These you should just discard if they do not come from MTAs that you
actually use.

We won't be obfuscating, however we do regularly ban botnets, and will
implement harvester traps in the near future. [None of this will
likely solve the problem completely, though, as messages to the bts
are archived in numerous places and are sent to various mailing lists
which are also publicly subscribeable.]

Bizarre. The messages seem to come from the skolelinux mailing list,
but they have debian-www@lists.debian.org To headers.

I've now switched crosspost support off for that list.

Spambot harvesting mails from bugs

2008-04-07 Thread carbonated beverage
Hi all,

I just submitted a bug report yesterday, and got hammered by a ton of
mail delivery failure notices (about 500+) as spammers used my email
address to spoof the From line. It could be coincidense, but then
again, maybe not.

Are there plans to change the interface to hide the email addresses or
otherwise obfuscate things so it's harder for automated harvesting?

I meant to say that I obviously can't dictate how this should be
implemented (rewrite rule is just one possibility) or what exactly the
"yearless" URL should be (/dsa/ would seem natural, but maybe you
want something else), but I wanted to suggest something concrete just to
make the bug report clear.

Thanks for this tip! I tried to google a bit but couldn't come up with
a good set of search terms.

Please use something like CD/vendors/index.wml

webwml po update-po and --previous switch

2008-04-07 Thread Gerfried Fuchs
Hi!

Since a long while, even since last stable release (etch) gettext now
supports the --previous switch which would bring in the string from
which a fuzzy translation is derived from so one can much more easier
spot what's the difference. This leads to entries in the po files like
this:

#v+
#. The ddp_pkg_loc variable contains
#. http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/ddp/manuals/trunk/manuals.sgml/[package]/";>[package]
#: ../../english/doc/manuals.defs:146
#, fuzzy
#| msgid ""
#| "Use CVS to download the SGML source text for ."
msgid ""
"Use SVN to download the SGML source text for ."
msgstr ""
"Verwenden Sie CVS, um den SGML-Quelltext für herunterzuladen."
#v-

The line with #| are new here and contain the string that is in sync
with the msgstr. A translator has only to spot the difference between
the two msgids and apply that to the msgstr, making it much more easier
and not overlook things like spacing changes or typo fixes and wonder
what's going on.

Does anyone have any object to apply this short patch to
webwml/english/po/Makefile:

#v+
--- Makefile26 Nov 2007 12:16:27 - 1.58
+++ Makefile7 Apr 2008 14:04:07 -
@@ -138,7 +138,7 @@
 update-po: $(POTFILES)
for d in $(DOMAINS); do \
  if [ ! -e $$d.$(LANGUAGE).po ]; then cp $(ENGLISHDIR)/po/$$d.pot
$$d.$(LANGUAGE).po; fi; \
- msgmerge -F -q $$d.$(LANGUAGE).po $(ENGLISHDIR)/po/$$d.pot -o
$$d.$(LANGUAGE).po.new && mv $$d.$(LANGUAGE).po.new $$d.$(LANGUAGE).po; \
+ msgmerge --previous -F -q $$d.$(LANGUAGE).po $(ENGLISHDIR)/po/$$d.pot
-o $$d.$(LANGUAGE).po.new && mv $$d.$(LANGUAGE).po.new $$d.$(LANGUAGE).po; \
done

 install-mo: $(MOFILES)
#v-

The only change is adding the --previous switch to the msgmerge, no
other changes hidden.

Most po translation tools propably still don't support this new
addition to the po files, though they usually ignore them only. When
updating the entry the additional comment section should get removed
too, so from that area it might require a bit more carefullness from the
translators - but with added benefit, of course.

So, if there aren't any objections I'm going to commit that propably
next week if I don't forget so it doesn't stick in my local copy only.

 So long,
Rhonda

I agree that this would be nice, as a workaround you could
use: http://security-tracker.debian.net/tracker/DSA-

There appears to be no way to link to a DSA page without knowing in
which year the DSA was published. Could you please set up a rewrite
rule such that http://security.debian.org/dsa/1234-1 links to the right
place? This is valuable for people who want to create bookmarklets or
wiki links to DSA notices.

I would tag this as "Severity: wishlist" if it wasn't security-related;
the usability and convenience standards should be higher for security
facilities, and thus I feel a "Severity: minor" (or higher) is
warranted.

Thanks for caring.

Re: subscriptions to debian wiki pages

2008-04-07 Thread Jon Dowland
This probably explains it. The wiki sticks a "To" header on the
subscription mailings, claiming "debian-www@lists.debian.org". This does
not seem like a good idea.

   1. If the reason is 'I wanted a new key' then the new key must be strictly
more secure than the old key and 'reasonably' connected where 'reasonably' is
left up to the debian-maintainers keyring administrator and varies depending on
the circumstances of the Debian Maintainer in question.
   1. Anything else is at the debian-maintainers keyring administrator's
discretion and, in general, arbitrary key replacements without good cause will
be rejected.
