I removed the libxft-dev package: /usr/X11R6/include/X11/Xft/Xft.h is still here and belong to no package (dpkg -S). I deleted this file and re-installed libxft-dev, everything worked fine. If you move (or remove) /usr/X11R6/include/X11/Xft/Xft1.h and /usr/X11R6/include/X11/Xft/Xft to /tmp/, you can do apt-get -f install to finally upgrade this package. Hope that help someone for waiting. -- Raphaël SurcouF Bordet [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#237641: xterm: Seg faults in ratpoison
Package: xterm Version: 4.3.0-5 Severity: important I use ratpoison version ratpoison 1.0.1-cvs. Starting xterm gives a segmentation fault. I also have icewm installed, and starting xterm inside icewm works fine. Ratpoison gives the entire screen to the window, and that might be messing up with xterm. Running xterm -geometry 1024x768 inside icewm does not cause any problems. But the same command inside ratpoison segfaults as well. My icewm version is 1.0.9.2-7. Bug#234556: xlibs: many clients get BadLength error from X_ChangeProperty request
Hi, I was pretty busy last two weeks... In order to get rid of all these problem of ghost bugs caused by optimizations, I recompiled a version of the X server without any -Ox and with -g. As expected the out of range error vanished in the air, but not the bug. After few tries, I think I know now the real cause of the error (but I might be wrong once again!). It seems that the server X is sending a packet through the socket and getting something different when receiving it afterward. In what I have experimented, the X server is sending a packet of size 864 and getting something of size 32 on the other side. The funny thing is that this fact was previously hidden by the ghost bug caused by the misinterpretation of the code by gdb. (Remark: I should have tried to see if the same ghost bug appears on plain x86 architecture, but I've been too lazy to try it). You have reasign the bug to liquidwar. What can I do with this bug now? I can't close it. Can I reasign it to libxext-dev again? There's two ways to view this bug: 1) As a duplicate of #233645, #234772, and #236132, which were already merged, fixed, and had been closed for over a week at the time #236428 was filed. 2) As a report that liquidwar FTBFSed and needed to be rebuilt. If the former, then yes, it can be reassigned to me. If the latter, then once liquidwar has been rebuilt and uploaded (which I think has already happened), then it can be closed. The code flaw was absolutely xfree86's fault, I agree with that; the question is whether it's a good idea to repurpose this bug as a FTBFS report against liquidwar under the circumstances. The point is kind of academic now as the bug can be closed either way, so I'm closing it. -- G. Branden Robinson|Optimists believe we live in the Debian GNU/Linux |best of all possible worlds. Incorrect. This bug does not affect everyone. If it *did* affect everyone, it would be grave, not serious. Furthermore the package is not violating policy, and as you are not package maintainer, your opinion as to its suitability for release is irrelevant. Reviewing the definitions of the bug severities[1]: critical makes unrelated software on the system (or the whole system) break, or causes serious data loss, or introduces a security hole on systems where you install the package. grave makes the package in question unusable or mostly so, or causes data loss, or introduces a security hole allowing access to the accounts of users who use the package. serious is a severe violation of Debian policy (that is, it violates a must or required directive), or, in the package maintainer's opinion, makes the package unsuitable for release. important a bug which has a major effect on the usability of a package, without rendering it completely unusable to everyone. normal the default value, applicable to most bugs. minor a problem which doesn't affect the package's usefulness, and is presumably trivial to fix. wishlist for any feature request, and also for any bugs that are very difficult to fix due to major design considerations. Nevertheless it's my intention to fix it ASAP, once it is determined where the actual bug lies.[2] If this bug is shown to affect stock woody users, that will make the package unsuitable for release in my opinion -- I solicit the opinions of my fellow Debian X Strike Force team members on this point. Work around by install this package using dpkg directly. I reported this problem -- which does not happen in every upgrade scenario -- to the debian-dpkg and debian-devel lists[1]. No one has yet replied. I am either using dpkg-divert wrong, in which case I require instruction from someone who knows how to use it better, or there is a bug in dpkg-divert. Another workaround is simply to move or delete /usr/X11R6/include/X11/Xft/Xft.h, getting it out of the way. [1] http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2004/debian-devel-200403/msg00651.html -- G. No, xlibs 4.3.0 or above also meets the requirements. 4.3.1 (e.g.) is greater than 4.1.0, so it meets the dependency, and not less than 4.3.0, so it doesn't conflict. -- Chris Waters | Pneumonoultra-osis is too long [EMAIL PROTECTED] | microscopicsilico-to fit into a single or [EMAIL PROTECTED] | volcaniconi- standalone haiku
