No, actually we want to go under the name of debian-edu in debian
circles. skolelinux is too norwegian (aka local) and we want to
be known under the debian name if possible.

that said, some countries have decided to call debian-edu
"skolelinux" anyway since they like it better. they are free to
do that.

> And, after all (& afaik), the projects name just isn't "Debian-Edu" anymore.

actually it is the other way around: it should be more debian-edu
and less skolelinux, internationally.

Good, thanks. I've got another glitch here:

http://packages.debian.org/changelogs/pool/main/g/gaim-extendedprefs/gaim-extendedprefs_0.4-4/changelog

In the line "* Disable DEB_AUTO_UPDATE_DEBIAN_CONTROL." part of the
underscores are considered to be underlining for UPDATE which is not
correct. Perhaps that regexp (?) should force non-word chars before and
after the to-be-underlined text.

Bug#251218: /devel/people gives recognition for quantity of packages, not quality

2005-05-20 Thread Thijs Kinkhorst
Hello Ben,

> The http://www.debian.org/devel/people page gives maintainers recognition
> for the quantity of packages they maintain, not for their quality.

I don't share your vision here. That specific list does not credit any
maintainer over the other. The maintainers are not ordered on the number
of packages, but just alphabetically. With each maintainer is indeed a
list of packages, but that's a factual report of which software
someone's responsible for, and adds no judgement on who's a better
maintainer. IMHO the page doesn't need to be changed for that.

There's of course the question if this page has any use at all, but that
is a different point.

Package: www.debian.org
severity: wishlist

debian-edu and Skolelinux _afaik_ are names which have equal rights, but
http://www.debian.org/devel/ only mentions the "Debian-Edu Project". This is
confusing and leads to less valuable search results.

I've someone says "go" I can commit the change.

I've allready changed the linked page wiki.debian.net/DebianEdu to reflect
this (and created wiki.debian.net/SkoleLinux).

Regardless of wether one can reproduce the bug or not I would also
prefer that noone closes packages.debian.org related bugs (so soon
at least) since this increases the chance that I overlook them and
since I seem to be the only one really familiar with the code this
normally isn't a good idea...

They indeed seem to have incomplete pages and missing source package

for testing and stable seem to be fine).

On the package page of any package in non-free, the links under
"More Information on " are broken or missing.

Normally, it sais something like this:
> Source Package: aap, Download: [dsc] [aap_1.0.orig.tar.gz] [aap_1.0-1.diff.gz]
> View the Debian changelog
> View the copyright file

For non-free packages, this shows only:
> Source Package: aap, Download:

So most links are missing, and the link to the source package yields
a 404 error. For contrib packages, everything seems to work just fine.

Thanks for the otherwise very useful package pages btw!

Please, try again, as I cannot reproduce this. I'm closing this bug.

I have changed the pdo link accordingly in CVS. It should be fixed after
the next rebuild.

Hiding email addresses isn't the best way to fight with spam.

The source package is called ubit, but the binary packages are called
libubit1 and libubit-dev. You can find source packages via
http://packages.qa.debian.org (you can also enter binary packages, it
will redirect you to the package tracking system of the source package).

I know how to find the packages :-)

What I am pointing out is that the link provided on the WNPP page
is this:

http://packages.debian.org/ubit

Which yields this as a result:

-
Package Search Results

You have searched for packages named ubit in all distributions,
all sections, and all architectures.

Can't find that package.
-

What I am saying, is that script that pulls info for the WNPP page
should be a bit smarter :-)

The links should be constructed so they *actually* lead to the
referenced package.

You're clearly using the wrong search options :-)

As (imho) is clear from the control file listed in the wnpp bug, ubit is a
*source* package.

http://packages.debian.org/unstable/source/ubit

OK. I am not sure how the info for the wnpp pages is pulled, but
it should check if the referenced package is source, binary, or
both (i.e., same name) and consrtuct the appropriate link. In fact,
as I understand it, packages are always maintained as source packages.
So, a binary package that is one of several produced by a particular
source package will never be orphaned alone. This makes me think it
would be better always construct links on the wnpp pages of the form
http://packages.debian.org/src:foo
