The language is controlled by your web browser -- you've
probably got it configured to give something other than
English higher priority.

I suppose that you could grab what you need from the security repository
http://security.debian.org/pool/updates/>, but I doubt that this is
the recommended method.

Filesharing Networks

2003-11-28 Thread Phil Peppers

Hi,

why don't you put the ED2k links (hash) for the images on your site in
addition to the other download possibilities. This might take away a lot
of traffic from the mirrors while still offering the security that the
shared file is not a fake.

Cheers Phil

There is a lot of information available on the compromise at Wichert

Deb web links for 3.0r2 go to German page not default language

This is seemed to be the best place to send this

The problem:
The link to release Debian 3.0r2 (woody)
http://www.debian.org/distrib/ftplist
links to a page in German.

This link is on the page

I suspect you want this to link to the default language
which I set to English, and all other links go to pages
in English.

Re: Unofficial List Archives

2003-11-28 Thread Drew Scott Daniels
Well the list archives are back up, but it seems gluck isn't. I see on
http://lists.debian.org that there's a line that says "a lot of these
mailing lists can be browsed as Usenet newsgroups" that links two gmane
and Google Groups.

I still think it'd be nice if "the backup server" could give out this
information. It'd be nice if the line I quoted also said "or via http" and
included http://www.mail-archive.com>.

eschwin.nl will be added to the commercial category of the "Who's using
Debian" list when Debian's remaining services get back online after last
week's compromise.

It wasn't that bad, but I did make a few changes to the wording; when your

Probably you are right. But I think that the contents should also be
checked.
The behaviour of a complex series of programs is very difficult to
predict just proofreading the code.

Probably this could be done for programs, too. Were they on a CVS or a
debian package?

I am almost sure that Joy was talking about proofreading the _scripts_,

You can do a cvs diff -rHEAD $language or similar before your next
update if you think your language has been tampered with, I guess.

What about translations? May we have access in order to proofread the

2003-11-28 Thread Josip Rodin
Hi,

The status is that there is no status. :) Due to dependence on CVS and the
fact it needs to be proofread as well before going back online, we're pretty
much stuck as is until quite a few man-hours are spent.

elmo and I are likely going to restore packages.d.o and cgi.d.o first.
I guess some provisions for the rest of webwml could be pondered after
that's done. Use of CVS pserver is, as always, troubling...

Who's using Debian?

2003-11-28 Thread Joost van Baal
Hi,

Could you please publish this on http://www.debian.org/users/? Thanks!

---

Tilburg University, the Netherlands, http://www.uvt.nl/

In November 2003, it was decided all new servers will run Debian
GNU/Linux, except where vendor support contracts require otherwise.

Currently, more than 10 of the central servers run Debian. We'll likely
have about 20 servers running Debian soon, for services like email, DNS,
DHCP, Usenet News and version control.

We've choosen Debian for it's reliable security update availability,
strong presence on the GNU/Linux server market, because of available
knowledge and experience in the UvT sysadmin group, flexibility of the
OS, no license costs (not even for security updates), and possibility to
run a localy controlled software distribution server.

Bye,

Joost van Baal
