'who's using debian?' entry

2010-10-18 Thread Nigel Barker
   1. Name of organization (in the form of division,
organization, country). An example is: AI Lab, Massachusetts Institute
of Technology, USA

Hiroshima International School, Japan

   2. Organization type (educational, non-profit, commercial, government)

Educational

   3. (optional) Home page link

http://www.hiroshima-is.ac.jp/

   4. A paragraph or two describing how your organization uses Debian.
Try to include details such as the number of workstations/servers, the
software they run, and why you chose Debian over the competition.

Our school runs Debian-Edu / Skolelinux. A central server houses the
user accounts of all members of the school. We have several
thin-client servers facilitating the re-use of older hardware. Then
there are regular workstation installs, including on a class set of
netbooks. In total we have one computer for every two students, and
one for every staff member. 90% of these computers are running
Debian-Edu.
We chose Debian-Edu for its pre-configuration of all services, and
focus on software for schools. Debian allows us to spend our IT budget
on hardware alone.

cafe press shop

2009-08-11 Thread nigel barker
Dear webmaster,

I would once again like to point out that you are advertising a cafe press
shop on [1], that donates 10% of sales to Debian. The shop [2] uses
nothing other than debian logos. Cafe press shops are free to run. This
person is making money for minimal effort.

I also have a cafe press shop at [3]. I will donate 100% of my profits to
SPI, once my sales reach the max amount allowed for a cheque (to not waste
resources). I have sold over 40 debian items so far, the most popular
being one I designed myself [4]

I am doing this because I am not a developer, but I want to support
debian. I use debian-edu every day at work, and all my personal computers
run debian. I am active on the debian-edu list.

Of course you don't have to list my shop. Anyway I will donate 100% to
SPI. However, please remove the sponger[2] from the page. Instead you
could advise people to search for "debian" at Cafe Press.

Cheers,
nigel

www language and cookies

2006-05-31 Thread nigel barker
I find that every debian page I visit appears in Japanese until I click
English at the bottom of the page. Unfortunately some pages don't have
that option, and others remain partially in Japanese after I change
language (eg wiki pages). changing mirror doesn't help, either.

I realise that I am getting Japanese because I am located in Japan, but
can't a cookie be set for my preferred langauge? That is what happens with
Google. First visit - google japan. Every subsequent visit unless I clear
cookies - google.com.

Or if I select the US mirror, give me US english.

This is quite a recent problem. In the past I have always had debian pages
in english by default.

I'm sorry if this appears as a complaint. Thanks for the great work.
