Multi-user servers where most users have shell access are a non-issue as far as PHP Safe Mode is concerned. The desire behind Safe Mode is that your users can upload arbitrary PHP scripts, and still don't get shell access to the box. > [...] >> Of course, it is possible to enable Safe Mode as an additional >> layer of defense. Yes, that's a further point for not wasting time supporting Safe Mode. I've been told that Safe Mode is indeed very annoying for users, so it wouldn't be that useful in an ISP environment, even if it were actually secure. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#318475: www.debian.org: $(HOME)/ports/hurd/hurd-install recommends to download upstream sources
Hello, On Thu, Jul 21, 2005 at 11:43:26PM -0500, David Moreno Garza wrote: > > Either an explanation should be given (like specific version > > requirements) or this download recommendation > > (and manual install, see grub) should be replaced by the apropriate > > > > apt-get install grub parted > > Well, this is, AFAIK, since there is no common lilo and parted packages > for Hurd officially in Debian, right? As far as I understand the text, lilo might not be able to boot the Hurd, but since it is not mentioned in the text, I would not talk about lilo at all. For grub and parted, they are needed in the *first* OS, i.e., before installation. Since this text is posted on www.debian.org, chances are good that this is Debian GNU/Linux. And I would be suprised if either grub or parted would not be available there. > I only see one unstable package for hurd-i386 on > http://packages.debian.org/cgi-bin/search_packages.pl?searchon=names&version=all&exact=1&keywords=parted > ...for parted. This is irrelevant, because this would only be relevant post-install, but there parted is no longer a requirement. > Can we close this bug? Well, I think no, because at least the optional use of apt-get should be documented here (it is later after Hurd-installation). Maybe both, apt-get and the original download-site can be mentioned?
