Hi David,

Thanks for your comments. I have folded them into a new patch attached.

My turn to apologize for the delay.

Thanks,
Imran

Hi Imran,

Thanks for your interest in improving the website, and sorry for the
delay in getting back to you.

Agreed.

Some remark about the form:
- please, do not use long lines [0];
- please, do not link on a meaningless “here”;
and about the content:
- SHA512 digest is also provided;
- example should be updated to the most used arch (i.e. amd64).

Please, do not hesitate to add to
the loop when you provide an updated patch (they are very helpful, not
only to proofread, but also to help provide a more accurate wording if
needed).

Regards

David

Bug#381555: Patch for image digest links

Hey there Team debian-www,

I have attached a patch for this (or rather the whole .wml files).

As it would seem excessive to have a separate digest for every
architecture (and indeed, the particular architecture involved was not
mentioned) I have instead opted to include a short paragraph
explaining in a general way how to get at the image digests.

Thanks,
Imran

This method of installing Debian requires a functioning Internet connection
during installation. Compared to other methods you end up downloading
less data as the process will be tailored to your requirements. Ethernet and
wireless connections are supported. Internal ISDN cards are unfortunately
not supported.
There are four options for installs over the network:

NOTE: MD5, SHA1 and SHA256 digests can be found here under the relevant architecture/image directory.
For example, digests for i386/iso-cd can be found here.

Small CDs

The following are image files which are up to 180 MB in size,
making them suitable for writing to small CD-R(W) media, 80 mm/3.1"
in diameter. Choose your processor architecture below.

Smaller CDs
The following are image files which are up to 40 MB in size,
making them suitable for writing to business card-shaped CDs (available
in differing sizes, e.g. 58×75 mm/2.3×3" in diameter):

For details, please see: Network install
from a minimal CD

Tiny CDs, USB sticks, etc.

You can download a couple of image files of small size, suitable for
USB Sticks and similar devices, write them to the media,
and then start the installation by booting from that.

There is some diversity in the support for installing from various
very small images between the architectures.

For details, please refer to the
installation manual for
your architecture, especially the chapter
Obtaining System Installation Media.

Here are the links to
the available image files (look at the MANIFEST file for information):

Network boot

You set up a TFTP and a DHCP (or BOOTP, or RARP) server which will
serve the installation media to machines on your local network.
If your client machine's BIOS supports it, you can then boot the Debian
installation system from the network (using PXE and TFTP), and proceed
with installing the rest of Debian from the network.

Not all machines support booting from the network. Because of the
additional work required, this method for installing Debian is not
recommended for novice users.

For details, please refer to the
installation manual for
your architecture, especially the chapter
Preparing Files for TFTP Net Booting.
Here are the links to the image files (look at the MANIFEST file for
information):

A network install or netinst CD is a single CD which enables
you to install the entire operating system. This single CD contains
just the minimal amount of software to start the installation and
fetch the remaining packages over the Internet.

What's better for me — the minimal bootable CD-ROM or the
full CDs? It depends, but we think that in many cases the
minimal CD image is better — above all, you only download the packages
that you selected for installation on your machine, which saves both
time and bandwidth. On the other hand, the full CDs are more suitable
when installing on more than one machine, or on machines without a
free Internet connection.

What types of network connections are supported
during installation?
The network install assumes that you have a connection to the
Internet. Various different ways are supported for this, like
analogue PPP dial-up,
