Ahh --- I see. Sorry for the noise, I didn't know about this.

Yes, in this case one needs to be careful after release.

I got your point: there is no problem on testing and unstable.

But in that moment, when Stretch is getting stable, we have the same
situation again, where pdfs might be crippled:
the machine www- master, which builds the release-notes, is running
Jessie (at least for some months, until DSA has upgraded all machines
to Stretch), and when the release-notes trunk was not fixed before, the
pdfs are crippled again.

Thanks for your work !

As I wrote in my last email, this is not the case in unstable or testing, as
dvipdfmx has been fixed, as well as the font squeeze between gs fonts and TeX
Live fonts has been resolved.

To repeat, there is no problem on Stretch, at least for the moment. Before
release it would be a good idea to throw an eye onto one of the PDFs, though.

My alternative theory is that some piece of possibly-malware is setting
their phone browser's home page to some random misconfigured web site
that happens to be running nginx on Debian. I have no actual proof of
this though.

We've had quite a few of these to owner@bugs as well; if they give any
specifics at all then they're consistent with your analysis above. I've
been replying with a form response for some time asking for more
details, but not one of them has yet supplied any.

Julien's commit fixed the problem for the jessie release-notes, so I close
all the relevant bugs with this mail.

Beside this, the same bug has to be fixed in the trunk branch of
release-notes as well, to make sure the problem does not re-occur after
the release of Stretch.
To keep track of this, and as a reminder, I have filed a new bugreport,

Bug#815689: www.debian.org: Show recent project news (not only announcements + security updates) on the homepage

2016-02-23 Thread Laura Arjona Reina
Package: www.debian.org
Severity: normal

Dear all,
The www.debian.org homepage shows an RSS feed called "News" that in fact
displays the last announcements, some of them from many many months ago.
Newcomers and those curious about Debian may get the wrong impression of the
actual level of activity that is going on in the project.

On the other side of the page, there are several items in the menu: we have
"News", "Project News", "Events", "The Debian blog", "Planet" and "identi.ca"
but they are not in the same section.

My proposal for reorganization is:

1.- rename the current "News" RSS feed to "Announcements" (if agreed, we maybe
should rename the subsequent pages too...)

2.- Before "Announcements", create a new section "News", with link to the last
issue of DPN (or its short RSS), plus a line with "Read more news about Debian
in the Debian blog (link), our feed in the pump.io network (link) or the Debian
planet (link).

3.- Then, group all the news items in the "News" menu:
"Announcements", "Project News", "Events", "The Debian blog", "Planet" and
"identi.ca" .

(Not sure if including "Developer News" or not). I believe we have no
translations for that.

(Not sure if keeping the images for planet and for identi.ca in the menus. The
identi.ca one is outdated. I could try to create a new one).

Another approach for "2" (or in addition to it) could be to display the
identi.ca feed (using the script that Paul Wise wrote in
https://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/publicity/publicity.git/tree/scripts/fetch-
identica.py ). But we have no translations for the identi.ca feed, that content
would be in English only.

I will close all related bugs for jessie release-notes, since the problem
is fixed now.
To keep track of fixing this in the trunk branch of release-notes, and as
a reminder to ensure, this gets right for Stretch, I will file a new bugreport
accordingly.

I cannot push to the repo, seems I have no permissions.
I appreciate if anybody could apply the changes, and hopefully we get an

I see. It looks like they have installed an webserver (nginx) that
defaults to an index.html page saying "Welcome to nginx on Debian",
although that can be any Debian child distro, as Ubuntu, etc. Some of
this child distro may be configured for phones.

The one person who did give screenshots had the "Welcome to nginx on
Debian" page open in a browser (not sure what OS, maybe Android) and
then some screenshots of the Debian nginx bug reports page, presumably
they clicked the bug reports link on the welcome page. Unfortunately
the screenshots didn't contain any URL and the person stopped
responding. No-one else has given any screenshots.

Can you share the screen shots? Are we talking here about android,
i-phone or what? It is indeed an app? Or it is just the browser pointing
to debian when open?

We have had a number of other people with the same problem, so I think
there is something more going on here.

https://lists.debian.org/debian-www/2016/01/msg6.html
https://lists.debian.org/debian-www/2015/12/msg00024.html

Plus other people who sent to ad...@db.debian.org instead of debian-www.

I've tried to help them off-list and gotten as far as getting
screenshots but wasn't able to help them fix the issue.

Dear Ricardo,

debian-www@lists.debian.org list is for www.debian.org web pages.
If you need help with Debian you need to check the user lists, for
example debian-u...@lists.debian.org in English or
debian-user-span...@lists.debian.org for Spanish. A complete overview of
Debian mailing lists is available at https://lists.debian.org/

When you contact a Debian mailing list for help you must provide some
information, such as the computer type, OS version, program version and
what exactly is wrong and what are your expectation. For example:

"I run Debian testing, kernel version 3.16.0-4-amd64 on my amd64 desktop
PC and ls (from coreutils) version 8.23 does the listing in wrong
alphabetic order. I expect:

# ls m n ñ o
m n ñ o

but I get

# ls m n ñ o
m n o ñ

instead." And a simple answer will be to check your locale settings.

And since you had the patience to read so far, I must tell you that
unfortunately we do not provide Debian for phones, so what you call "the
Debian app" is not from Debian. You must check the manufacture help
pages how you can remove an app from your phone, if it is an app you
talk about. If it is the default webpage of your browser, you need to
check the help of that particular programm/app.

Kind regards,
 Ionel
