Copy of wml compiled for stable available anywhere?

2002-03-21 Thread James A. Treacy
There is a link on http://www.debian.org/devel/website/using_wml
to http://people.debian.org/~joey/webwml/debs/ which is broken.
The intent of this link was to give access to a version of a recent
version of wml compiled for stable. If anyone has a copy of this I'd
love a copy so the link can be fixed.

If I don't hear from anyone in a few days, I'll simply remove the link.

Translators: remove link to wp8 on intro/why_debian.wml

2002-03-21 Thread James A. Treacy
The link to wp8 no longer works so translators should remove it from
intro/why_debian.wml.

Thanks.

Update needed for translations of doc/books.wml

2002-03-21 Thread James A. Treacy
A number of translation of doc/books.wml still have a link to
http://www.linuxpress.com/001002.htm under the book "Debian User's Guide".
This (broken) link should be removed from the page as part of updating the
translation.

Thanks.

I admit, it was hard to find any, but it seems
that some of the pre-1998 browsers did not support
PNG. According to Webmonkey, PNG wasn't supported
by IE 4.5 for the Mac.

I prefer to use PNG over JPG unless the file is
a photo. PNG is well supported:

http://graphicswiz.com/png/pngapbr.html

But what i said is still true. PNG isn't
supported by all browsers. That doesn't keep me
from using it, i was only pointing out a fact.

Next time, i will just keep my mouth shut.

2002-03-21 Thread Luca - De Whiskey's - De Vitis
Hi,
I noticed that only www.*.debian.org distribute favicon.ico.
IMHO it would be nice if it could be available on any Debian site.

Should i file a wishlist bug?

Personally I've restrained myself from converting that particular image to
PNG because the JPEG fuzziness doesn't look all that bad on it.

Uhm, I don't grok that diff... There are word changes right in between
a reformating of a paragraph *eeks* Hardly to spot.

Craig, if you do such things, please do it in two seperate commits,
it's hell of a work to find out what words you actually really changed :((

 Thanks for the attention,

FUD? Sorry, but using of png for non-transparent stuff is fully
encouraged, especially for things where true colors count, like in this
case.

> gif is patented, software patents suck.

Yep, that's right - we use ist still for the navbar images. Maybe we
should switch those to jpg's, too? *wonders*

> jpg is the best alternative.

jpg is crap when it comes to pics in which you need true colors and you
know that (I hope).

If you can't name some browsers that doesn't support png (I am not
talking of transparency at all here) you are just doing FUD.

 So long,
