New pages on working on the website

2000-01-23 Thread James A. Treacy
There are new pages about working on the Debian website. They
can be reached at http://www.debian.org/devel/website/
The intention is that they will replace devel/HOWTO_translate
and devel/HOWTO_work.on.website.

I'd appreciate any feedback. If you know of any information
that is missing from the pages, just let me know and I'll
add it.

One change I've made is to start creating READMEs in the
english directories. These are files that explain how to
do translations for particular files or directories.
For an example, check out english/News/README.translations

We found and fixed the problem: the problem was that va changed its
IP address, but nobody apparently told the people running nameservers
for the various delegated parts of the debian.org namespace. As a
result va.debian.org was no longer allowed to transfer zone data
from ns.cistron.nl and thus could no longer lookup entries in
nl.debian.org . The configuration of ns.cistron.nl has just been
updated, so for nl.debian.org this problem should resovle itself
quickly.

Can someome from debian-admin contact all the other people who might
be interested in this IP change to prevent further problems?

Wichert.

Tada..

Just so you know, the rsync job to fix up the copy after 'cp -a' took a
full half hour to complete and had evil rsync processes like this:

root 1367 19.1 16.1 42628 41784 p1 S01:32 5:17 rsync --delete
root 1368 17.1 15.8 41840 40980 p1 S01:32 4:44 rsync --delete
root 1566 37.6 30.9 80608 79780 p1 R01:42 6:30 rsync --delete

A couple of these evil jobs runs every day to copy the web site around :|

So.. you have your own partition now, 6.5G big with 800k inodes - don't
fill it!

The rest of the disk is being reserverd incase we need to move parts of
the archive off the other drive (that would be unbelievably bad)

I will erase the web archive /debian2/web.old perhaps on monday - unless
we need space sooner :>

The next crisis on the list is ftp.d.o being out of space :<

Thanks,
Jason

Don't touch master's web space!!!

2000-01-23 Thread Darren O. Benham
Until further notice.. on this list...

DO NOT run the update and all web updates have been disabled.. The
checked-out archive is being copied to a new disk. Debian admin will
inform us when everything is ok.

I think mostly.. myself.. Joeyh and JT doing the compiling but just
incase.. everybody gets notice. Once the new disk is up and running... all
will be returned to normal...
