Re: Roll your own X Packages problem with static libraries
Hi Branden Thanks for your answer. > This is more a question for one of XFree86 upstream's mailing lists. > > Anyway, I believe the Imake variable in question is "ForceNormalLib", or > something similar to that. That was the ticket. I was a little impatient and already posted to the xfree mailinglist. Marc gave me the same answer and it worked :) (http://www.mail-archive.com/devel@xfree86.org/msg04023.html) debian/rules install seems to work now. However debian/rules install-server failes to install because of missing chooser. I tried to apply patches 900_debian_config.diff 905_debian_xdm.diff to relocate the chooser but then wraphelp.c is beeing missed while building. (I didn't apply any other packages.). So if you have a suggestion (without digging to much) i would apreciate that. But right now i am to tiered... Thanks Tim

Bug#202128: DONATION FOR THE LORD.
From: Mrs Serena Jones PLEASE ENDEAVOUR TO USED IT FOR THE CHILDREN OF GOD. I am the above named person from Kuwait. I am married to Dr. Harry Jones who worked with Kuwait embassy in Ivory Co ast for nine years before he died in the year 2000. We were married for eleven years without a child. He died a fter a brief illness that lasted for only four days. Before his death we were both born again Christia ns.Since his death I decided not to re- marry or get a child outside my matrimonial home which the Bi ble is against. When my late husband was alive he deposited the sum of$8.6Million (Eight Million six hundred thousand U.S. D ollars) with one finance/security company in Amsterderm Hollan d. Presently, this money is still with the Security Company. Recently, my Doctor told me that I would not last for the next three months due to cancer problem. Though what disturbs me most i s my stroke sickness. Having known my condition I decided to donate this fund to church or better still a christian individ ual that will utilize this money the way I am going to instruc t here in. I want a church that will use this fund to fund chu rches, orphanages and widows propagating the word of God and t o ensure that the house of God is maintained. The Bible made us to understand that Blessed is the hand that giveth. I took this decision because I don?t have any child that wil l inherit this money and my husband relatives are not Christi ans and I don?t want my husband?s hard earned money to be misu sed by unbelievers. I don?t want a situation where this money will be used in an ungodly manner. Hence the reason for taking this bold decision. I am not afraid of death hence I know whe re I am going. I know that I am going to be in the bosom of th e Lord. Exodus 14 VS 14 says that the lord will fight my case and I shall hold my peace. I don?t need any telephone communi cation in this regard because of my health because of the pres ence of my husband?s relatives around me always. I don?t want them to know about this development. With God all things are p ossible. As soon as I receive your reply I shall give you the contact of the Finance/Security Company in Amsterderm Holland . I will also issue you a letter of authority that will prove you as the original- beneficiary of this fund. I want you and the church to always pray for me because the lord is my shephard. My happiness is that I lived a life of a worthy Christian. Whoe ver that wants to serve the Lord must serve him in spirit and truth. Please always be prayerful all through your life. Any d elay in your reply will give me room in sourcing for a chuch or christian individual for this same purpose. Please assure me that you will act accordingly as I stated herein. Hoping to hearing from you. Bug#220448: xserver-xfree86: Some fonts simply don't show up, adobe courier for example
I think I will post my problems to debian-user or someplace else shortly. Maybe I'll put it in konqueror's bugzilla since obviously whatever the problem the net result is that konqueror is failing to display the page. (And reporting mozilla bugs is futile.) Incidentally, a number of programs, mostly gtk programs, seem to be generating this warning these days. I wonder if it could be related to my font problems. Bug#179647: xserver-xfree86: more info(strace, gdb)
Package: xserver-xfree86 Version: 4.2.1-14 Severity: normal Followup-For: Bug #179647 I'm experiencing this bug, too. It started when I upgraded my kernel from 2.4.18 to 2.4.20 and didn't stop when upgrading to 2.4.21-rc8 or 2.4.23-pre7(which I'm currently running). I reproduced the bug with both r128 and ati drivers. Using the fbdev-driver circumvents the bug, as it seems (used it for 3 days, no hang). The bug most often occurred when using kmail. During the hang the xserver freezes completely(no mouse, no NumLock), with the /usr/X11R6/bin/X process using 90%+ cpu. If there is any additional info I shall provide, just ask. Logging in via ssh I gathered following information(using xserver- xfree86-dbg): strace: === # strace -p6850 Process 6850 attached - interrupt to quit ioctl(5, 0x6444, 0) = -1 EBUSY (Device or resource busy) --- SIGALRM (Alarm clock) @ 0 (0) --- sigreturn() = ? Bug#219551: Unicode xterms should do some kind of substitution for missing characters

