That is correct, we have been discussing it at the #debian-kernel IRC channel and Maximilian was planning to add this SOF-bin to the firmware-nonfree package. So we could close this ITP (#960788, since in the end no new source package will be introduced) in favor of #949019 and #962134, which could themselves be merged, right? I got the laptop and have bullseye nicely installed and also latest 5.8 kernel, need to see to get a sound now (: alsa seem to have recognised the card with the latest sof binaries, but didn't hear a beep yet.. best greetings, -- maks

With the experimental pulseaudio, latest sof and 5.8 the X1 nicely plays sound, so I have a good test bench. Due to moving around I plan to upload next weekend. so please keep the ITP open and for now it will be a binary upload. thanks! -- maks

I have a new Thinkpad P1 Gen 3 and it's hitting this issue. Seeing this in dmesg: [ 13.865530] sof-audio-pci :00:1f.3: hda codecs found, mask 5 [ 13.865531] sof-audio-pci :00:1f.3: using HDA machine driver skl_hda_dsp_generic now [ 13.865533] sof-audio-pci :00:1f.3: DMICs detected in NHLT tables: 2 [ 13.865829] sof-audio-pci :00:1f.3: firmware: failed to load intel/sof/sof-cml.ri (-2) [ 13.865830] sof-audio-pci :00:1f.3: Direct firmware load for intel/sof/sof-cml.ri failed with error -2 [ 13.865832] sof-audio-pci :00:1f.3: error: request firmware intel/sof/sof-cml.ri failed err: -2 [ 13.865833] sof-audio-pci :00:1f.3: error: failed to load DSP firmware -2 [ 13.866046] sof-audio-pci :00:1f.3: error: sof_probe_work failed err: -2 For now I've worked around it by adding the following to /etc/default/grub: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="snd_hda_intel.dmic_detect=0" So I have audio, but no microphone. But I'd love to see this firmware packaged and I'm happy to help test. Thanks!
