Bug#441887: www.debian.org: APT-HOWTO is out of date

2010-10-30 Thread anatoly techtonik
Could you, please, provide links to replacements from the headers of
corresponding sections? The documentation is still available from the
web, and its (Obsolete Documentation) confuses people without
providing any hints where to look for updated information.

For example, the HOW-TO its the top link for me when I search build
debian package from source. Unlike other manuals this one is concise
and goes straight to the point. Maybe migrate some pages to Wiki?

Bug#441887: www.debian.org: APT-HOWTO is out of date

2008-12-01 Thread Gustavo Noronha Silva
Hello there!

Any of those work for me. I would suggest not doing a lot of work to
sync apt-howto from svn or anything like that, since it is now
unmaintained and has better replacements.

Thanks for taking the time to work on this!

One idea is to change CVS contents so the Makefile does:
   * Check out SVN content.
   * Build it instead of trying to change CVS data.

That sounds evil. In this case I think I would prefer further manual
syncs or directly checking out the svn by a webmaster.

We can't use the files from the binary package?

Yes, we can. (Obama's style is not intended :-)

But :

1/ apt-howto package has been removed from the archiven, because the
author considers the Debian reference as a better replacment (see
#493787), so only the etch package can be used.

2/ that *were* binary packages, since there is one binary per
language.

Should we :
1/ syncrhonize the last version of apt-howto, on the website, and mark
it as deprecated ?

2/ delete it from the website ?

Feedback appreciated.

2007-09-11 Thread Tina Isaksen
Package: www.debian.org
Severity: normal

The APT-HOWTO (http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/apt-howto/) contain some
outdated information. Among
other things the sample sources.list contain the discontinued non-US
repository. It should be an exact
online copy of the apt-howto-en package.

The copy in the DDP CVS seems indeed to be outdated.

Should that be updated or should we use the package?