Possibly I am. But if other programs can do it, at least for some subset of characters, there's no purely technical reason why xterm cannot. Yes, I suppose it may be - I was just throwing ideas around. I take it that you had some reasoning which led you to believe that the idea is bad, in which case it would be appreciated if you could explain why you think so rather than just vaguely suggesting so. | Even if it isn't, it might be a good idea if the fonts in question | troubled themselves to define a glyph for the codepoint. | | I trust you've filed a bug to that effect. AFAIK most of the Free fonts packaged in Debian have the particular glyph that this bug report mentioned. The one I'm using is from msttcorefonts, so I can't imagine anyone is likely to be able to do anything about a Debian bug files on it. Cheers, Cameron.

Re: Building XFree 4.3
Hi everyone I'm tring to build Xfree 4.3 on my debian system because I need a patch to the siliconmotion driver that has only been committed in 4.3.99. I'm trying two separate paths, and I'm stuck in either. If you send us a diff, we can include it in the next release. Why do you need this patch? It's a bug affecting support for an external monitor. You can find more info (and the patch itself) at http://bugs.xfree86.org/show_bug.cgi?id=727. It could be very handy if you could backport it ;-) First I'm trying to build a deb binary package from xfree86_4.3.0-0pre1v4 source package. After $dpkg-source -x xfree86_4.3.0-0pre1v4.dsc $cd xfree86_4.3.0 trying to extract sources with $debian/rules source.make make: *** No rule to make target `source.make'. Stop. How do I extract the sources to apply the siliconmotion patch? Try 'debian/rules setup', not source.make; this changed a couple of releases ago. ok thanks,I'm kinda new of debian source packages ;-) but now i get # debian/rules setup dh_testdir /bin/bash: line 1: up-scripts: command not found ^^^ is this ok? make: [setup] Error 127 (ignored) /usr/bin/make -f debian/rules stampdir/unpack stampdir/patch make[1]: Entering directory `xxx/xfree86-4.3.0' test -d stampdir || mkdir stampdir [snip] and if i try # debian/rules build i get gcc -m32 -c -g -O2 -g -ansi -pedantic -Wall -Wpointer-arith -Wstrict-prototypes -Wmissing-prototypes -Wmissing-declarations -Wredundant-decls -Wnested-externs -Wundef -I/usr/include/freetype2 -I../../../../debian/local/exports/include -I../.. -I../../exports/include -Dlinux -D__i386__ -D_POSIX_C_SOURCE=199309L -D_POSIX_SOURCE -D_XOPEN_SOURCE -D_BSD_SOURCE -D_SVID_SOURCE -D_GNU_SOURCE -DFUNCPROTO=15 -DNARROWPROTO -DXTHREADS -D_REENTRANT -DXUSE_MTSAFE_API -DFREETYPE2 -fPIC xftcfg.c In file included from xftcfg.c:28: xftint.h:29:35: fontconfig/fontconfig.h: No such file or directory In file included from XftFreetype.h:28, from xftint.h:31, from xftcfg.c:28: Any idea? evdev and Emulate3Buttons
i have been bug hunting in X in connection with [EMAIL PROTECTED] event interface (available with 2.6 kernel) and his X driver to that, which is in experimental. the problem was that the "button depress" event was deferred untill the "button release" event occured. as a consequence, everything which had to to with dragging the mouse (marking text, moving windows...) did not work. i followed the signal through the layers and the deferral happend in the Emulate3Buttons section, where the events are generated. i think that was in ./xc/programs/Xserver/hw/xfree86/common/xf86Xinput.c the problem does not occure if the Emulate3Buttons optionis not specified in the config file. everything works as expected. it would be good if this was documented somewhere, and if someone else could varify that this works as described above. Zephaniah and me are both not sure why this is not triggered with normal mice drivers, too.
