Looking at 
https://www.debian.org/MailingLists/index.en.html#subunsub
it has to be -request@l.d.o

And furthermore:

'subscribe' has to be in the subject!
Not more, and not in the body, as mentioned on the Arabic page.

Also, the mentioned Arabeyes project page seems dead...
