Sun Type 6 USB
Dear X-Team, I still live vith a quite expensive Sun Type 6 USB Keyboard (US-Layout) having many dead keys. According to my Internet investigation keycodes are hardwirded at compiletime of the X-Server and unfortunately there is no official Support for such keyboard Layouts in version 4.2.x except for some obscure patch. but I have read about a promise it will be integrated in the 4.3 version. Are you aware of such an implementation so it is worth waiting for your release or give it a try and compile the original sources myself ? -- Cheers Thomas

Bug#229850: xserver-xfree86: Nokia 446Xpro properly detected but sync incorrect
Package: xserver-xfree86 Version: 4.2.1-15 Severity: important I just installed Debian fresh with debian-installer beta 2 followed apt-get dist-upgrade to sid. While configuration my X server, my monitor was properly detected as a Nokia 446Xpro, but the horizontal and vertical sync information were incorrect. My XF86Config-4 file as generated contained the following: Section "Monitor" Identifier "Nokia 446XproNOK" HorizSync 28-50 VertRefresh 43-75 Option "DPMS" EndSection I had to replace HorizSync and VertRefresh with these values: HorizSync30.0 - 107.0 VertRefresh 50.0 - 150.0 which I took from my XF86Config file automatically generated by anaconda in Fedora Core 1. Please let me know if there is additional information that I need to supply. I'm not sure how monitor detection is performed or where this information comes from, so I don't know whether this is a software bug in some detection code or whether it is just a question of a datafile being out of date. I hope I haven't misclassified the "Severity" of this bug. I classified it as "important" because it prevents use of this combination of monitor and video card from working with any kind of reasonable refresh rate/resolution and has such a simple fix. reportbug has kindly attached all relevant hardware information. -- Package-specific info: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc 3D Rage Pro AGP 1X/2X (rev 5c) 01:00.0 Class 0300: 1002:4742 (rev 5c) # XF86Config-4 (XFree86 X Window System server configuration file) # # This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using # values from the debconf database. # # Edit this file with caution, and see the XF86Config-4 manual page. # (Type "man XF86Config-4" at the shell prompt.) # # This file is automatically updated on xserver-xfree86 package upgrades *only* # if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xfree86 # package. # # If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated # again, run the following commands as root: # # cp /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 /etc/X11/XF86Config-4.custom # md5sum /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 > /var/lib/xfree86/XF86Config-4.md5sum # dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 Section "ServerFlags" DontZap EndSection Section "Files" FontPath"unix/:7100"# local font server # if the local font server has problems, we can fall back on these FontPath"/usr/lib/X11/fonts/Type1" FontPath"/usr/lib/X11/fonts/CID" FontPath"/usr/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo" FontPath"/usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc" FontPath"/usr/lib/X11/fonts/cyrillic" FontPath"/usr/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi" FontPath"/usr/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi" EndSection Section "Module" Load"GLcore" Load"bitmap" Load"dbe" Load"ddc" Load"dri" Load"extmod" Load"freetype" Load"glx" Load"int10" Load"record" Load"speedo" Load"type1" Load"vbe" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Generic Keyboard" Driver "keyboard" Option "CoreKeyboard" Option "XkbRules" "xfree86" Option "XkbModel" "pc104" Option "XkbLayout" "us" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Configured Mouse" Driver "mouse" Option "CorePointer" Option "Device""/dev/psaux" Option "Protocol" "MouseManPlusPS/2" Option "Emulate3Buttons" "true" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Generic Mouse" Driver "mouse" Option "SendCoreEvents""true" Option "Device""/dev/input/mice" Option "Protocol" "ImPS/2" Option "Emulate3Buttons" "true" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "ATI Technologies, Inc. 3D Rage Pro AGP [264GT Pro GB]" Driver "ati" EndSection Section "Monitor" Identifier "Nokia 446XproNOK" HorizSync30.0 - 107.0 VertRefresh 50.0 - 150.0 # HorizSync 28-50 # VertRefresh 43-75 Option "DPMS" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Default Screen" Device "ATI Technologies, Inc. 3D Rage Pro AGP [264GT Pro GB]" Monitor "Nokia 446XproNOK" DefaultDepth24 SubSection "Display" Depth 1 Modes "1152x864" "1024x768" "8

You can build the one in the DRI source tree against any kernel. download the cvs tree and switch to this directory: xc/programs/Xserver/hw/xfree86/os-support/linux/drm/kernel then run: make -f Makefile.linux or make -f Makefile.linux LINUXDIR=/path/to/kernel/src depending on where your kernel source is located. make sure you have run at least make dep on the kernel source. I try also the proposed default (i.e. blank) but it doesn't work too. I try to change the default only to see if with that value the server work, but it doesn't and so I report this to you. > . > Users of non-PowerPC machines with only one video card should leave this > entry blank. > > (Emphasis added.) > > To convert hex to decimal in the shell, use the printf(1) command. > > E.g.: > > $ lspci > 00:1e.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corp. 82801BA/CA/DB/EB PCI Bridge (rev 02) > $ printf '%d\n' 0x1e > 30 See the above question: 01:05.0 correspond to PCI:01:05:00 or am I missing something? > The XF86Config-4 file you attached was truncated, and there was no X > server log file attached to your report. The problem is that the machine where I found the bug, has the mail server that doesn't work, so I have to copy and paste the content of the report bug but as you report me the content were partially corrupted. Now I attach the original file created by the bugreport. > Please mail this bug report <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> with the > complete information described in the XF86Config(7) manual page.
