Bug#572545: ITP: usbview2 -- USB device viewer with GTK+
Hello Luis, 2010/4/4 Luis Felipe felip...@gmx.net: The new version '0.4a' of Usbview2 is available under the following link: https://sourceforge.net/projects/usbview2/ Now, I would appreciate if somebody test the SW and give some feedback (change requests are welcome). On the other side, I would like to know the next steps for coming forward. Are not you going to package such software for Debian? So people can provide feedback and change requests (via BTS -- bugs.debian.org) :-) If you need a sponsor to upload the package to the archive you could use http://mentors.debian.net facilities. Let me know if you got any question or if you need help or review packaging. Best wishes, -- Héctor Orón Our Sun unleashes tremendous flares expelling hot gas into the Solar System, which one day will disconnect us. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-wnpp-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Additionally to the functions of USBView, it implements three list views with extende device infos and a new properties dialog. The package looks nice, but it to use /proc/bus/usb, which seems to be deprecated nowadays (it isn't mounted on my system). You are right! The usbfs is marked as deprecated now (I have checked it in the mainline kernel), but on my running system it doesn't (I have here a Lenny kernel). I haven't investigated that much, but I thought I should warn you before you invest too much time in this tool. Well, I will update the tool for supporting the new device nodes too. Also, the package description should be reviewed. It should mention that the tool provides low level (technical details) of the devices. Good, I will add this info too. I will start working on the new support and report it when it's done. It took some time, but now it's done: I have updated Usbview2 for supporting Libusb. In its default configuration, usbfs is disabled, but it can be enabled with ./configure --with-usbfs. Whit usbfs enabled, the user can always switch between usbfs and Libusb (dynamically configurable).
