We use Debian since 2004-2005. We have 30 server currently running

The services we provide are:
  Academic System
 + PostgreSQL database
 + Apache2 + PHP5
  DNS
 + Bind9
  Monitoring
 + Munin, nagios3, mtrg
  Authentication
 + openldap
  File Sharing
 + openldap + samba
  Virtual Machine
 + Xen
  Mirror and other services
 + rsync, apache2, git
  Webserver
 + Apache2 + php5 + PostgreSQL + MYSQL + Drupal 6

Hi - sorry that the search went offline, it happened when I moved servers
and I never fixed it. But this should have been on a Debian server in the
first place...

The setup consists of a cron job to mirror .jigdo files (which could be
omitted if we set this up on cdimage) and a PHP file. Is PHP OK for Debian
machines? IIRC perl was preferred...

It doesn't build a word index, so it needs more CPU than needed, but in
practice this wasn't a problem on the old server.

Cheers,
  Richard

I suppose that http://www.debian.org/support should now mention the Shapado-

(I suggest to put it under a dedicated section rather than under "Web sites",
being it a new, particular means of support.)

Being a solutions provider/consulting company, we use and support
three Linux Distributions (a) Debian, (b) CentOS/RHEL, (c) openSUSE.
We use Debian because it can scale from a very small installation
(embedded systems) to a large scale server. Even though there is no
centralized administration tool like openSUSE's yast or CentOS/RHEL's
setup program, the CLI/curses dialogs are fairly comprehensive to get
a base installation going. The configuration files are well
documented with comments and examples for further refinements. And
lastly because of it's vast repository of packages.

Thanks and regards,

rm debain-installer/index.wml debain-installer/Makefile
cvs delete debain-installer/index.wml debain-installer/Makefile
cvs add debian-installer
cvs add debian-installer/Makefile debian-installer/index.wml

Who's using Debian?

2010-10-06 Thread Richard Hartmann
Hi all.

name: Globalways AG, Germany
type: commercial
site: http://www.globalways.net
blurb: We are using Debian on a few hundred, mostly virtual, machines.
We chose Debian for its stability, easy of use, reliability and, in our
opinion, technical superiority over all other OSes.

Keep up the good work & thanks :)
