Might be a bug in xmame.

Can you generate a full backtrace for me?

1) # apt-get install xlibmesa3-dbg gdb
2) $ ulimit -c unlimited
3) $ LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/X11R6/lib/debug xmame
(add any arguments and do anything you need to reproduce the crash)
4) $ gdb $(which xmame) core
5) (gdb) bt full
6) mail the output of the above to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

If you have access to an unstripped xmame executable, that would help
even more.

Very odd, I don't think anything that affected the protocol level, or
the server's per-client data structures, changed in 4.2.1-4.

Do you think the problem is a resource leak, or are you really running

Very odd, I don't think anything that affected the protocol level, or
the server's per-client data structures, changed in 4.2.1-4.

Do you think the problem is a resource leak, or are you really running
tons and tons of clients?

Sorry, I meant "not out" (yet). Too busy coming up with fun metaphors

Can you please install xserver-xfree86-dbg and generate a backtrace with
debugging symbols?

1) # apt-get install gdb xserver-xfree86-dbg
2) answer the debconf questions and make sure XFree86-debug is the
   default X server
3) log in as a normal user
4) $ ulimit -c unlimited
5) $ startx
6) reproduce crash
7) $ gdb /usr/bin/X11/XFree86-dbg core
8) (gdb) bt full
9) cut-n-paste the output from gdb into a mail message to
   [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Thank you!

Bug#170948: Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server

2002-11-27 Thread Lukas Hejtmanek
Package: xserver-xfree86
Version: 4.2.1-4
Distribution: sid/unstable

I sometimes see this message
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: Maximum number of clients reached

With version 4.2.1-3 I did not. I have today's update of all packages.

To aviod that message it helped to restart galeon with java_vm. It reduced 416
opened sockets to 180. However java_vm opens just about 2 sockets to xserver.
More I saw that message even if I was not running galeon with java_vm.

Yeah, those are all generated in the package postinst. Hmm.

Can you please install xserver-xfree86-dbg and generate a backtrace with
debugging symbols?

1) # apt-get install gdb xserver-xfree86-dbg
2) answer the debconf questions and make sure XFree86-debug is the
   default X server
3) log in as a normal user
4) $ ulimit -c unlimited
5) $ startx
6) reproduce crash
7) $ gdb /usr/bin/X11/XFree86-dbg core
8) (gdb) bt full
9) cut-n-paste the output from gdb into a mail message to
   [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Thank you!

Bug#170948: Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server

2002-11-27 Thread Lukas Hejtmanek
Package: xserver-xfree86
Version: 4.2.1-4
Distribution: sid/unstable

I sometimes see this message
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: Maximum number of clients reached

With version 4.2.1-3 I did not. I have today's update of all packages.

To aviod that message it helped to restart galeon with java_vm. It reduced 416
opened sockets to 180. However java_vm opens just about 2 sockets to xserver.
More I saw that message even if I was not running galeon with java_vm.

This is the problem, not the chip. You need to use depth 16 or a lower
virtual resolution for DRI. Beware that I seem to remember the DRI in
4.2.1 not working too well on Radeon 7500s, you may want to try

deb http://people.debian.org/~daenzer/dri-trunk/./

instead.
