Our organization uses Debian because we need a OS. And we like foss.
That's why we choose gnu/linux at 2002 (we've tested linux several years
before: Mandrake, RedHat... in dual boot). Since 2002 our office
computers use only Debian, removing MS Windows from them. Some years
later we start to administer our own servers, and we choose Debian /
Ispconfig to do it.
And why Debian and nor other linux distros? Because of the same reason
we choose Drupal to develope webs over other choices, it's community
ruling system. We like FOSS and community projects :-)

Sorry for this letter but I need help very badly.
I had a very happy and interesting childhood before I got in a car crash   
at the age of
13, as a result of which I had a bad compressive spine  fracture and my  
spinal cord was

injured as well.
Right after the crash my legs became numb. I have come through five   
serious operations,
three of which were performed on my spine and due to  those I am able to  
attend to myself.
 But unfortunately the injury is so  serious that in order to restore my  
legs movement I
need another  operation, not on the spine but on the spinal cord itself.

this operation is very expensive and I hope that with the help of my site

Hi! I would like to know how I can help you sending new .deb packages. I  
apt-got the libgnutella-gift/gift-gnutella but cant download and install  
an newer version (unstable too)...
then I made an RPM from the source code and, with alien, a deb package...  
In my computer all is good... All computers that have libgnutella (=  
0.0.8) will need update this plugin because the plugin expires after one  
year (to prevent the network of older gnutella plugins).


I would like very much to contribute with Debian.

 Josip, you don't need to remove SGML entities from the file.

And I didn't remove SGML entities from the file -- from the portions of the
file that get displayed on public web pages. Putting HTML entities into
email addresses intended for internal use is not needed, so I removed those,
and only those.

I replaced many 8bit characters by SGML entities in
Mirrors.masterlist file.  Though I wrote Please don't
use local character sets, it doesn't mean that please
don't use local characters.  Here, I wanted to mean,
for example, ISO-8859-1, ISO-8859-5, EUC-JP, and so on
by local character sets and accented alphabets, greeks,
cyrillics, kanji, and so on by local characters.
The reason not to use local character sets is to avoid
encoding conflict between translated files (written in,
for example, ISO-2022-JP) and the local character set
(for example, ISO-8859-1) which cannot co-exist in one file.
Sorry for using confusing words.

There is a way to use local characters without using
local character sets -- it is SGML entity (including
#; where  means UTF-8 codepoint) because SGML
entity itself is written within ASCII and doesn't conflict
against translated HTML files.

Josip, you don't need to remove SGML entities from the
file.  On the other hand, since local characters (like
accented characters) can be used in the file, other local
characters (for example, greeks, cyrillics, kanji) can be
used in the file.

 http://packages.debian.org/php4 -- there you are.  It's even php4
version 4.2.2.  It's in unstable.  No, we won't release it for stable
earlier than sarge becomes stable for it has to go through the testing
period before.  That's the way debian works.

for such questions.  debian-user would have been a better place.

Hah! This person doesn't know how to write Subject: in e-mail, doesn't know
that HTML isn't useful in e-mail, and hasn't read the the /distrib/ page
which says the Installation manual contains this information.

Obviously, he is pointing out a real flaw in our system. But I wonder if the
flaw is of technical or social nature... or maybe I'm just getting too old
for this.

The server is down, yes, the notion of restricted is about who can get an
account there.

The good news is that the server has been relocated and we are in the
process of repairing it to bring it back as ftp.debian.org and
archive.debian.org.

My computer just hangs on trying to make a connection to port 80 (never
completes TCP connection).  I went investigating, and noticed on your
