Online Vendors List Entry

2008-06-13 Thread David Latham
Hi List,

I have an oscommerce online store where I offer Debian. I have tried
filling out the online form to have my store submitted for consideration
to be on the list. That was about a week ago now and it is still not
there. I have not heard from anyone if there was a problem with my
submission.

The only thing that was not working too well was that when I gave the
URL to the page about Debian on my store, the submission form reported
that the link was broken. I think that might have been because my links
have ? marks in them. Does anyone have any advice how I might get this
issue sorted out.

There are two domains pointing to the same site. I only tried to submit
one. I thought to be listed on the New Zealand page because that is
where I live. The URL to DEBIAN is:

http://www.thelinuxcdstore.co.nz/index.php?cPath=31

And of course simply http://www.thelinuxcdstore.co.nz for the whole
site.

Thanks heaps,

Regards
David Latham

Hmmm... it seems that I'm either to sleepy or to stupid to add proper
symlink generation to the Makefile. Could you please add them?

Yours sincerely,

Frans suggested the template change already so that it won't affect old
weekly items. May I suggest just adding a symlink from News/project/ to
News/weekly/ and use the /project/ URL for the new issues, then? It
won't break back issues, it won't break the feeds because it still lives
in the same place, and there is no rush as in to get external links
updated?

We already have stuff like that around, e.g. the
releases/{stable,testing} things are just symlinks to the current
codenames, and /intl/ is a symlink to /international/

 So long,
Rhonda

Who's using Debian?

2008-06-13 Thread AdvertSolutions Tim Ridgway

1. AdvertSolutions.com, United Kingdom
2. Commercial
3. http://www.advertsolutions.com
4. Our main web server runs Debian, with Apache2 and php5 on top. This
is now happily serving automatic banner adverts for hundreds of online
shopping carts, and over 4000 images are served each day. All very reliably!
There is no other sensible operating system choice for a web server.
Debian is very stable, simple to update and it has a fantastic user base
on the internet so that any problems encountered are simple to fix.
Setup was a breeze!

This script seems to be working fine now for a while and only in a few
cases do I need to change the output by hand before committing. Allthough
less than it was, it's still a cumbersome process, leading to it being
skipped when the security officer is pressed on time like happened last
week where a number of DSA's were not in reasonable time on the website.

I propose to run the script automatically on emails coming in through the
d-s-a mailinglist that are DSA--1 mails. There are exceptional cases
where it goes wrong, but it could be better to correct those after the
fact than to have all DSA's waiting on someone finding the time.

One issue I can think of is the archive not being updated at time of
message arrival. Perhaps the script can pause for a significant amount of
time and then continue processing? Or can we maybe from the message itself
predict accurately what a working archive url will be?

Could the web team look into this?

cheers,
Thijs

When the magazine, "The Australian Women's Weekly" started coming out
once a month there wasn't a name change. It was probably because a name
change would be unfamiliar to its readers.
