international/l10n/scripts/l10n{header,footer}.wml

2002-02-07 Thread Gerfried Fuchs
Hi!

I noticed that in the translation stat there is a strange file
appearing as untranslated:

international/l10n/scripts/l10nfooter

I looked into it and it didn't need any translation at all. So I
looked a little closer and found a l10nheader.wml file also in this
directory.

Which got me puzzled: Why is the one listed and the other one not? I
did try to track it down in the stattrans.pl script but weren't able to
find anything about it.

So I asked Joy in irc and he told me there might be some override
somewhere. And also asked (himself) why those are .wml files if there
is nothing to translate in them.

Denis, could you please take a look at this issue and find out why the
one file is listed and the other one not? I think both shouldn't be
listed...

Joy let's ask me why they are .wml files after all.

 So long,
Alfie

They are now.

Joy let's ask me why they are .wml files after all.

This should be the primary question. If they don't need to be translated,
they shouldn't be called *.wml, otherwise people will think they do.

I agree, but the quick links are getting too far down the page (like
others I prefer the navigation bar to the left).

In Opera, Netscape and Internet Explorer there are frames around the
news items (both the dates and the headlines), while they're not there
in Mozilla and Konqueror. Please get rid of the frames in the other

Re: new front page, take 2.5

2002-02-07 Thread Joey Hess
Josip Rodin wrote:

Much much better. I actually like this one.

Have you thought about dropping the cyan backgrond box with the round
corners? As it is it's boxes inside the cyan box all inside my mozilla
window, which is really a bit complicated when you think about it. That
thing also eats vertical and horizontal space. And IMHO the color
clashes with the rest of the colors on the page (I think the same thing
about the existing cyan box on the current debian web page.)

Hmm, here's a layout idea. What if you took the quick links, news, and
help debian, and arranged them like this:

Quick Links News
-- ---
-- ---
-- ---
-- ---
-- ---
-- ---
-- ---
--
-- Help Debian
-- ---
-- ---
-- ---
-- ---
-- ---

I notice that the News and Quick links boxes are already not as wide
as the rest of the page, so this layout shouldn't affect them much, I
hope. And the links is dying to become a vertical bar, and at the same
time this doesn't cut down on the page width for the larger boxes at the
top of the page.

I think you should make the layout and format of the dates in the news
and upgrade sections more homogenoius. Any reason to have [] around the
dates in one and not the other? Any reason not to use the same font for
both sets of dates?
