As promised on IRC, here is my addition to the X FAQ which describes the
problem and the steps to configure X to have correct DPI value.

Another wish from me is: please create some symlinks in the doc
directories from FAQ.gz to ../xserver-xfree86/FAQ.gz and
../xserver-common/FAQ.gz . Reason: xfree86-common sounds to unnatural
for documentation to be found easiy, don't ask me why. I would NOT find
this FAQ if I would not already know that it exists.

download and compile a xft new version, It
works correctly. this morning, I update SID, the version I had compiled
work no longer, system tips libxft.so.2 error!
so I reinstall debian package libxft2, then the bug occurs!
   I am using the newest Debian SID, kernel 2.4.18bf.

On 9 October, submitter claimed that the then-current upstream version
of Xft (2.1.2) resolved this problem.  The version then in Debian
unstable was Xft 2.1.1.

By 15 October, Xft 2.1.2 was in Debian unstable, and the submitter was
asked to confirm the continued existence of this bug.

Sure.I don't know if this is relevant, but the first card is is
picked up by the PM2 framebuffer driver (the second is not, because the
driver doesn't support multiple cards--I'm trying to copy the multiple
card support from pm3fb but I don't really know what I'm doing.

Looks like this worked right.  $OWNERS got set to kdm, xdm.

I'm not sure this worked as expected.  db_metaget exited with a 0 exit
status, but $CHOICES was set to .

Hmm, the body of this loop should probably be entered if $OWNERS is
non-null.  In fact I don't reference $CHOICES within it, so I was
probably being overly cautious.  I see this happened in revision 506.

Okay, I think I have found the bug.  I will fix this and look for
similar bad logic in the other maintainer scripts.

Yep. It probably doesn't happen on x86, since the int10 stuff
initializes the card with the onboard bios. Using a x86 emulator in X to

Ho. definitively some registers who are bad. It has been a long time
since i have looked at the pm2 specs (kind of 98ish i think) though.
Maybe you could get hand of the free TI-pm2 specs and look for yourself ?

You would dump all the possible registers, and see which one is
different. Enabling debugging in the glint driver would also do. You can
safely run no-accel on these for the tests, as this is definitively not
an accel issue, but a video out/ramdac one.

 white lines.  The rest of the screen is filled with horizontal
 flickering black and whitish lines.  The left edge of the swirl is on
 the right hand side of the screen.  It appears 5 times.  The debian
 only appears as de, though there are about 5 d's and 3 or 4 e's,
 overlapping.  The clips themselves look perfect, but nothing else does.

Any color problem ?
