Bug#442083: packages.d.o: 442083: remaining i18n issues

2008-11-11 Thread Paul Wise
The remaining i18n issues with packages.d.o seem to be:

The list of languages down the bottom does not point to the DDTP project
to encourage people to translate package descriptions.

The URLs in the list of "Similar packages" on the right sidebar does not
include the current language for the page. For example:

http://packages.debian.org/pt/sid/gcc
links to http://packages.debian.org/gcc-4.3
instead of http://packages.debian.org/pt/gcc-4.3

This can be fixed by the following naive patch:

diff --git a/templates/html/show.tmpl b/templates/html/show.tmpl

Hi,
I like http://packages.debian.org/unstable/newpkg_main a lot, but it's
hard to find out what's new since the last time I checked the page.
What would be great would be a date-ordered list (newest first), with
release dates as seperators.
Something like

New at 2004-02-05:
o aolserver-nssha1 -- AOLserver module: performs SHA1 hashes

New at 2004-02-04:
o adduser-ng -- Add and remove users and groups
o adduser-ng-doc -- Documentation for AddUser-NG users

--nk

-- System Information:
Debian Release: testing/unstable
  APT prefers unstable
APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental')
Architecture: i386 (i686)
Kernel: Linux 2.6.2-bk3
Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C

--- End Message ---
--- Begin Message ---
As you can see here, the date-based newpkg page has been implemented:

I have a package named "and". However, http://packages.debian.org/and
returns "Malformed query! (Or something strange happened to this

Maybe the script is passing "and" unquoted to an sql query?
("http://packages.d.o./not"; and "or" returns the same error message)

I've added a link to adobe's instruction.
I still consider manual installation completely insane. It reminds me
slackware and MSDOS.

Broken ref at http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/system-administrator/ch-sysadmin-time.html

2008-11-11 Thread Nelson A. de Oliveira
Hi!

There is a broken reference at
http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/system-administrator/ch-sysadmin-time.html,
section "16.4.1 Setting time at system boot", at the end:

"Remember to set execute permission to /etc/init.d/rdate. If You are
wondering what the number S19 above means, read chapter ???." (see the
???)

(and maybe the "You" should be all lowercase?)

Thank you!

Best regards,
Nelson

Minor typo fixes do not need a vote (spelling corrections, case
corrections, etc), as long as the meaning is not changed. Some times
punctuation makes a difference (placing a comma can change the
meaning), but that certainly does not seem to be the case here. Please
go ahead, and thanks for the cleanup work.

Re: Debian Wiki FlashPlayer page

2008-11-11 Thread Jon Dowland
I'd just like to add my support to the notion of documenting that you
can install flash manually (if not the specific steps themselves). The
flash plugin package, even when available, was a horrid nightmare that
routinely broke things. It executed too much code as root in postinst
context and sat indefinitely if it could not connect to the webserver to
download an update. In this case, I think it is *more* harmful than the
perceived problems with doing things manually.

Bug#501954: thoroughly disagree

2008-11-11 Thread Jon Dowland
a) I thoroughly disagree with the proposal to use mediawiki for this
purpose. The proposer should perhaps suggest some rationale, at
least, but one argument against it is how difficult it would be to
get the data out of mediawiki again.

b) if we did consider a software move in the future, I would want to put
forward ikiwiki as a candidate. But I don't think we are at that
   point yet.

c) Please, let's not repeat history's mistakes and do a content
migration to another software solution until we've sorted licensing
   out.

Here is a atch for this.
By the way, there is no japanese version anymore on the website, because
there is no package for the japanese translation (while the translation
exists on the SVN of DDP).
