new debian user
Can anyone help Been running linux mandrake and decided to try debian. When using mandrake I setserial to /dev/ttyS2 com3 to irq 10 and connection to internet was successful. On setting up debian i changed the serial of /dev/ttyS2 to irq 10 and the modemn was found Can wvdial as root but not as user tried adduser to dialout but still having problems. I have been going round in circles for a few days. Any ideals on how to connect up. Another thing is the sound. When running mandrake i used sndconfig to set up my sound. In debian my card is found es1869 but I cant get it to work. In windows my sound card is found on irq 5 and I used this in mandrake to work. Anyone know how to get my sound working. Is there an equivilent sndconfig for debian. What I see of debian so far is great but trying to set up the system to my requirements is proving more difficult that I thought. Thanks in advance bill

New translator (also new Debian user) asks help
Trying to translate to Dutch. Unable to see my work locally, because not possible to compile wml to html. Dangerous : errors only seen online, after commit (when it's too late) 1. Problem with wml compiling (Y2K bug ?) cd webwml/dutch make wml -q -D etc ePerl:Error; perl runtime error (interpreter rc=2 ---Contents of STDERR channel:--- Can't handle date (32, 58, 22, 09, 1, 19100) at /tmp/wml.4909.tm1 line 1169 Year 19100 ? Maybe put 19 in front of current year (100) i.s.o adding 1900 ? Am I the only with this problem ? 2. Problem with compiling buttons (dutch/Pics/...) Seems he needs gimp 1.1 and gimp-nofree 1.1 (and Gimp.pm) These are unstable releases. Indeed necessary to install ? Thanks, Stefaan

There is a newer version in stable (or stable-updates) that fixes that problem. 2. Problem with compiling buttons (dutch/Pics/...) Since Dutch uses iso-8859-1 and I finally upgraded to gimp1.1, I have created the images for you. If you are unhappy with the text in any of the images, just send me what you want and I'll create new ones. It's trivial once everything is set up (thanks Craig).
