CPU, memory usage, network load, and information about the top 5 processes of each computer. Sinfo consists of a daemon running on each node to distribute the information and an ncurses frontend to monitor the nodes. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-wnpp-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
