Bug#509546: www.debian.org: not suitable consultants list

2008-12-22 Thread Hideki Yamane (Debian-JP)

Hi webmasters,

I saw http://www.debian.org/consultants/index.en.html#Japan, and was very
very surprised, because there is the name "nihonsoft".

They are slashdotted (in slashdot.jp) some years ago... why?
Because they made their own Linux distribution by just replacing copyright
holders name with using sed or something...OH NO.

And they would licensed their distribution under "GGPL", they say
"Greater Good Public License", most of the people think it violate GPL
(or other licenses), but they don't think so.
...it's cruel, but not just a joke. It's true.

They renamed their license as CGPL, http://cgpl.org/, but just change
 its name.

They don't know about what is Free Software, what is copyright (or copyleft)
and license. They don't have ANY trust from people who cares about Linux and
lives in Japan. (If you don't believe, just ask any Japanese FLOSS developers!)

and others, http://www.fasp.tv/ stops their job (says in their page).

http://www.codwiz.com/ says only "meaningless" thing, and I'm working for
Debian 5 or 6 years (make and maintain packages, translate, join community
events), but didn't heared about them... it's so strange thing ;-)

Strongly, I proposed to remove them from this list.
And next time you will add consultants in Japan on that page,
please ask us - Japanese Debian Developer/Maintainer/Contributors.

 Thanks.

Those lists are hosted bu US, Debian-JP, about 10 years and more,
so moving cost is larger than staying there.

#Please consider that we are something like Ubuntu's LoCo.

And lists hosted by Debian are not spam-proof list.

If Japanese users want to subscribe lists, they need to read
English pages which they don't like (haha ;)

Actually, debian.org has debian-japanese mailing list[1], and
translation update requests
as well as users' questions about Japanese are posted there in
English. Should it be
divided into debian-user-japanese and debian-l10n-japanese?

[1] http://lists.debian.org/debian-japanese/

In fact, most of Japanese users use Debian JP's debian-users list (and
debian-{devel,doc,www} lists[2]) in Japanese. Only some developers,
translators, and
non-native Japanese users uses debian-japanese. I think this condition makes
Japanese users less interested in English lists on debian.org and is
an "obstacle"... :-(

What is the obstacle to use a list hosted by Debian ?

That may be easier for both users / new contributors / i18n coordination

It's because the translated file has been put under 2008/20081227 while
it should be under 2007/20071227 (compare with

BTW, I find no debian-l10n-japanese, and the translation header doesn't
