It looks like somebody fixed it, I just downloaded the package with no

Bug#540925: www.debian.org: web interface for bug needs specific error if package

2009-08-10 Thread Stéphane Blondon
Package: www.debian.org
Severity: minor

When a user is on the page http://www.debian.org/Bugs/, he can fill
the package field with a name that does not match a package (in case
of a mispell, ...). For example, a search for package
'this_package_does_not_exist' goes to:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?package=this_package_does_not_exist

Of course, there is an error message but it's little bit confusing:
''There is no maintainer for this_package_does_not_exist. Please do
not report new bugs against this package.

There is no record of the this_package_does_not_exist package, and no
bugs have been filed against it.

The first sentence fits more orphan package, the second one is right.
To my mind, an error like 'this_package_does_not_exist package not
found. Please do not report new bugs against this package.' would be
better.

If there is no maintainer for a package, this means that the package
may not exist. I'll tweak the verbiage of this to indicate that the
package no longer exists (or never existed in the first place).

There is no record of the this_package_does_not_exist package, and no
bugs have been filed against it.

The first sentence fits more orphan package, the second one is
 right.

Both of them are correct, actually. Orphaned packages are maintained
by the QA team. I'll tweak the verbiage of this eventually.

Hi,

I've fixed the script and also symlinked search_packages to
search_packages.pl. Thanks.

Error in package search CGI scripts.

2001-11-15 Thread Steve Kemp

Hi,

Just a quick mail to report an error in the package search script.
[Some of these URL's may have wrapped badly, I apologise in advance
 if this is the case].

  I started at:

http://www.debian.org/distrib/packages

Filled in the form for Search Package Directories, by typing
 kernel, and clicking search.

This gave me 20 hits, at the following URL:

http://packages.debian.org/cgi-bin/search_packages.pl?keywords=kernelsearchon=namessubword=1version=stablerelease=all

At the bottom of the page I see :

Responses 1-20 shown, out of total of 32

The URL that is then given is wrong, it is:

http://packages.debian.org/cgi-bin/search_packages?keywords=kernelsearchon=namesversion=stablerelease=allstart=21subword=1

Notice how the search_packages script which is called is
 missing the .pl extension?
I manually added .pl, and was taken to the correct 12
 results.

I hope this is helpful to you..
